If you cut blue, edict, and vet that's 13 cards, so here's a crazy replacement package. 4 Llanowar Dead, 4 Graveborn Muse, 3 Festering Goblin, 3 Organ Grinder, 1 Twisted Abomination. (Or a few less and smother, skeletal scrying, more recover effects, etc.) 10-13 zombies would give you a draw engine off Muse, and Organ Grinder is borderline a combo piece, in the same way you said Treetop Village is. And cards like Festering Goblin would just gum up the works, draw off Muse, and preserve you. Single Twisted 'bom is the backup wincon if your opponent sides in lifegain.
A detail which ocurred to me while watching: 24:30, he maybe could have played the wish for the Xantid Swarm so the opponent wouldnt take it with the duress. Idk if it would change anything tho :D
Ive been meaning to make a video about this deck since I first saw it. Its super spicy so its great to finally see some gameplay of it. nice video as always. Theres a card that lets you tutor for 3 copies of a creature in play (pack hunt) it costs 4 mana so probably too expensive but would allow you to cure play a cutter and then win.
Seems like a 1 of at most, but interesting to consider. I took Gerard's 75, and after playing some matches I already had some thoughts about how to maybe improve it which I share at the end.
Neat idea! I built it and I really like the d intent. Also, i cant believe after buying boxes of judgement back in the day, i never knew about false cure lol
Intent is not a bad card, it's just that this deck with this specific configuration cannot support it, and we saw how many times it was rotting in my hand throughout these matches. The fact that you also have Therapy (and you often WANT to be casting Therapy) means that your very few creatures are already very taxed to be sacrificed. You could add some 10-ish creatures and make intent viable, though.
Seeing that a small community of players of actual MTG still exists gives me hope for this game after hasbro did everything possible in their power to destroy it ground 0. Great video man!
Thank you, and welcome to the format! There's DOZENS OF US!!! In all seriousness, I have quit MtG for the very same reasons you are mentioning, and found that Premodern is everything I have always loved about the game with none of the garbage that it's gone through in the past 5+ years.
Oh shit: I’d just been taking a look a various lists for this and was considering putting something together as a bit of silly fun. But now here is Fran to somehow make it Tier One and consequently singlehandedly twist the meta against it snd ruin my fun! ;)
@@fpawluszmtgif you cut the blue and put veteran + deed in, I bet you can get it a lot more stable mana and the doomsday piles will go a long way towards consistency.
upon reviewing the decks construction, is that really the plan? a 5 card combo? lol feels like its fundamentally missing another free spell life gain piece. is there any way to makeup some of the lifegain slots with things like swords to plowshares? fiery justice? forsaken wastes to cut the number of free spells in half? etc.
Dreams also helps enable things, which is why I was surprised there were not that many copies. I gave my thoughts at the end of the video on how I think we can improve the deck
It´s a nice idea, may be its needs some new iterations to refine it, the mana base it could be awkard but i didnt see you strugling to much with it. If you are looking for fun and uncommon decks checkout for the mono B infest/living end. I believe that this deck has better performance.
As I stated at the end, I agree. Tons of improvements to make for this deck, and I think that there's some potential for it to be competitive once those things are addressed.
Hmm, is it correct to sac VetEx to Cabal Therapy when you’re tapped out (Match 1 Game 1)? Could you wait one more turn to attempt sac it? If it does get countered, you still have 4-5 open mana and denied the opponent the additional lands until the following turn.
I am planning to set up either casting FoF or Wall + Intent for the following turn, so even though I am giving him mana for his next turn I am also using my mana on the current turn, so I think it's reasonable to go for it now and I wouldn't say it's "better" to not do it. He can also just draw a land and then I get the worse of both worlds anyway, right?@@ChadZeluff
wait wait doesn't false cure make them lose twice the amount they gain? 3 reverent silence is 18 gain and 36 lose...so that won't be enough. he will still have 2 hps
Example: at 20 life, gain 1 life (21), False Cure triggers and you lose 2 life for each 1 that was gained. 1 was gained, so -2. 21-2=19. Net result to life total is identical to, “if you would gain 1 life, instead lose 1 life.”
This wasn't my list, but yes, I agree 100%. VetEx is just not a playable card in Premodern anymore (if it ever was). I could also see just not playing BoP at all, and simply play more actual lands and more real cards.
Combo HAS to be "bad" cause there's no Force of Will. Last time combo was tier 0 it broke the format in half (this was before me joining the format, but I understand Yawg Bargain was messed up).
That's not to say that there aren't some very good combo decks in the format (Replenish, Angry Hermit, FEB, etc), but they all have weaknesses and none is broken.@@whitneyweiss3067
As a False Cure player, fully agree with dumping blue. Treetop Villages probably not a good fit because the deck needs quite a lot of mana to go off and losing manlands to removal is not ideal. Instead of Elvish Visionary, Wall of Roots may be better choice if we are looking to increase number of creatures as they block aggro and generate mana to go off earlier by a turn. I still think Diabolic Intent is good, and even more so after losing blue search spells. Hence, Vet Explorer is still here to stay to be sac to Diabolic Intent. Duresses are great however. Oh yar, in dropping Fact or Fict, we need another draw engine so that's gotta be Phyrexian Arena, Infernal Contract or Necrologia.
@@fpawluszmtg i agree. i think replenish is the best and my favorite combo deck, but its a nice refresher from other formats where combo is ever present

When False Cure was in Standard, I remember building it with Life Burst and Insidious Dreams, good times. Love your Premodern contents.
Thank you for watching! It's sweet that there were some cool things to do with it in standard!

Mazo muy chulo, más videos como éste Fran por favor! Me encantaría ver una lista 2.0

Very nice wrap up. I agree 100% on every points. Thanks a lot for this video
Whenever I play this style of deck I am always trying to see where it can be taken to make it as good possible. It's why I enjoy playing them!
Nostalgic dreams gotta be one of the most underrated green cards ever, that thing is just insane I love it so much
It's certainly really good in a deck like this one!
lot of mana, i 'll add the storm spell that make 4/4 beast to wish in the end game, always great with C wish even without wake :)
Amazing decks and games!
Fun stuff for sure!

Certainly some good stuff ❤

It doesnt replace the life gain. They gain 6 then lose 12 so it only = -6 total
Example: at 20 life, gain 1 life (21), False Cure triggers and you lose 2 life for each 1 that was gained. 1 was gained, so -2. 21-2=19. Net result to life total is identical to, “if you would gain 1 life, instead lose 1 life.”
It needs that plus 4 plus 4 spell 2
It definitely takes a lot of steps to get there, haha
