    Awesome vid, I'm making plenty g scratch built SW terrain, aiming at making the ship hanger in the death star, Bespin landing pads and interior of one of the towers, Hoth (I have an original ATAT that's busted so to make into terrain) and Tatooine/ Geonosis terrain. This is a really helpful vid, cheers!

    Thank you for this video! I have now downloaded several files and found out my local library has a printer capable of printing all this stuff for FREE! They don't even charge for the plastic!

      Fantastic! Thats great to hear. I forgot to mention in the video that MakerSpaces are also a great way to go to find access to 3d printers and lasers. Great to hear it's working for you!

    Nice video, I haven't had a chance to print out the Imperial Terrain STL files that I bought from him, glad to see that there weren't any problems. Just as a side note, those hills are from Fat Dragon Games.

    I really love that escape pod, I found one on Thingaverse but it's not at that cool angle where it looks like it just crashed. I don't have a 3D printer but I would love to get my hands on one of those escape posds! thanks!

      Hi Rex! Thanks for the comment. The escape pod featured in this video was from Thingiverse. Were you able to locate it?

    • @rskifstad
      @rskifstad 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did find it but you have it printed in such a way that looks like it embedded in ground. That's not how it's shown on Thingaverse. Plus I don't have a 3D printer, I just want to get one.

    • @zaxisoff4631
      @zaxisoff4631  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Try this link. The crashed pod should be listed in the "Files" section. It cuts it off at an angle so that it does look like it crashed, but if I recall right, I did angle it more, but just slightly. I can print you one, if you like, but it likely wouldn't ship until next week. Contact me via my etsy store if you'd like to proceed with this (link in description).

      Oh.. actually, I just checked that Thingiverse file listing and those are non commercial files. So I can't print you one. But, if you scroll through the comments there, to a commenter by name of "Scott Lewis", you might ask him to print you one, as he's the original designer. You could probably contact him through Thingiverse. Or if he's cool with me printing you one, that's an option too, but get his permission first. Thanks!

    Amazing video thanks. Could i just ask what printer do you use and recommend?

    • @zaxisoff4631
      @zaxisoff4631  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      These are printed on a Zortrax M200. However, if I were to recommend a printer, I would probably recommend and Ender. Nothing wrong with a M200 (it's amazing, actually...) but it's also older tech now, and you can get a newer printer for cheaper.

    What printer are you using?
    What material you printed the Turret?

    • @zaxisoff4631
      @zaxisoff4631  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      All models were printed on Zortrax M200 with either Z-ABS (the green models), or PLA (the white models).

      Hi, what resolution did you print the models? 0.2mm? Thanks!

    • @zaxisoff4631
      @zaxisoff4631  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, everything you see there is a mix of PLA or ABS, and all models are printed at .19 (default for Zortrax printer... not .20... but basically the same result).

    What 3D printer is best for someone just starting out at printing terrain?

    • @zaxisoff4631
      @zaxisoff4631  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's a tough one... it really depends on the situation and the kind of commitment you're wanting to put into 3d printing. 3D printing is unquestionably a tinkerer hobby, and it can be time consuming, so you need to determine beforehand just how much time you're willing to put towards the hobby.
      If you need to minimize the amount of time you spend tinkering or learning, look for beginner friendly option that are more plug-n-play. Zortrax, Flashforge, etc. Perhaps even up to a preassembled kit for the Prusa Mk3. Keep in mind this route can be more expensive, and printers such as Zortrax work best with proprietary filament you'll pay more for, as well as a closed software system.
      If you're willing to do some tinkering, and spend some time dialing your printer in, and having to reprint things with different settings isn't a big deal to you, consider a less expensive printer like the CR-10 or CR-10S, or even a smaller printer to learn on (but one less suited to Legion terrain given the build volume) the Ender2.
      Either way you go, keep in mind you're going to have to learn some new software. You might be able to find a decent software profile for your printer that works good, but to get the most out of your printer, you're going to want to spend time online and in experimentation to really learn how to print.
      If I were to buy any printer at this moment, I would buy a Prusa Mk3, as you're getting the best value of just about everything FDM 3d printing has to offer. It prints great, the features are great, the brand is reputable, the cost is reasonable, etc.
      Do your research. Make sure you get a printer with a print volume that can handle the kinds of things you're wanting to print, and remember that the cost of the printer itself ends up being fairly nominal to the cost of items you'll have to buy to support it: Filament runs $18-22/spool for the stuff suitable for terrain and you'll use a LOT. Premium filaments and materials such as flexiable are more expensive. Nozzles, hot ends, glue stick, part replacement, etc. You will exceed the cost of your printer in filament alone within the first year if you do even an average amount of printing.. so plan accordingly.
      Hope that helps.

      Thank you ever so much for the 3D Printer rundown, I've already decided that I'm going to scan and print small-to-medium bits of terrain, and sprues for my own personal use.
      Is there anything else I would need for this?

    • @zaxisoff4631
      @zaxisoff4631  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't know anything about 3d scanning, having never done it before. But for basic printing of terrain I'd say you're going to want a minimum build volume of 6-7 inches (including diagonal). Once you have nailed down what printer(s) you want, join a Facebook group to ask existing users what supplies, extra parts, etc. they recommend to get with the printer to start. A lot of printers will come with a beginner kit of supplies that include things like gloves, print removal tools, snippers, etc. So mostly what you'll need are extra nozzles and filament. However doublecheck what your printer is coming with vs what people who have your printer recommend you start with. Then set aside a weekend to build (if you get a kit), and/or tinker with settings, and start printing!
      It's an awesome hobby! You're going to love it. And true to my previous recommendation, I just bought a Prusa Mk3 :)

    • @VictorSteiner
      @VictorSteiner 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Prusa MK3. Got the Prusa MK2s recommended by someone selling the files and never went regretted it. The MK3 has so many sensors and stuff .... very hard to get that printer to damage itself in an overnight print as many others run the risk of doing
