She can probably recall what the weather was like that day .
Truly phenomenal memory!
SHE'S ONE OF THOSE IN A MILLION WHO HAS A MEMORY LIKE AN IRON GATE. SHE CAN RECALL ANYTHING!!!
What's amazing is she didn't know everyone was like her back then.
And what was in her stool.
@@dustinolvey8877 That's true, actually. She can.
Finally, an entertainer who actually knows what clip they are showing and what the show is about...
Marilu's photographic memory is just one of her attractive qualities.
Such a rare & feakish talent
I absolutely love her. What a gem.😃👍
She was just 30 yrs old in this video. She was riding high on Taxi.
She has the rare ability of perfect photographic memory so she can repeat in her mind exactly what wrongs Kaufman and others him said or did to her forever.
I had such a crush on Marilu Henner!
Me too
Word
Same. Still do.
Any heterosexual male with two working eyes had a "crush" (putting it EXTREMELY mildly) on this woman.
Had?
Just throwing this out there but back in ‘94’ when I was 7 at Nickelodeon studios, they asked what my favorite Nick show was, I kept saying “Taxi” and they were like “ok kid that’s enough”
So happy to read this. Taxi was my favorite back then too (and I was 11/12). I remember Nick (at Nite) had some kind of Taxi trivia contest, and I won a Taxi wrist watch and whistle.
That’s awesome 😎
Great, wonder what reaction a kid saying "Benny Hill" would've got?
@@wotdoesthisbuttondo
!(: That would have been me ;)!
That’s awesome
I had a *HUGE* crush on her
Get in line, pal
She is absolutely gorgeous, inside and out. Such a kind and beautiful lady.
And brilliant-She literally remembers every day in fine detail. You can say what did you do on April 10th 5 years ago and she has total recall.
Marilu Henner has a photographic memory. She can tell you what happened on any given day from her entire life. It’s amazing!
- Not photographic. That's different. Her memory is Highly Superior Autobiographical Memory. (HSAM).
@@HardRockMiner Thanks professor.
@@TurtleTimeVoiceOvers - It will be on the final exam.
@@HardRockMiner 😁👍
@@HardRockMiner I can remember months and years but not exact days of events in my life. Is that the same thing?
No offense to Dave or WW Pants, but if Marilu Henner came onto my talk show, I wouldn't want to talk about Andy. I'd want to talk about Marilu Henner,
From what I recall, Kaufman was a nightmare to work with and it only got worse as he became the breakout star.
I'd want to talk about Andy
Dave wants to dig up some dirt about Kaufman and I love how Marilu shut him down. Letterman could be a real schmuck.
@@cw5050That’s because you’re a fan simping on a celebrity, not his coworker who has to see his 5 days a week.
well, they worked together... so it IS her life too.
Back when talk show hosts actually aloud their guests to talk. Without incerting themselves in every other word - Dave was the best. Been watching him since his show began in 82’
My *pants* always got *wide* when she appeared on the tube. She's out of this *world* .
She is so pretty.
Kaufman managed to get his Tony Clifton character signed as a bit part on the show. He ( the character) was eventually fired in front of the entire cast. Was it Andy or Bob Zmuda?
Marilu Chicago’s very own. She’s a Princess
I met her once. She remembered the day I was born. Crazy.
Love this really old Dave stuff most.
The old celebrities were more down to earth than the new one's today. Refreshing.
For the most part, they cut their teeth doing stage acting and many still did Summer Stock theatre when their sitcoms were in summer reruns. In other words, many were “working actors” and took on the philosophy that they must understand people and how people interacted with each other. I think now, there is a narcissistic thing going on where it’s about the continual promotion of a face/ego. Now, there were certainly Divas back in the day (Elizabeth Taylor, etc.) but that existed in its own odd territory in the acting world and it was pretty rarified…and it wasn’t always a compliment.
@@drummer78 I cannot imagine today's Hollywood actors staying at a train conductors house they just met in Italy for 10 days or sleeping on a crowded apartment floor in a walk up in Sicily. To high and mighty for that.
Great to be able to see all these old clips so easy on You Tube.
For any big Taxi fans out there, the interesting thing about the clip they played is that it appears to contain a line that was cut from the actual broadcast, when Alex asks her if Zifka has a last name she replies "Zabaloplop", I double checked and that isn't there in the final edit.
Lots of lines and parts are being cut nowadays, squeeze in a few more commercials
Ah,the origin of my infatuation with redheads
The golden age of late night talk shows
I didn't care for Letterman at this stage. He tried too hard. Later, I enjoyed his calmness.
Somewhere along the line years later she had a change of heart and ultimately having high regard for Andy. You can find an interview with her on YT talking more about Andy.
My guess is that she found him to be exhausting and his insistence on trolling everybody probably came across as selfish and rude. I can see her point. I would feel the same. It is one thing to troll the world because that is your schtick, but to inflict that 16 hours a day on your fellow professional actors is not necessary.
I doubt she or the cast did. They probably die a little inside everytime they have to pretend he is now a "genius". He was weird and rude, and could be argued harassed the cast under the weird guise it was his Tony Clifton character, then gaslight them pretending they were not the same people. As the guy above said..how exhausting that had to be. What the cast says now about Kaufman is 100% being classy and not speaking ill of the dead and bringing up the bad past.
Smart and mature. To not acknowledge him would only serve to diminish her in the public's eyes.
She was such a beauty.
I love the letterman. I love the show, but it is all about dave back then , he’s grown old and wise and more compassionate with his beard ;)
She is on that list of one of the most personable, approachable, and humble actors in hollywood.
Do you know that Ms Marilu Henner has the capacity to remember EVERYTHING from when she was a child up to the present day ? Its called a Superior Autobiographical Memory ! For example she can tell what day it was on September 18 th 1964 without reference to a calendar ? She can tell you what she had for dinner on Saturday February 4 th 1973 as another example ? What colour of clothes and which clothes she was wearing on other dates and what the headlines were in the news on all days gone by ? I believe that under 20 people on earth have this otherworldly gift ? I wish i was one of them ...what a life ! PS ..remembering lines for a movie would be a doddle for Ms Henner !
Happy Birthday, Marilu! (April 6)
I forgot how cute she is😮
Fun fact: Marilu has a highly superior autobiographical memory, ( HSAM. ) One of only 100 cases in the world, she can recall past events in near photographic detail. And she's pretty, too.
LOVED her in Brooklyn 99.
That Berkshire Place sponsorship still paying off 42 years later
I wonder if that number still works.
Thank you very much.
Sad to say, but her two ex-husbands passed away within a week from each other last year. That must have been a rough patch in her life. She sure can get your attention.
Suup’ w/er’ supposed I.Q. & perfect memory recall . Pre- cutting white days.
Who knows if it was a rough patch? I don’t know her personally. Maybe she hated her ex-husbands.
Andy was so young when he died, just 35.
Andy Kaufman died of lung cancer in 1984.
you ever notice how even the celebrities in the 80s were more genuine and real? now adays its seems everyone is fake .
Dave should have asked her what she was doing the night of the moon landing.
Smoke show then, smoke show now
OK Neo, tell us all about it

Sexiest lady, Marilu, everybody's dreamgirl🥰😍😘🤩edit: thanks for showing the clip!
Randal Carver was good too. However, he didn't last long.
I knew RANDALL CARVER. What an interesting young man back then...early years of TAXI.
He is a talented actor but evidently he was cut early on bc his character wasn't quirky enough....not memorable.
I'm 78 now and will NEVER FORGET meeting Randy.

what a beautiful woman.
A gorgeous woman❤
The added laughter track on that show was silly and over the top, like most USA comedy shows it spoils it.
You mean the live audience? 🤦♂
Come to think of it, her character did VERY few scenes with Andy Kaufman during the run of the show
Her brother Tom uses her name to get whatever his wants. And he talks a little too much about her private affairs to strangers. Not good.
Taxi - one of the greatest TV shows...
This clip reminds me of January 16, 1964. I was home from school. It was 3:24 PM. I made a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. First, I put on the peanut butter. I opened the fridge and saw that we were out of my favorite raspberry jelly. So I used strawberry, instead. That finished the jar, so I threw the empty jar in the garbage.
What kind of peanut butter how many ounces of peanut butter did you put on your sandwich? what is happening in the world what was the headline - I can’t even imagine what a burden would be to have a photographic memoryt
@@gregb8565 Well, obviously I know the answers to those questions. I didn't include them because I thought they'd detract from the storyline.
2:10 - When Dave realizes he is talking to someone smarter than him and he'd better steer clear of all the other topics she can explain to him while he stares blankly.
You know that woman has a a supernatural memory brain function ? She can remember every single day since she was 12.
There is a documentary about that…
This was the best time to be alive... and I was just born.
I wish I was the age I am now back then. Darn it.
Nostalgia, that's all
Back then was not any different than today, maybe even worse - it WAS worse for blacks and women
I imagine Kaufman could be "interesting" to work with.
According to the SNL backstage bio, even Ann Beatts thought he was too eccentric 😮
so funny that she was afraid to talk about Andy 😅
She was very close to Andy and very protective of him .
I think it was snowing that day.
They cut out Kenny the Gardener.
This is really early and this was very stiff. Letterman was still new and you could see it. Talk about an awkward interview. LOL
And Andy Kaufman was a weirdo. The bad stories about him are a lot. Jim Carrey thought he was a genius though and did a movie about him like 25 years ago where everyone showered praise of Kaufman. They even got the Taxi cast to be in the movie by dumping a ton of money on them. And I guarantee they all probably wanted to die pretending that they all loved the guy for that movie and thought he was a "genius" too. None of them did, at all. Only because he died young and the cast was classy that they never dumped on him publicly, other than the veiled things you see here.
Marilu still looks good these days but good god was she gorgeous back then.
Well obviously Andy had something unpleasant happen between Marylou and himself? She has a photographic memory and total recall. What she should have done is ask what Dave was going to ask her about?
Why do I think an REM song was written about this episode?
I tried calling the number at the end. Hotel Dunphy has switched numbers with Mutual Services, and their offices were closed. Yet another thriving American business ruined by meddling bureaucracy, ladies and gentlemen.
That's just so sad. I didn't even know that she was sick.
She's still alive
Because she isn't, though I did have to Google after this was posted to make sure.
@@thedude4672 That can't be right.
@@SigHawk04 Okay then what about Andy Kaufman?
@@seanwebb605 I think we have to start looking at the bigger picture: if the Letterman channel is posting a lot of these clips, but everyone's OK or otherwise not dead, and we're looking for reasons for all these posts... then, what's the common denominator?
Funny show.
As others have said Ms Henner has a photo memory and Andy did the best Elvis imitation by far. Some one on Taxi said Andy was one in a billion.
Johnny Dangerously
What a Doll.
That’s alright I never talk about him either
I liked Mary , but Carol Kane was very attractive as well .
I really liked Andy Kaufman in the early years but he became irritating and annoying very early in his career.
As a guy. She checks all the boxes.
Kaufman was not very funny to me. Christopher Lloyd is the reason I watch these reruns
Christopher Lloyd was hilarious in the Back to the Future Movies.
ABC, Not NBC
ABC: Sept 1978 - May 1982
NBC: September 1982 - June 1983
My god, what was she on in this segment ?
looks like a super forgetful chick, i bet she can't remember where she parked 10 minutes ago.
She's goofy.
Joe Rogan said Andy Kaufman was an a'hole.....he'll probably talk about him freely.
Lettermans favourite interview subject is himself
I think you mean _Letterman's_ and I've just watched the whole video and he doesn't mention himself once. What are the time stamps where you believe he talks about himself?
Pretty woman has those piercing eyes.
Marilu Henner such a beautiful woman with an uncanny photographic memory!
Taxi clip is cringe, but Marilu is aces.
It might be a burden to remember everything. I hope not.
I remember reading once, that Andy Kaufman was the only one of the main cast Marilu Henner didn't sleep with. I guess he must have been a real pain in the arse.
She reminds me of Mariah Carey...I think both were NY girls.
Personality plus …
You don't invite a guess on your show to talk about someone else. Total disrespect.
He was NOT a good interviewer back then. People sometimes forget when even legends start out, they are not good from the get go. I think he merely thought he would bring up all the cast as questions and had no idea she hated Kaufman. He was not prepared, had nothing to say to her and the comments he tried to make that were supposed to be funny landed like a dud.
So wrong. Yes, Dave tried too hard early on. But here he was spot on. Her immediate avoidance of wanting to talk about Andy, changed the script. Everybody was like wait, what and now wanted to know more.
He didn’t. The fact SHE was clearly avoiding AK peaked Dave interest. That’s obvious.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😂 hiiii
Listen if you think he was a genius you are welcome to that view but some of us thought he was a really annoying weirdo whose behavior was incomprehensible and not very funny.
Yep. 100% agree. Jim Carrey skewed the whole conversation about Kaufman with that fawning movie he did. Many people did not think he was funny, at all.
she seems awfully bougie for being into white knights.
David Letterman was a terrible interviewer in this clip. Wow. When I think of great late night interviewers, I always come back to Craig Ferguson. David was flat, flat. I think he got better towards the end though.
Craig Ferguson's interviews with
Robin Williams were ABSOLUTELY OVER THE TOP.
They BOTH were super talented and riffed off each other brilliantly.
FREE RANGE COMEDY
I sure miss Craig Ferguson. I blame the
idiot censors.😝
Huh. I wonder why Andy is a legend and I can’t even remember her name after just watching this clip?
Easy to answer, he isn't. Jim Carrey thought he was and made a movie about him and gave him unwarranted praise. Mostly because he knew he was good at playing Kaufman and it was a vanity project.
@@timreeves8937 oh, I didn’t realize that. That’s absolutely one of the dumber things I’ve heard on these platforms
@@joannaedwards6325 Henner slept with basically every guy she starred with. She admitted to sleeping with three of the guys she starred with on Taxi. She is now praised for her memory, but she was hardly a sane person either.
