This was unfortunately not a simple fix and I ended up getting in deeper than expected in regards to troubleshooting... however this video is guaranteed to help you fix your fridge as well as get a more in depth thorough diagnostic of your fridge.

Excellent video.
MUST clean bottom & rear to elimnate the dust / debris build up.
Replace all of the exposed & corroded plugs with warwerproof ones.
Likely vehile grade ones.
No need to replace the wires.
There is also di-electric grease that protects the connections.
Gardener Bender makes a Liquid Tape in lieu of shrink tubing, Wonderful.

Wonderful job of diagnosing the problem, and excellent presentation. My refrigerator light was out, and I viewed your video to learn how to fix it. All I had to do was cycle the door switch a few times, and bingo, problem solved. Must be bit of corrosion in the switch. Thanks so much for the help.
Just cut the corroded connectors off, and replace with connectors of your choice., or just make a permanent connection of each wire.

Man! I did electronics for 1 semester and quit to pursue something else. Honestly, I wouldn't go through all these steps to try and troubleshoot a defective fridge bulb. I can only commend you greatly for highlighting that there are many facets to every situation.
Good video with comprehensive troubleshooting. I started to follow it on my fridge. The bulb was loose, I only needed to screw it in. Job done.
Mine has 2 bulbs. I installed 2 LED bulbs to keep the heat from the bulbs out.
Before you drag out a bunch of tools and your VTM, first check the center contact of the bulb receptacle. This often gets compressed over time and does not meet up with the bulb even when screwed all the way in. With all power shut off pull up a bit on that contact and create some tension. Learned this from the maintenance guy at our apartment complex.
Thank you! This tip helped solved my problem. Turns out the contact point of the light socket did not come into contact with bottom contact point of the led light bulb!
This was it for me! I tested the socket voltage, tested the bulb, and both were good. Broke a tiny screwdriver trying to pry the tab up, then found an article suggesting I pull it up with needlenose pliers.
I think this is it for my fridge too..but idk exactly how to pull on it as it's covered in a shroud facing down in a very tight spot

Absolutely spot on! It was the freezer lite. I used a putty knife and removed the bulb housing and ordered one from Amazon. I didn't have to remove the drawers, only the front main freezer front, then used long hemastats (roach clips) to plug the connectors back together. 20 minutes. Thank you for your posting!!!

All I can say. This video was helpful. The problem I had was I had no ref lights working and no temperature control(ref is running nonstop). My ref's light is LED and is built in to the temperature control box. The only way to test it was to remove the entire panel. Good thing it was working fine when tested with a multimeter. I also tested the door switch, it was also working fine. Lastly, I checked the wires at the back. I was not able see the wires going inside the ref because it was behind the inverter unit. A rat has chewed 3 wires, 2 which provides power for the LED lights and one wire for the temperature control.
a rat in your kitchen, seriously. i whouldent be able to sleep if i knew rats were in my kitchen. do they wake you at night, are they noisy.

I have an older fridge, light quit on me and it's not the bulb.... thanks for the video! Now I have some things to check and try before buying a new refrigerator....it's definitely too old to get parts for I believe, so... worth messing with it as it still gets cold, at least for now I can fumble for the stuff inside and find what I need, amd its at least still cold... lol

Please explain how you removed the light socket assembly panel. I only see one screw but I’m having trouble removing it and I’m afraid to break it trying to take it off.

Just got a new Whirlpool still in warranty. The freezer bulb wouldn’t come on. I checked the bulb in a small lamp and it worked, so wasn’t the bulb itself, my skill level stops there for troubleshooting. (I almost went into a panicky attack given all I just went through with the old unit) I went back to press the white spring switch and no light... getting nervous now. I turned off the “fast cool” feature on the exterior door panel and flicked the switch again with a bit more force, and the light came on! Best part of my day so far! Maybe the switch got a little stuck with ice and needed more force? Maybe the fast cool feature zaps power away temporarily (haven’t read the manual on this feature). I cherish my warranty days and easy fixes while they last. Hope the issue is something as simple as this for anyone reading!

My light switch is clearly defective. It has very little “spring” action to push it into the on position when the fridge door opens. Is it possible to replace the spring inside or should I just get a new switch for the fridge?
Is there any operational relations with bulb ?
In my house freeze light bulb is off but operation also failed .

Try unplugging your freezer refrigerator drator open the light bulb container pull the light bulb out I'll see if it works elsewhere elsewhere other than that there's a prong that touches the hot side of the light bulb when you screw it in inside of the receptacle before you put the light bulb there's that little prong in the very center at the bottom and there's the bottom take that prong and pull it out just a little bit very easy and careful And a lot of times it's not getting proper contact and I found that worked for mine . I already bought a switch so now I have 2 good switches the good switches there are about 40 bucks a piece yes good luck
Instead of Replacing all those wire harnesses, just have that one wire connected outside of the multiplug connector and use a single wire connector next to the multiplug connector. That would be the easiest way to fix that one wire. I suppose though the other wires are probably going to do the same thing too in time.
Good idea, but is this safe? Does the harness do some reassignments between the wires inside it's housing? Or is it just a simple hub for wires, keeping each wire separate?

But how did you remove the light socket/box assembly? I removed the one screw but I don’t see any other and I’m having a hard time taking it out. It feels as if it’s stuck and I don’t want to break it while trying to take it off. You showed it off but didn’t how to take it off. Can you please help?

@@eliannamizrachi3415 Use both your hands and pull the entire assembly really hard towards you. It’s like a key hole assembly. You pull it really hard and it’s slides and unlocks. It took me forever to figure it out but I had no choice because I had a clog and water was leaking into the Refrigerator. Hope it works for you. Let me know how it goes.

My car had bent down bulb contact springs. It caused high resistance resulting in fast clicking as alert and sometimes not working bulbs.

I found the problem in my exact same refrigerator was the receptacle that the light bulb went into I needed to pull out the metal prong because it was not connecting to the white bulb when I screwed it in and that resolved my problem and it didn't cost anything. Of course I did that after I paid for $40 switch and replace the switch and the problem still persisted that would be something you should check 1st.
Question mine was working fine but I seriously played with the button and held it, then it turned off and didn’t turn on anymore, what happened ???

I pulled the switch out and there is no wires at all. Scraped the foam insulation out of the way still nothing? It's a second hand Inglis 28" so I think someone was in there before me and pulled the wires out rendering it unfixable.
What if you can't unplug the fridge? Should I just leave it dark?

Jesus. Christ. I would probably have thrown the fridge in the trash and bought a new one for the 20 hours it would take me to do all that. Kudos to you for saving that fridge light though.
All I did was took a flat head screwdriver or knife to pop the switch out...took a thin piece of plastic...aka one of those grocery food card they give u for ur Keychain cut a small piece of it and stuck it on the tip top as a prop and BOOB it work! Lights on!
That is just the start of problems from looking at the back. Take the doors off and curb it.

I bought LED bulbs for my Samsung fridge. They won't work. Only the incandescent ones work. Why is that?
Most likely cause is the pip at the back of the bulb, on LED bulbs the pip is very shallow, you can raise it by adding some solder to it
Can I just add a bunch of solder to the tip? Till it finally engages.
The gov should force that companie to recall theses fridges for bad ingenering in the protection of circuitry against corrosion.I have too much of a bad temper to do what you do so well.
Video is not helpful for me. I’m stuck trying to remove the box at the top of the fridge. The most important and basic part and you skip over it.

Please don't let your coils get that packed with lint. Clean them quarterly or biannually at a minimum. It kills the cooling ability.
You might want to clean that nasty dust under the fridge.

In the UK you'd have got the fridge replaced as the law says they should work for a lot longer than that.
