Outstanding! Is it white paper (shirogami) #1 or #2? Shirogami is my favorite san mai kitchen knife steel. Will you be offering these razors for sale anytime soon? Happy New Year, cheers.
Hi Michael, To be honest i have not taken my mind to that place of when and how much, i really don't want to but i must and will soon, i am just concentrating on making something half decent. It is Shirogami 1. Cheers
From stunning restoration works to then taking your exemplary workmanship to making your own razors with such eye catching results is a privilege to witness. Well done Joseph, here’s wishing you a healthy and happy New Year.
wow stunning blade mate . very different indeed . love the detail through the blade . how long before your retailing them my friend . i bet you been though some steel before perfecting the right style and treatment 😵💫😵💫 but you have to break a few eggs to make a good omelette 🤪
Hi Paul, I didn't think they are worthy of sale at the moment. That is my first quality razor. Let us see how the chips fall :) Thanks and Happy new year too.
You are the best Master Restorer you have beautiful razors beautiful stones and you know how to shave with speed class elegance with any razor, any grind and blade height you are the TOP
Hi Joseph. Nice little stubtail. I need to draw upon your vast knowledge and exposure to vintage Sheffield razors. I have a beautiful early stubtail that I need help identifying. It's an 8/8 wedge with a spine thickness just shy of 1/4". The shape is similar to your Rutherford but with more swoop to the spine and blade. The maker's mark is either: G.R , Q.R , G.B , Q.B...over "BEST.STEEL". I'm guessing G.R for George Rex which would fit stylistically its likely production period prior to 1820. It still has its original nearly straight (just a hint of swoop) cow horn scales. Below is my best attempt at recreating the primitive stamp. Any help would be greatly appreciated...as I've been trying unsuccessfully to ID this blade for almost a decade now! Thanks for all your great content! G.R BEST.STEEL
Could it be G.P for George Palmer No.1 st. James's? He used the G.R Crown. I read that his razors were actually made by John & William Ragg. Food food for thought.
@@EdgeDynamicsEnglishRazors Thanks... I'll have to look into that. I was hoping that perhaps you had seen that stamp before and recognized it. Thanks again.
I use glycerin and water on my Arks as well. Acts like oil but without the mess! the last 50 strokes per bevel, I use dish soap and water with light pressure. A trick my father taught me 40-some-odd years ago. Leaves a very crisp edge...and cleans the stone at the same time.
Hi Joseph. That John Elliot is real beautiful and i guess you should try it sometime. About the Kamisori i must say it is a great razor that requires a bit more adaptation wich is not a problem for you. Liked the performance once more my friend. It is a pleasure watch your skill. Thank you so much for posting. Stay safe.👍
I have a few Kamisori's but I've never been able to get a good shave from one. Mine feel dangerous as hell so I muted the points but I have too many other straights go bother revisiting them.
Come on Joseph, take us on that razor making journey! Great restoration as always, doing those superb craftsmen of yester year proud. Well done indeed.
Look forward to seeing what you come up with. The annealing is the key to a good razor. See if you can get "Metallurgy of Steel for Bladesmiths and Others who Heat Treat and Forge Steel" by John D. Verhoeven as it's got all sorts of info you'll need on your journey.
Hello Joseph, looking for forward to some work of you. I know it will be high standard like al your restorations. You do good 👍,maybe one day i will own a razor then from you.
Lovely tiny razor Joseph. Anyway both performed great. Good cream as well. Tobs produce fantastic creams at a very affordable price. Another jolly good show my friend. Look always to see you. Take care and stay sharp.👍
making razors wow . forging steel or using flat bar already done mate . i can imagine forging steel would need a pretty big workshop for the hammers and such . plus some pretty laid back next door neighbours 🤣🤣🤣
@@EdgeDynamicsEnglishRazors oooo yes i have 2 forged modem razors and i love them one has very interesting scales indeed . i really look forward to seeing your work my friend . have you found a steel that suites your needs . they don’t make it like they used to
Great skill to shave with that little blade. How fiddly was that? Making your own razors sounds challenging for sure, not to say pretty expensive too. Are you planning only wedges or will you have a bash at framebacks too? Best of luck, T
Hi Trunker, It was easier than anticipated, I haven't measured it but it is defiantly under 5/8ths. Making razors is expensive but how can you put a price on destiny :) I have many ideas wedges mainly and maybe faux frambacks . Many thanks.
Joseph is a razor master. It is always a pleasure to see the shaves you perform. By the way Musgo Black is a top notch cream. Have a great week my friend.
@@Martins-Shaves123 Thanks Martin, Jnat honing is a spiritual experience for me. If the mountain has a spirit then do does a piece of it :) The older the razor the better in my books. Thanks for the compliments.. Have a great week. Cheers.
5:36 I still find it funny that you always do the left side in one stroke. Old habits I suppose. I like that John Heiffer, it deserves a new set of scales.
I push the pin true with my drill machine but don't let it run. But the pin for tapping in the drill machine and push it true. The scales don't brake like that.

Excellent video thanks for unloading. Whats the diamond thing you used at 7.00 minutes?
Hi RM, It is a small (fine) diamond card. I cannot recall the make but these types have a short life span. Cheers
@@EdgeDynamicsEnglishRazors but what does it do though? What's it used for?
