  • The broken engine will be assembled, resurrected and driven a bit in this part. We'll change the camshafts, hydraulic lifters, make our own gaskets, assemble the OHV mechanism, check if the cams are lubricated properly, change the oil pump driven gear for more robust one, assemble the primary gear and clutch, make a first start, check the engine for leaks after first run, tighten up the bolts a bit and make a first ride.
    TOOLS:
    - motorcycle jack up
    - set of sockets
    - set of hex wrenches
    - torque wrenches big and small
    - hammer, best with plastic handle
    - knife or gasket cleaning tool
    - scissors for gasket creation

    - box for oil to drain the lifters
    - basic syringe
    - drilling machine for turning the oil pump stem
    - slide caliper
    - gloves
    - nerves, a lot
    MATERIAL:
    - set of new camshafts
    - new hydraulic valve lifters
    - new oil pump driven gear
    - paper towels for cleaning
    - technical gasoline or alcohol for cleaning
    - O-rings different sizes
    - gasket paper up to 120°C, 0.4 and 0.8 mm thick

    I have this same bike that I bought last year with 17000 miles. Sweet engine and I love the bike. Definitely worth fixing. Your videos are extremely educational. Thanks!

      Thank you very much and good luck with your bike! The mileage is not really high on yours, it should serve you long and well.

    Just pulled the trigger and bought one dead in a garage. An 01 with 30k on it for a song. Like what I'm seeing here. As an older motorsports guy I've never wrenched on one of these. Thanks for taking the mystery out of it.

    Note about the torque wrench, when it clicks once you don't need to make it click a 2nd time since the 1st click already set ti to the required Nm. 2nd click basically does nothing.
    Fantastic video!

    Another excellent video made by "the man of many words". Am impressed that you used 4mil paper gaskets and got away with it. Might even try that myself in the future. Thanks again.

      Well, thanks. Regarding this too many words - what would you like to have it, or what should be cut away next time? Tnx!

    That was a fun [2 video] series. Lots of "stop n go" to read, but I understand. "Thumbs up" from this Kentucky boy"

    i think i would have tightened those rockers down a little then wait awhile then a little more then wait some more to give the lifter time to bleed down so you don't bend a push rod and the floor boards are on backwards wide part goes forward. you did a good job.

    • @REBUILDLab
      @REBUILDLab  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Good idea with thee rockers and lifters. Yes, the floor boards were switched back like they should have been, wide part in front. Thanks!

    after all that great work, you installed the floorboards reverse :) swap the left to right and right to left. I really enjoyed watching both of the episodes. you worked very precisely and cleanly but I am a huge believer of the torque wrenches, so expected you to use it on the head bolts and crankcase bolts. But other than that , great video. keep up the good work pal!!

    • @REBUILDLab
      @REBUILDLab  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mehmet, did I, can swap them, no prob 😊👍 Didn't expected that to happen 😄 Yeah these tiny torque wrenches...It just doesn't seem to be practical to me...they need to be calibrated etc, one can feel when the tiny bolt is bottomed out. But I certainly will consider do it and thank you for the hint and good words! Have a nice one! 👍

    Great work man 👍🏻😎 love the video! I own one of these bikes and it is amazing 👍🏻 I noticed you didn’t put the spring back on under the clutch arm at the casing ?! Is that okay ? Or should it be put back on? Otherwise keep up the great content ✌🏻

    1. Clutch plates should be bathed in oil for several hours before mounting them.
    2. If the engine doesn't want to rev cold or hot that means carb need adjustments. Bad air/fuel ratio.

      Can be, thanks for the tips.

    Ну вот, посмотрел два твоих видео, вспомнил как делал это раз 6-7 подряд, пытаясь убрать тот самый тикающий звук.
    В принципе, мотор сам по себе громкий, это же воздушник + это не хонда...
    В принципе тебе повезло, что есть в наличии запчасти, у меня вот тоже все норм оказалось - распредвалы живые, не успело их скушать, только гидрокомпенсаторы поменял и все, один начал крошиться.
    По итогу: мотор прикольный, но ресурса не так много, где-то на 150-200 тыс. км. Далее - новый мотор.
    Но надо еще наездить эти тысячи км.....
    Удачи :)

      Rhe spare.parts can be ordered, except you are based simewhere where they do not ship in to. The engine looks cool, runs ok, it is air cooled carb so very straight forward. To run it 200.000 though I can not imagine. The bike is too loud to me, my ears are falling off 🙂 Anyway, good luck with your machine!

      Great to hear that. This bike did 50k with the original weak oil pump... Think they are solid and will hold. Good luck with yours! 👍

    shouldn't new cams be broken by keeping the engine at 2000 rpm for like 15 to 20 minutes, ive read you shouldn't let new cams run at idle

    I have the same bike,work perfectly,exept when I put in fourth gear some strange noise coming from the gearbox.by your opinion what can be the problem?

    • @REBUILDLab
      @REBUILDLab  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No idea, but I did heard about gearbox recall from the factory, if I'm not mistaken. Search for it, if you like.
