By 1918 the Germans had come to the intelligent realization that having a whole bunch of excellent aircraft ready to fly is completely moot if you don't have the trained and experienced personnel to operate those machines, and were issuing parachutes to try to increase savings on human capital. The British on the other hand weren't so intelligent and were still clinging on to their silly notions of pride and honor, so Royal Flying Corps pilots weren't as fortunate as their Central Powers opponents. It is very possible this was a factor in why there were so many more top German Aces of higher kill tallies; they had the opportunity to bail out and try again another day if circumstances conspired against them in one particular engagement. That wasn't helped by the largely offensive Allied air doctrine and defensive German air doctrine by this stage of the war. Loving this new series!
it was the allied side that refused to issue parachutes to its pilots thinking that they would bail out prematurely and waste a recoverable plane whereas the Germans issued parachutes regularly to their pilots once they became available especially in late 17 thru the end of the war. Many pilots died on our side that could have lived had those chutes been issued. They were available.
Parachutes are just a waste of resources, you can make atleast 10 bed sheets with the material. Besides everyone knows if you roll proper than you negate all fall damage.
The photo in the cockpit is of Joy Lofthouse, one of the women pilots in the Air Transport Auxiliary, who delivered military aircraft to airfields in World War Two. The BBC did a documentary called Spitfire Women some years back, interviewing the survivors, and I think she was in it. They had some amazing stories to tell.
Did you see the news? The second part of Flying Circus will be out this year, ten new planes I believe plus a career mode! Grats on the "Ace in a flight" achievement.
I started a Camel campaign in RoF the other day, inspired by Taffs first video in this series; on my way home from an offensive patrol I was (literally) focusing on biscuits and tea (I was hungry after a days work) when I got bounced and killed by two Albatrosses. Note to self: never let eat biscuits and drink tea while on patrol!
That hole in the wing has improved everything. You can see better which allows you to stay on the target. The slight loss in speed seems to have given you a better bite on turns. It also is a much better product to watch as half the screen isn't blocked up.
I think the last two you shot down were Pfalz D.III airplanes and not Albatros, the tail wings were slightly different and the lower wings were different too.
Didn't get a look close enough to tell if they were the D.III or D.IIIa model but given the time period, I guess the latter. A bit stodgier than the Albatros but less likely to shed the lower wing!
Enjoy all your Il2/RoF & flying circus vids Taff. If you haven't read it look up 'Open cockpit' by Arthur Gould Lee. Lots on the Pup, only briefly mentions the Camel but it's an eye opener. He like everyone was no fan of ground attack.
Classic Taff landing, the stuff of legend! Now away to 'Alfie's Ward' for tea and biscuits and morphine. I have my eye on you, there seems to be a pattern developing.........? Pax dude.
Perfect 3 point inverted landing Taff👍. See your an adrenaline junkie. Allied pilots didn't have parachutes as they considered them an act of cowardice and often shot axis pilots that bailed out for that reason. Also as you said they considered the aircraft more valuable. Love your work. Cheers from Oz
I am pissing myself laughing! That was deemed a successful landing? Well, he did walk away under his own steam, but upside down landings surely can't be deemed "successful"! Anyway, that aside, five kills was a good return from this mission, Taff. The solidity of German fuselages is a bit ridiculous though. You wouldn't expect them to bounce off the ground and do a summersault with three twists. Obviously a bit more work required from the devs there!
Your videos are my favorites. I like your use of adult language. So many use the language we used to use in the military, but stopped using when we got out(Unless something really, really made us unhappy). Keep up the good work.
You Bombed completely the wrong target, the smoke you saw and thought was crashed aircraft was the target, which was on the other side of the river from the town, Nice Ace though!
hi taff, you are correct about the observation balloon's as the men in them had the parachute and it's a shame they didn't give the parachutes to the fighter pilots as i'm sure their lives was more valuable then the a/c. good kills and an ace in a day, TALLY HO :0)
I'm sure I read somewhere that part of the reason aircrew didn't get parachutes was that early parachutes were very bulky. So a guy in a balloon would have room for one, but not a fighter pilot.
@@bentilbury2002 i've not heard that one but it's quite plausible as they didn't have much room. i know the pilots had a pistol or revolver for a coup de grace in case of flames.
@@bentilbury2002 Bulky, heavy, and the RFC didn't want to waste a perfectly good aircraft by having men bail out early, so they'd rather lose the pilots for no good reason.
5 kills, hurrah! 5,000 Rubles.......errrr........sorry, forgot this is the RFC, not the Red Airforce. But an ace in one flight ought to earn at least a gong, right?
After all... they are still infuenced by IL-2's core physic for WW2 planes... but I agree that their durability is way too high (at least some of the planes) for Great War timeline.
Courtesy of google: On the outbreak of the First World War, parachutes were issued to crews of airships and balloons. It was claimed at the time that parachutes were too bulky to be used by pilots of aircraft.
Technically speaking, they are not DLC tho', each of them is a standalone game. But yeah, they are hella expensive to collect, not to mention the requirement for extra peripherals.
I can only advise you to look out for sales. I just started to play IL2 BoS and bought it pretty cheap with also some dlc´s for about 30€. The prices without sales would be too expensive for me personally. But I think it´s a really nice game.
5 kills and no medals? Not even a mere Croix de Guerre or Médaille militaire? That's harsh. Keep racking them up Taff. But please get back to Rise of Flight

A landing Alfie would have been proud of... he was looking on with pride. Loving this series of IL2 great battles.

I seem to recall that program! Will have to find it on TH-cam and rewatch!

War never co-operates with your eating and sleeping schedule. ;-)
I don't like how the planes bounce when they hit the ground.
Agreed
Not realistic.
they were incredibly slow to be fair
It's more fun to watch than just making a hole in the ground.
One of your better landings Taff. ;-)
Jingles Landing in full color 😆
Grats on Ace in a flight. Yes the Poms held the Air craft higher than the Pilots.
23:13: "I like their silvery paintscheme" *proceeds to decorate it nicely with 50 bullet holes*

You might want to check if the bombs have an arming time or distance

Ace in One , nice. The FC pilots I talk to recommend that a 5 sec delay on bombs , gives best results.
I set mine to 3 seconds but I don’t regularly fly ww1 aircraft usually only ww2 and it seems to work just fine with the big ass bombs

That was a lot of fun! Though you're supposed to do your victory roll above the airfield, not on it! 😁
Good job. The Camel was a handful. The gyroscopic effect was pronounced.
Good shooting, well done. Touch down is improvable.
You Picked the Webley Fosbery it's an Automatic Revolver
Great shooting!
Thank you. Good video !
Thx
Impressive reverse ground-loop at the end there Taff :-)
A really fun episode.
Fantastic flight today, 5 kills, something to be proud of.
You flying much better 👍

Taff: Why is he so slow?
Me: ummmmm I'm not an engineer but the smoke coming from his engine may have something to do with...... maybe
Five ..Great Shooting Taff. Pip Pip.

Definitely turns faster to the right than to the left.
Thank you!!!
nice shooting ace!
I don't think you can unarm bombs once they are armed. You would have to remove the fuse because once its screwed in it is staying there.
Set your bomb delay to 5 seconds, That's the only way they will go off.
Will do 👍

Hi guys. Love to join you in a co-op fly out.
Because it took time to train them, I would think that pilots would be more valuable than the planes themselves. 🏴
You have to bear in mind that the decisions were made by men of a similar mind that ordered troops to WALK across nomansland toward the enemy.
@Taff in Exile Again I beseech you... show the 'chute, not the dead airplane. Please!
Really most peeps like seeing the wizz bangs
Do you need additional content to play the career mode?
that tail wiggle lol.. :)
5 kills, hurrah! 5,000 Rubles.......errrr........sorry, forgot this is the RFC, not the Red Airforce. But an ace in one flight ought to earn at least a gong, right?
Danger from the enemy?... mediocre. Danger from wingmen?... high. Landings?... extreme.
Dead Albatross bounce will now replace "dead cat bounce" as an idiom!
Are you going to play war at sea?
Yup!
I know I'm in evil goit for asking but can you actually shoot the parachutes
dunno to be honest never tried it
I'm not sure, but I think you are shooting too close as the converging pt is further away
Is it me or in Il-2 those planes are bullet sponges compered to Rise of Flight?
After all... they are still infuenced by IL-2's core physic for WW2 planes... but I agree that their durability is way too high (at least some of the planes) for Great War timeline.

I seem to recall from somewhere that the pilots were the ones who refused to wear them, probably out of pride and bravado as much as discomfort.
Find some vids of how to land bi-planes properly. Nice mission tho.
His new name wingclipper
Parachutes? That would lower the moral. Well what they said anyway.
Totally agree, flogging will continue until moral improves!
It's an enlarged window not wing.
The damage models are horrible. Not only do ALL the fuselages stay intact during combat, they even bounce off the ground in one piece.
That's not the worst of it, 1 burst can take out all your controls.
IL2 would be great if all the dlc didn’t cost more than the actual game
Technically speaking, they are not DLC tho', each of them is a standalone game. But yeah, they are hella expensive to collect, not to mention the requirement for extra peripherals.

get 5 kills, celebrate with a cartwheel on landing
Needs improved pilot damage - you whacked them many many times
5 kills and no medals? Not even a mere Croix de Guerre or Médaille militaire? That's harsh. Keep racking them up Taff. But please get back to Rise of Flight
AI pilots don’t seem as good on this.
Not on this mission, the previous one they were a right royal pain in the rear
@@TaffinExile ah fair one, I only have RoF and get shot down 50% of time.
The cheesiest crashes , are so bad to watch , F.O.F. is a bit better . I miss Red Baron 3D . Shame it has not been redone with modern tech.
