This has all of the critical attributes to be a great film. The acting is great and the way the scenes are filmed, lighting, music of quality, costumes, you guys are destined to be great. What America really needs now is more Westerns where the bad guy loses, and the good and decent guy wins. If Hollywood would make more of these types of films, maybe the children watching will become more like the kids I grew up with in the 60s and not like the thugs and criminals of today.
Far out, there a so many “critics” in this comment section. Everyone needs to loosen the fuck up and enjoy the film. It’s a good 18 minute short film with some damn good production value behind it. I don’t think these people realise what it takes to get the resources to pull something like this off, and to such a high degree as this film has done. Stop complaining about the smallest things like the wrong type of glass bottle and Stevie wonder on the piano and just appreciate the effort that has gone into making something of this quality
Thank you for all of your comments. This was an ambitious and early effort in film directing and I certainly learnt a great deal from the experience. Please take a look at my channel for my recent horror short 'Long Drive Home'. Thank you for the support.
Holy f* how'd he get his hands to the front that quick? Especially being tied together with no slack. Must be a ninjitzu cowboy. Rare breed I hear. Amazing how they got one on film. Lmao
Damn, good characters, those eyes are dead, the quick draw was done perfect,, I wonder how many takes it took to get that so great. Perfectly steady and no fake jerk. Thank you for this.
I got all the way to minute 11, where a guy beats a sheriff that is pointing a shotgun t him. This after a tied up guy beats another one pointing him with a gun and after someone survives execution. Absurd, completely absurd.
Was that diamond Dallas page ? Haha could of been better, like before the brothers have the duel "you know you can't beat me little bro" . Still takes a lot of work and coordination to put something like this on. And you get to play cowboy,.never a bad thing.
@davidsouthwell7772 I think they were more worried about smallpox back then but if they had been smart enough to wear masks then probably not so many would have died.
Matt Connors I would imagine this could be because had they been drinking actual Jack they may have preferred actual bullets, which I imagine you(as I) would have preferred the whole goddamned thing to have been anyway. Cheers ma’man.
Overall, I liked it. I'd give it a solid 3 out of 5 stars. The lowered hat brim and then slowly revealing the eyes trick that Clint Eastwood perfected was a bit overdone in this short I thought. I liked Red..thought he was spot on. The brother wasn't all that great. The kissing scene lacked passion. Loved when the whore took the money. That was awesome. Loved when Emily put a hole in Red's forehead. Now, let's critique the town a bit. First off, most Western towns were filled with folks that had lived hard lives. A great many of the men had come back from the war from both sides. They were used to carrying firearms and usually were at least somewhat proficient with them. When the outlaws went into the saloon the streets were full of people. When they came out to go into the bank, the streets were empty. My first thought was that the Sheriff was standing by with some men ready to ambush them when they came out. Where were the rest of the men when they came out? Where were the rest of the townspeople? Back then, men knew what damage a shotgun could do at close range and they wanted no part of it. Back then they used 10ga double barrel shotguns for the most part. All the Sheriff had to do was aim to the right side and pull the trigger and then swivel to the left a bit and pull a second time and every single outlaw would have been down crying out in pain for Mommy. Those are the primary reasons I'd give this only a 3 out of 5. One star for each of the things I liked. But hey, keep it up....it was good enough to know that you're on the right track as far as film-making can be.
Where are the horses??? Seriously, the lawman was walking the bad guy back to town! No horses were tied up outside the bars. In only one scene a non-speaking extra gets on a horse.
I must confess that I did not finish this one. But the actor who portrays the cruel man we see from the very first shot of the film, pointing his pistol.. that actor is damn superb. Were I an established filmmaker in the market for a good Western, I would contract this actor on the strength of how the hell he knows how to wear a cowboy hat. The villainous malice coming off of him is absolutely palpable, like Eastwood in "Unforgiven." 5/5 stars to that actor. Ya'll did a fine job, though. Be proud.
I agree. It was to over the top typical western scenes....especially at the end. view from under feet as he steps in, close up of the eyes, moving away coat to reveal gun...the gun shot sounds were off and the acting was terrible.
Extremely good sound repro! I mean, a damned-gunshot sounds just like what it does here: A snappy-little report, medium recoil, with a moderate-echo. Could've been a bit more smoky with the black powder charges, but then again maybe the air was a bit-drier than usual, and the powder was fresh? LOL, just messin' with your mind! Great special FX.......!
superb movie sets, the music had effective moments and added atmosphere....the acting was somewhat lacking energy and emotion....not enough extras and hustle and bustle for a small town to believe that it wasn't a movie set, but I enjoyed it overall...
In the movies it only takes eight seconds to choke somebody completely to death because people don’t have like three minutes to watch you choke somebody…
Good story. I suggest not getting any shots of tree stumps of logs that look like they were cut with a chainsaw. Most felled trees were done with and axe back in the day. A two man crosscut saw is a little rougher looking.
I spotted the brown beer bottles at 12:06 that sticks out as modern day. Next time just paint them black with spray paint and put fake labels on them everyone will think it's black glass. I didn't notice anything else other than plastic buttons that's okay.
Keep doing what you're doing, just look a little closer when editing and avoid those props & other items in the frame that scream "the mid 20th. century" like the modern shotguns or the tree stumps that have been cut with a chainsaw. Keep it up, I like it
It takes a lot of courage to hold a prisoner from behind while another points the gun in his face ... But an even more difficult question. How do you get your hands tied behind your back, then fall down, and immediately get up with your hands tied in front? I stopped seeing this masterpiece instantly. LOL
Yeah, I was thinking the same. Just means the slug is pre-formed to do maximum damage as it plows forward. Maybe a ladies derringer causes a hell of a bruise, but that's it.
A 44 or 45 Colt can penetrate 8 inches of pine board. I would not want to be holding that guy if his brother was going to shoot him. Cap threads on the bottle makes it modern. Vent holes and sewn brim makes the hat modern. Not sure why someone in the old west would cut piles of wood with a saw and then leave it to rot? If the sheriff is holding the shotgun in front of him and the bad guy shoots the gun out of his hands, where did the bullet go after it hit his hand? It should have gone into the sheriff. These are minor points. I'm just nitpicking. Pretty good movie and acting. Best part: Whore's first thought is to grab what is in the dead man's pocket. that was great!!
Really great movies could be made without the language. Why has it become so much of a requirement do use foul language word means absolutely nothing. And ads absolutely nothing
A few hints for you guys, when the camera looks down the barrel of a revolver make sure you can see the bullets, even if you use snap caps the effect looks real, and the lighting in the saloon, with that many windows it would never be that dark, can't even see the outlaws face, but the light is good in the windows. The bad guys hopping out of the bank after the hold up and the town sheriff just had to pull the trigger on that mules hear and not shoulder it. Needs work guys.
@@Mrflymess Very close! But I think its 'I Wish' by Stevie Wonder. Right at the start of the chorus where it goes, "I wish those days....." Either way, the keyboardist's faux pas takes us right out of the 1870's and plops us down in the 1970's. th-cam.com/video/hYKYka-PNt0/w-d-xo.html
It's missing a certain logic. No one is going to shoot someone with their buddy standing behind them(tension is defused). If there is a gun pulled, then it dropped to the side, then picked up again an pointed at the victim, there has to be a reason(doubt for instance; what would mother think of me). If you are going to execute someone; one bullet just didn't seem right, unless it is to the skull. Dramatic moment missed. If the shooter missed him on purpose, for a specific reason then more tension, more complex relationship and story, bigger payoff. The writing is on the nose, so the first page rings untrue... That said, appreciate the effort, very pretty pictures. Respectfully.
Pro Tip #1: If your budget doesn't allow for horses... don't attempt making a western Pro Tip #2: If you decide to try to make a western without horses, at the very least dress your characters appropriately and not as horsemen... the footwear and clothing cowboys wore was designed for spending their day on horseback, not walking. Pro Tip #3: The fastest shooters exist today, and not even they can draw and fire faster than that sheriff would have been able to pull the trigger on that already levelled shotgun. It's stuff like this that pulls the average viewer right out of the mood.

I liked this story about 2 outlaw brothers. And how one of them tried too changed his life. I never expected it too end the way it did. Awesome job.
This has all of the critical attributes to be a great film. The acting is great and the way the scenes are filmed, lighting, music of quality, costumes, you guys are destined to be great. Looks like he would have figured where his brother was from what he said at the beginning. Excellent job with the music.
Cant beat a good killen story. Two brothers, so true.
Great Movie, please come out with more Westerns.
Excelente. Con estos shorts te das cuenta de que no se necesita una pelicula de 3 horas.
I liked this film! Also was the playing the WILD WILD WEST THEME SONG in the saloon?!? Nice!!!
Must have taken place in Texas. They don't mess around in Texas, and that includes the women. Nice film, very good work.
*@ **2:47**, Is that a Stevie Wonder song that someone is playing on the piano? I didn't know Stevie's songs were popular in western times. LOL*
There was obviously a lot of work went into this and I think it’s really good!

Thoroughly enjoyed this - watched it 3 times. Hope you make another - and I know where this was filmed.
Congratulations! I´ve enjoyed. The town is great.
Well played
Good film I enjoyed it.
Just found these films today. June 30th, 2019 WOW!
Now that was some real fine actin'🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Great film!
The dude holding him would've got shot to.
Or covered in cherry pie.
Honestly, the minions don't seem too bright.
That's what was thinking too.
Well that's a lot of killing and dying in just 18 minutes, would have taken Eastwood two and a half hours ;o)
plus no horses were mistreated
I love these!
Super Good movie short
Great film, wish I had found it long ago, thank you.
Great short movie
Yaaa girl quick draw crazy how things in life happens
I had watched a lot of western short films and it’s like some do go with the history in the clothing and some just don’t care.
Wonderful wonderful! Needs a bit of work but very well executed in my opinion
Damn, good characters, those eyes are dead, the quick draw was done perfect,, I wonder how many takes it took to get that so great. Perfectly steady and no fake jerk. Thank you for this.
"Brother against brother, and one had to die."
that was an excellent short film
very nice,thank you
I opening scene really had me worried....thought it may be Alec Baldwin holding that gun.
I like this already
I got all the way to minute 11, where a guy beats a sheriff that is pointing a shotgun t him. This after a tied up guy beats another one pointing him with a gun and after someone survives execution. Absurd, completely absurd.
So what! Have fun, enjoy it.
Where I come from, falling in the grass like that will give you a bad case of the chiggers. ; )
Equal Opportunity Offender gross, light everything on fire and start over.
Clint Eastwood was sitting on the Balcony Watching this, And now He’s the Sheriff 🤪🙀👍⁉️⁉️
1 step up from a silent movie.

@davidsouthwell7772
I think they were more worried about smallpox back then but if they had been smart enough to wear masks then probably not so many would have died.
Now i must say i did like this great job.
Fantastic - Loved it
Why is everyone drinking tea in shot glasses from a current Jack Daniels bottle?
Matt Connors I would imagine this could be because had they been drinking actual Jack they may have preferred actual bullets, which I imagine you(as I) would have preferred the whole goddamned thing to have been anyway. Cheers ma’man.
Brand loyalty/recognition.
Pretty town...authentic Victorian paint job.

10:08 I think blood is a little darker than that. Especially after it dries. That looks like he spilled KoolAid on his shirt
You guys are so durn jealous of the hot cowboy, you just had to kill 'em twice? 😂🤣🤣 jk. Great video! I love the surprise ending; fantastic twist!
Director to piano player 'play something authentic from that era' director ' aaand action!' Piano player starts playing Michael Jackson song.

Who allowed the light leak onto the film to mess up the shadows in some of your shots.
I think that all that money they stole should be put in the bank where it is safe. They don't want someone trying to kill them for it.
Did we all take good notes on how the 'gun free town (zone)' worked out?
A one horse town.
In the movies it only takes eight seconds to choke somebody completely to death because people don’t have like three minutes to watch you choke somebody…

Hate to do it but I gotta call BS. That tin star would not stop a .45 caliber round......
Buscadero rigs!?! You had a good set, decent costuming (a few quibbles there), and you spoil it by using buscadero rigs. “I am depressed.”
His hands were tied behind his back. Then tied in front, allowing him to choke the bounty hunter. Huge miss. Should've been caught.

Decent but a western without horses? Were they going to just walk after the bank?
Probably not filmed in South Carolina or that pine stump he crawled up on would have had a massive for ant bed on it! 😁
