Just a suggestion: before installing the M.2 turn the console on and make sure it works. Then there is no question as to if you screwed things up. Turn it off and then install. Retired electronic technician speaking.
Installing an SSD would not cause any problems with the motherboard or PSU, So if it doesn't work after installing the SSD, then it didn't work beforehand. IT for over 20 years ☺️
Thing I loves was when transferring my 2nd External NVME loaded up with games from regular PS5 did not need to be reformatted. Everything worked with no need to download games over.

Entertaining video. I will be getting my Pro tomorrow and already have the disc drive (bought 6 weeks ago from Argos) and the stand (currently attached to my PS5 launch model). I have also just bought a 4 TB Western Digital 850X NVMe SSD as I figured I might as well max out the internal storage as I like to have as many games installed as possible and was always having to move or uninstall stuff on my PS5 with a 2 TB internal expansion NVMe drive. I still think Sony should have sold the Pro with the disc drive and stand for £600 personally. I think they are scalping their user base by making them buy the extras separately because they know full well that people want them, especially the disc drive.
Did you install the disc drive? I couldn't get mine to make the "click" noise. I pressed in it so hard it caved in the metal a little bit. I tried multiple times. FML

Here is their answer: ”The recommended procedure for setting up your PS5 Pro is as follows: Unpack the PS5 Pro: Remove the console and accessories from the box. Connect the HDMI cable and power cord: Connect the HDMI cable to your TV and the power cord to a power outlet. Turn on the PS5 Pro: Press the power button on the front of the console. Follow the on-screen instructions: Complete the initial setup process, including creating a Sony account and setting up your network connection. Install the Disc Drive (if applicable): Once the initial setup is complete, you can safely install the Disc Drive. Definately getting one, I always want the best, we're not on this planet for long so wouldn't want to starve myself of not playing the pro with improved graphics etc just because it costs more than I'd like to spend.
I almost got a PS5 Pro, but after seeing some reviews especially the Digital Foundry video I am happy with my original PS5. The PS5 Pro seems to be a console more for those that don't already have a PS5. So I will just wait for the PS6.

I've just done this (just the M2) from my PS5 to Pro. M2 worked.. straight out. Then when moving games from it to my PROs storage... it's now locked up and the PS5 Pro is not turning on. Just flashing Blue 😞 I'm guessing I'm gonna have to take out the M2 again now. Hope that works :( one day old and can't turn it on.
It still blows my mind that not only the PS5 Pro is crazily expensive (£700), but it doesn't come with a disc drive & you have to buy that separate. If people wants to buy the Pro console, that's fine, especially since it comes with awesome features, but if I was to buy a PS5. I'd buy the OG one that comes with a disc drive.

Okay it would be helpful if you had pointed out which side the hard drive goes into. When I took my cover off the fan was there but there was no Drive plate it's on the opposite side of the system
For people who dont know. The games are not on the disk. You still have to download the game when you insert the disk for the first time. If Sony shuts down you stuck with a nice coaster😆😆😆😆😆
Setting mine up now. So there’s no option for any horizontal stand if you install the disk Drive? I put mine on and it does not lay flat horizontally with the Drive installed. It’s all whobbly.

I'm guessing it will need to be formatted. But you can also transfer data across the two PS5's - Personally I just uploaded my saves to the cloud and downloaded the games again

How’d you get that top plate back on tightly? For me it won’t clip back in no matter what and it’s not damaged.
