Train Your Dog to Sit and Lie Down - Solid K9 Training

  • Our second video of the new and improved “how to” series. The down command is probably one of the most important commands you will ever teach your dog. It allows your dog to go places with you and experience life with you. Outdoor cafes, picnics at the park, long car rides-all of these activities require your dog to have a solid and reliable downstay. The down command is probably our most utilized command, as it is absolute essential for dogs who go places with their owners. The effort that goes into teaching dogs foundation work during a board and train is endless. We are doing hundreds and hundreds of reps of commands before ever using the word “no'' with a dog. We spend so much time training your dog to sit and lay down, that most bad behaviours organically go away or are much easier to address once it's time to. We train obedience in many phases and don’t move on to the next stage until the dog tells us it is ready. In this video, you will see us work a dog through every stage of the down command- luring, leash pressure, continuous stim (escape conditioning), and non-compliance stim (avoidance conditioning). You will be able to replicate this exact sequence with your own dog at your own pace in your own home. Teaching dog obedience is not necessarily hard to do, but it is time-consuming and it requires a lot of repetition. We spend seven days a week, all day long patterning these commands with dogs. This video walks you through the stages fairly quickly, but keep in mind a green dog would need much more time on each stage. Pay attention to body language, tone of voice, leash work, food delivery, markers, etc. Our trainers have been doing this for a long time so it may seem like nothing major to them, but every little “conversation” or cue to the dog is all part of the “art” of dog training. We are using a clicker in the video as a marker, but you can also use a word if you prefer. We also are not working on duration right now. That will come much later on in the process. This video is simply teaching the command and getting the dog to understand the remote collar.

    Thank u so much for all the FREE content, Jeff! I would be so lost without you as a first time dog owner. I am thankful I found you shortly after getting my puppy . THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!!! You are hands down my favorite trainer on the internet/TH-cam/everywhere! You have helped so very much, with a realistic approach to me the “owner”. You understand the perspective of me the owner in a way no one else I’ve seen does. I only wish I lived closer to you. Again thanks so much for time and effort put into these awesome videos!

    Thank you Jeff and Brittany!!! Can't thank you enough for these new training videos. Giving us the nuance of each step is helpful beyond anything I've seen on TH-cam. SolidK9 is rocking the dog training videos and TH-cam needs to add hearts instead of just a thumbs up for your work

    Jeff, your videos are awesome! Thank you so much for sharing so much with us in youtube. I’ve been watching you for a while and I tell everyone I know to watch you too. I would love to attend one of your seminars the next time you are in Florida.
    I have trained a number of pet dogs simple commands and manors over the years and I am currently training my first service dog (for myself). She’s a Siberian Husky that came to me at 6 months old with zero training or manors but a natural love to work. I’ve had great success with a prong collar and I am introducing her to the stim collar. I find that I get better results with the vibration than the stim with her. She has most things down pretty nicely but we are still working on a solid down stay. This video is great and I will be applying what I’ve learned here to our training.

    My question is this; how do you train a dog after with Continuous Stim after training with an ecollar for several months for Noncompliance too soon. I skipped this step, my doggo is play driven and resists training for food and treats.

    How do you stop my 2year old Shepherd from barking at other dogs

  • @Sandy33569
    @Sandy33569 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    So I was taught by pressing it as the dog needs it and with each press, saying the command "down" (for example) each time. Do you think this can slow some progress as you provide your dog more freedom? Does the dog tend to learn that it doesn't have to listen the first time? I have noticed my dog learn, anyway, but "heel" has been hard as I keep having to say "heel" over again right now (static commands have improved), but I do find the CS method interesting, and I'm tempted to try it out. I just don't want to mess him up.
    It doesn't seem like you keep repeating the command over and over again as you do it.

    • @keondacook4387
      @keondacook4387 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lilia i was taught that if you teach a word that is to be said more than once, they learn to not comply until the 5th or 6th time youve said it. So instead of saying down, the dog learned down, down,down,down,down.

    Can you clarify the food for training stuff? Does this mean the dogs don’t eat from a bowl during training time so their whole amount of daily food is hand fed?

    • @SolidK9Training
      @SolidK9Training  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lianne Rutty we use the amount of food the dog would eat in a Normal day and use it to train the dog. So the dog wear the same amount but just works for it. This is ok Uber the start until they lean the commands. We do all food and clicker training for all obedience work

      @@robinallison4800 Use a bonker to stop the barking (it works if done properly) or remote collar. See if you can hire a dog walker to come by once a day? That's an unfortunate situation. You can stop the barking though.
