      I didn't know JJ was on the smack as well as Hugh. I saw Hugh's interview in which he talked of Shelley and Byron taking opium and how it gave him the urge from a creative perspective to try some. I can't claim such lofty reasons for trying it. Beyond being a curious sixteen-year-old with no real-life experience. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Hehehe. I survived. We endure.

      Sian Williams wasn't when just JJ and Baz went on Breakfast. She revealed to them that she went to a Stranglers gig when she was twelve years old. JJ was genuinely shocked that her parents allowed her to to that, it seemed to briefly derail him.

      Well said for the first sentence..then downhill from there FondleRoy. The 50-60 somethings were on-board with the Stranglers and made them what they are.. I don't care if they wear bunny slippers and towelling robes now, those people were me and many others like me in the day, with now suburban lives and teen/adult kids. How old are you..17? And yes Hugh Cornwell completed the Stramglers perfectly but he wasn't the whole band. PS: got my hair still and not too fat...

    Firstly - hugely sad to hear about Dave Greenfield's passing yesterday. I recall watching this interview live at the time and it was awkward viewing. For some reason the BBC producers have always tended to short-change viewers and their most legendary guests by shoehorning them into what is essentially a 7 or 8 minute slot between the (local and national) headlines and the end of the programme. The presenters can't be blamed for that but they are more aware than anyone of the time constraints and Naga was wrong to ask the H question Topics like that should be not be just casually thrown out there and the reciprocating telling-off at the end was justified.

    The interview, as already commented on is ... naff. A probable cause being that it was a promotional interview for the new album and tour, but the focus switched back and forth from promotion to reminiscence and when an interesting strand/line of questioning came up, for example the use of heroin in experiments around creativity, the analysis was cut short. As always in these sort of things, not enough time to delve and interviewers without enough background info or time to pick up on the possibly more interesting strands that arise.

      Paul Williams But he’s a very good musician who has bought millions of folks together. And his being French gave that country a certain credence to its people from folks in England who could well have been living with negative stereotypes gained from elders of my country. With JJ B s’ Martial Arts experiences I consider this to be a damn site more positive an influence to young folks than a hell of a lot of the vacuous and stupid celebrities available then and now. If you’re a Military person then I appreciate how his Deserting is seen as Dishonour but he did better than Trump for a start for at least turning up - and he doesn’t try to brainwash many people at being Patriotic when fat arse bigmouths like DT for instance couldn’t hack it for one day . There’s many more in positions of power and influence whom cut far less mustard than The Stranglers’ bass guitarist. ! If JJB nicked your missus then I understand your apparent hatred but otherwise I say give him and the band a break 👍

    What’s the title of the second and fourth songs? oh time flies and my memory as well😔

    • @Awibrahor
      @Awibrahor 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The second song is Skin Deep, from their Aural Sculpture album (1984).
      The fourth song is Golden Brown from their La Folie album (1981). The performance here shown is of a much later date, well after Hugh Cornwell’s 1990 departure from the band. Baz Warne took his place in 2000.

    Very intelligent band and so original…although they clearly took their influences and came up with something unique…Gospel according to is a great album as well

    Too funny , I hate spelling mistakes myself , can't help it ... love JJ . I had hours of hanging around when they came to a little Canadian club for 2 days in the mid 90's . JJ , a personal childhood hero , couldn't have been better . It's been said you never want to meet your heroes etc , with JJ Burnel nothing could be further from the truth . A Top Bloke as they say . All of them , Superb Human Beings & one of the greatest bands ever , HUGE !!

    When they put the names on to say who was speaking, didn't they also get JJ's name wrong? Talk about wrong spellings.

      JJ was like a pipe cleaner in the 70s, all skinny and bendy. All the karate hasn't done much for his figure in later life.
