You are EASILY my new favorite car reviewer! I genuinely had chills throughout from the combination of driving noise, music, and INCREDIBLE commentary. This video is AMAZING!!
Much appreciated! Each video takes about a week to produce (writing, filming, editing) which I can only spare time for during long holidays (e.g. summer holiday, Chinese New Year, etc.), so you can expect more to come within those periods.
Thanks and congratulations! Hope you enjoy that awesome car. Did you get a Boxster or a Cayman? I also heard the GTS gets the full leather interior standard. How is it? To answer your question, I don’t think it has to do with the ratios. According to the 981 brochure, both models seem to share the same steering ratio. But I have seen on some forums where the power steering software can be reprogrammed to alter the feel: rennlist.com/forums/981-forum/1339917-upgraded-steering-feel.html Perhaps this is what the previous owner had done? Or maybe they just changed the alignment/suspension.
@@Papa_POV thanks! I got the Boxster and as you so eloquently said in the video that open top feel is amazing! Adds to the occasion. Yes it has got half leather and half alcantara which feels quite special. You’re probably right on the steering. It has got the power steering plus option and sits on PASM suspension set up.
I have a 2014 Baxter S for the past 6 + years. It's a awesome car that I'll never sell. 3.4 leader naturally aspirated flat 6.,and it is fast. I have the PDK, and it was by choice. I Generally drive in sport mode, but also have a sport + . I call it super sport mode. When it shifts in that mode it darn near gives you wip lash. Love my car.
Unfortunately, the “metal inserts” on the Sport Design steering wheel aren’t actually metal but plastic. It’s the same with the genuine Porsche “aluminium look” petrol cap which could be purchased as an option. The NA 2.7 matched with the PSE and 6-speed manual gearbox is fantastic. The manual transmission gearing of the 2.7 is lower than that of the PDK (and also that of the S manual gearbox) and allows even greater opportunity to get the engine singing in the upper regions of its rev range. Driving nirvana!
Thanks for sharing! That’s pretty interesting. From what I’ve seen on the forums, people seem to think that manual gearing is too long vs the PDK. But perhaps they were referring to the S variant. I need to try a manual 2.7 981! If the gear ratios are indeed lower, that would make a manual 981 2.7 my ideal spec for the increased engagement and (from what I’ve heard) better reliability and lower maintenance costs. Unfortunately, the 981 was never sold with a manual gearbox here aside from GT4/Spyder class cars which are way too powerful for street driving (not to mention, expensive!). Perhaps I’ll need to import one if I decide to buy…
@@Papa_POV It is a common misconception about the PDK and manual gearing. The “base” 6-speed manual has the lowest overall gearing, particularly in 1st and 2nd, and it is lower than the S model’s manual gearbox. The PDK has the same gearing on both the 2.7 base and 3.4 S models, and as well as having a 7th gear its overall ratios (gearbox plus final drive) are longer than the 2.7 manual in every gear. It interesting that the factory data gives a lower torque handling capability for the manual gearbox fitted to the 2.7 base than that fitted to the 3.4 S so I don’t know whether the 2.7 6MT could be safely fitted to an S. If so, that would help address the common complaint about the gearing being too tall in the lower gears. Some have speculated that the tall gearing is designed to reduce noise, emissions and fuel consumption to help meet legislative and marketing requirements.
@@Papa_POV I don’t, even though I own one. I don’t really redline the engine that often, and when I do I’m not looking closely at the speed. I posted some detailed info about 981 gearing on a Planet-9 forum - will see if I can find a link, or you might be able to search for it yourself.
Thanks! Do the airfilters impact sound/performance at all? I wish I could have cleaned it (and that it was mine to clean haha) but HK had unpredictable rain at the time so it wouldn’t have been useful.
@@Papa_POV Well the downshifts are brutal loud with the BMC Airfilters 😅 and you can really hear at 5000rpm how it gets really louder! You can hear the Engine how it sucks the air in it! It’s really sonething different but only at high RPM 👍🏼
Hey Wasp, curious does your 981S ever putters or stutters when increasing speed? For example, there is like a millisecond glitch in the fuel line and there is an interruption in power. I have 981S as well and can’t figure out why mine putters/stutters for a fraction of a second. It happens often. I’m wondering if it’s fuel line issue or filter or something else?
@@jhan4915 Hey! No, not at all. It runs perfect without any glich. I just fuel it with Shell V-Power 100 Oktan. Maybe try to chance the fuel once and look if it still glich 🤔
The music ruins this video. I don't want to hear music competing w/the 981. Also there is no such thing as a 982 Porsche Boxster. The 718 Boxster is what Porsche replaced the 981 Boxster with.

You’re too kind! Thanks a lot :)
Boxster 981 is the most perfect sports car you can buy under 50K USD, you can’t name one car that comes close. Great video!
Thanks!

Thank you so much! I'm happy you enjoyed it :)
Beautiful video. Just picked up a low millage 981 GTS from a private collector. Great cars all round.
Also wondered if the steering rack ratios or software is different in the GTS? My GTS seems to have quite a bit of feedback even over small twigs etc.

Please don't refer to the 718 as a 982
just another name, both are correct
982 is the actual name. You know like 992 and 911. You learn something new everyday .

A 718 is a 982. I said it. Acceptance is fundamental to not being a douche. It’s a 982.
