Awesome! Thanks for your video. We were considering to buy a new one, but after watching your video we were surprised that the coils were just very dirty. After cleaning them our freezer went back to normal. Saved us money, thank you!!!
Thanks for the inspiration to DIY... Had the cold bottom and warm top, so I ordered the fan. Disassembled freezer to get to the old fan, and boom... the fan blade was wrapped in ice. Removed the ice, got the ice below the coils out, plugged it in and voila - working freezer! I'm sending the new motor back and kicking back to admire my handyman skills. For you Frigidaire owners, it may not be clear that the little plastic thingy on the right rear shelf support has to be rotated 180 degrees before you can slide the shelf far into the side to remove the shelf. When you reinstall, don't forget to flip the thingy once the shelf is back in. Thanks a million!
What about the Thermistor? I have seen on a number of sights that is the most common when you have uneven freezing / part of the freezer (ie the top) is warmer than the bottom and the warning light "high temperature" is on. I replaced the Thermistor and THAT fixed it.
Thank you for the very informative video. Right now, my Kenmore freezer is dripping water on the floor, and the thermostat is saying Hi Temp. in red. Is there anything I could do to fix it? Thanks in advance.
For brushing off the condenser coils sure, unless you plan to deep clean. The electrical components you will need to unplug the refrigerator to repair, otherwise you risk shock to yourself and damage to the new parts and damage to other parts.
This is what made TH-cam so awesome to begin with. Thank you for publishing such awesome content!! I'll buy every part I need from RepairClinic now because of this.
Hello, thank you for the video. Trying to figure out what happened with ours. 4 years old no issues. Went out early today and realized it was warm and lost everything...not too much though. After unplugging it and cleaning it, I plugged it back in and it seems to be fine now. Any idea what would have caused this?
I have an rca rfrf 690 com where when I defrosted it the wire with the electrode was moved and I am still trying to figure out what position to put it in.
Thank you for this video. I replaced the thermistor and the heating element because of the frost forming over the evaporator. After that, it still wasn't freezing properly. Then I watched your video. I just cleaned the coils under the fridge after watching your video. The coils were absolutely covered and blocked from proper airflow. There was a blanket of dog hair and dust. After cleaning everything thoroughly, I now see airflow behind the fridge that wasn't apparent before (I see the tag from the power cable moving). I now know that the heat wasn't able to escape from the coils.
In some checks for continuity you take the part out and in some you test without taking part out and running power. I am wondering if there is a way to do it without there being any concerns for safety
Just unplug the freezer and do the continuity tests, if everything is good there, then check if power is making it to the parts with the unit plugged in. If you don't feel safe doing it, then you should have someone do it for you.
I'm not sure but I think I have the opposite issue here. My upgright freezer (on a frost free freezer) over freezes the coils and then nothing stays cool. and everything starts melting. I've replaced the thermostat but from what i've read it can be the heating element or this Defrost timer that's in the back of the freezer. Your thoughts sir? FYI, everytime I replace the Defrost thermostat it works for about 2 to three months then the same thing happens again.
Check out this video to help you locate the model number, if you still can't find it, you can try to see if you have a manual or warranty paperwork that might have a partial model number on it. www.repairclinic.com/Repair-Library/Model-Number-Help/148/Freezer-How-To-Find-The-Model-Number
For those looking for QUICK a temp fix, you can connect the two wire from the thermostat and then plug the freezer into a timer. 1/2hr on 1hr off if you are not going into it alot
What if nothing is turning on at all? Just the lights inside and green indicator light? I changed the timer and capacitor to the compressor and still nothing
Great help, thanks. You are alright. Trying to help people like me out and you have. Most are common sense answers to common sense problems. Good video, very helpful.
It seems that the abundant and sometimes even borderline-excessive safety warnings in most RepairClinic videos are making up for this one... given that this is for general troubleshooting not specific to any brand or model, the scene at 2:10 could potentially be quite hazardous on other makes/models. Albeit small, there's a risk (especially on larger, older and/or defective systems,) of 1) burns from the compressor body or discharge lines and 2) electric shock from frayed wires or exposed socket connectors.

My small upright freezer was delivered upside down and was kept that way God knows for how long at the vendor’s warehouse (the box was already upside down when the shipping labels were placed). I was told not plug it in for at least 48 hours if it was completely upside down to allow the oil to drain back into the compressor. I did that but the freezer won’t freeze and the compressor rattles badly when it starts or stops. It is a very nice freezer. Last one on Amazon and apparently not coming back.
