John Bergsma is an underrated apologist. People know Trent horn Jimmy akin Scott Hahn Patrick Madrid and Tim staples etc but Bergsma is up there too
He’s up there with Dr Hahn and Brant Pitre, imho. I think these 3 theologians are THE Bible scholars of our day.

The Catholic Church can never become corrupt; it remains always pure in its teaching of the authentic doctrine of Christ However its ministers including bishops and popes can become corrupt - in two ways:.either they live immoral lives or they fall from the pure doctrine solemnly defined by the Church and become heretics, and therefore are no longer members of the Mystical Body of Christ., members of Christ. There have been and always will be Catholics in the world, that is those who are strictly faithful to the dogmas of the Church and sincerely endeavor to live holy and spotless lives in imitation of Christ. At present the Church is composed of a remnant of such people, which unfortunately does not include the man who presently is seated in the Chair of Peter. because he has made himself a heretic and has fallen from his office. "If there were to be found only a handful of (orthodox) Catholics in the whole world, they would be the Church." - St. Athanasius, at the time of the Arian heresy crisis when only 1 - 2% of the bishops remained orthodox, ie., Catholic.
I believe that we are already in the same situation today.
To put it simply....The Catholic Church is both Divine and human ...now because of this human is vulnerable to err...but the Church is stll divine that's why it's still here after 2000 plus years.

Jesus did not "found an organization." Church simply means a group or assembly of people called out for a specific purpose. The "church" are people, not an organization.
Where does the Bible say a church is just a group of people?
Where does the bible say it's an organization??? The very word ekklesia (church)... Ekklesia is a Greek word defined as “a called-out assembly or congregation.” It doesn't even have to be religious in nature, it could be a political body as well. It's just an assembly or group of people for a certain task.

The corruption started when Catholics believed Mary ascended into Heaven and that she was born without original sin. When you worship a woman as a pagan god, you begin to realize the faith you follow isn't that of Hebrew origin but of the Roman pagans of ancient Italy.

F. She sits upon “seven mountains” (verse 9).

The Papal system represents the great whore of Revelation 17. Let’s check the facts:
A. She is guilty of blasphemy (verse 3).
The Bible defines blasphemy as man claiming to:
First- Forgive sins (Luke 5:21). The papacy claims the power to forgive sins. Here is a section from a Catholic catechism: “Does the Priest truly forgive the sins, or does he only declare that they are remitted? The Priest does really and truly forgive the sins in virtue of the power given to him by Christ.” Joseph Deharbe, S.J., A Complete Catechism of the Catholic Religion (New York: Schwartz, Kirwin & Fauss, 1924), p. 279.
Second- Claiming to be God (John 10:33). The papacy also claims that the pope is equal with God. Pope Leo XIII said, “We [the popes] hold upon this earth the place of God Almighty.” Christopher Marcellus, Oration in the Fifth Lateran Council, Session IV (1512), manuscript SC, Vol. 32, col. 761 (Latin).
Here is another statement about the pope: “Thou art another God on earth.” Pope Leo XIII, Encyclical Letter “The Reunion of Christendom,” dated June 20, 1894, trans. in The Great Encyclical letters of Pope Leo XIII (New York: Benziger, 1903), p. 30.
B. She is dressed in purple and scarlet (verse 4).
Scarlet is the color of cardinals’ robes and the pope often wears the royal color of purple.
C. She is called Babylon the great the Mother (verse 5) &
D. She has harlot daughters who also are fallen (verse 5).
The Catholic Church is the mother church whose daughters protested and thus began to be called “Protestants” but later followed her. Notice this quote from Father James A. O’Brien: “That observance [of Sunday instead of Saturday] remains as a reminder of the Mother Church from which the non-Catholic sects broke away.” The Faith of Millions (Huntington, IN: Our Sunday Visitor, Inc., 1974), p. 401.
E. The papacy persecuted and martyred the saints (verse 6).
Historians estimate that, in the Dark Ages more than 50,000,000 Martyrs perished for their faith (Halley’s Bible Handbook, 1965 edition, page 726).
F. She sits upon “seven mountains” (verse 9).
Geographically Rome sits over seven hills. “The original city of Romulus was built upon Palatine Hill (Latin: Mons Palatinus). The other hills are the Capitoline, Quirinal, Viminal, Esquiline, Caelian, and Aventine” - Encyclopedia Britannica.
G. The papacy ruled over the “kings of the earth” (verse 18).
History shows, that During the Dark Ages, the Roman Catholic Church was a world Empire.

Protestant response. Where was this gentleman a pastor? Who ordained him? How long was he a pastor? Why did he break his ordination vows? What seminary did he graduate from? For him to hold the opinions he did as a pastor shows a stunning amount of ignorance of church history and certainly doesn’t reflect historic Protestantism. He is spouting the typical apologetics of Roman Catholicism. Protestants view the church fathers as an authority to be respected.

This guy is being presented in a rather triumphalistic way by a Roman Catholic apologist as a sort of spokesperson for all “former Evangelical pastors”. His background information should be provided in detail. I shouldn’t have to look up for example why he broke his ordination vows (if he was ever ordained at all).
