    We just purchased the 2023 CRV Sport Touring Hybrid last week. Beautiful, functional, quiet! We test drove Rav4 and Venza. My husband had neck surgery he needs a vehicle that he can easily get into without cranking his head to the side, he's 6 ft tall. The slope of the Toyota windshield made this impossible for him while he can easily get in and out of the CRV. Also we like the handling and general driving experience of the CRV better than the Toyotas mentioned above. I love Toyota, have owned several cars over the years, but we settled on the CRV Hybrid. We were particularly disappointed in the Venza, poor visibility and loud! We thought we were hearing an approaching emergency siren and kept looking around only to roll down the windows and discover it was the Venza. This was a brand new one btw. Nope.

    Another great review Steve. Honda "recommends" 95 Octain again. Look like Honda may no longer be a budget friendly car soon. Yes, the top of line is still a $40K SUV but the mention of premium gas has me concerned. They can refuse warranty repairs because I used 85?

      Regular unleaded is the minimum

  • @davidanderson8469
    @davidanderson8469 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Where's the spare,even a space saver? I'm on my way to Death Valley and out of cell range,get a blowout destroying the rim and tire. No jack,no spare and maybe a tire inflator bottle. I'd buy one in a second but that scenario wold be replaying in my mind constantly. Come'on Honda! Premium gas is 20 cents a gallon more expensive in San Diego at Costco.

  • @robstevens7051
    @robstevens7051 ปีที่แล้ว

    Odd-both the Honda manual and the EPA indicate that the 2023 CR-V uses regular unleaded gas. Am I missing something? Does Honda recommend premium somewhere?

    I was considering one until I found out no spare. No spare tire, no buy. Tire kit won’t help if tire has puncture of a large size. It has happed to me. America is too dangerous to ride and get stuff waiting for a tow truck. Can happen.

  • @gwapogreg5837
    @gwapogreg5837 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Your reviews are the best but this CRV needs better fuel economy better 0 to 60 and less weight and a spare tire all that could have been achieved by an electric all wheel drive system in the back and batter under the massive rear seating.Also whats the deal with the i phone size touchscreen only Mazda has a smaller one.

    2023 CRV Hybrid user manual says 87 octane or higher. Not sure where the recommended premium is coming from.

    • @schedvi
      @schedvi ปีที่แล้ว

      91 octane recommended? How come no other reviews mention this? The increased price for 91 octane could potentially negate the cost savings of the hybrid system. I have seen quite a few people commenting that their new 2023 CRV’s are not getting anywhere near the claimed MPG’s. I’m now starting to wonder if it’s because they aren’t using 91 octane…

    • @stevehammes
      @stevehammes  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@schedvi Maybe they didn’t do their homework? Don’t know. But it won’t negate anything if you don’t use it. Again, it is recommended and not required. As you can see from the link I posted Honda does not quote separate figures for power based on octane.

    • @schedvi
      @schedvi ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I currently drive an ‘07 CRV, and after 16 trouble-free years I am ready to gift it to my son and get a new one. I am very close to purchasing the 2023 touring hybrid. Although I don’t mind that the new CRV doesn’t have a spare, I do tend to store quite a bit of stuff in the extra space surrounding the spare tire in my current CRV (jumper cables, tool kit, flashlight, etc). It’s a bummer that the new CRV’s don’t have anywhere to store stuff out of the way.

    • @rajeshrd16
      @rajeshrd16 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stevehammes This isn't correct. The original CRV 2023 specs just mentioned that 87 octane fuel or higher is required.

    The MDX DNA is very clear. So much for that Acura exclusive platform BS.

    • @almassengale
      @almassengale ปีที่แล้ว

      Honda has never claimed that. They are very open about the fact that the MDX and Pilot are on the same platform. That isn't unique to them. The Toyota TNGA platform underpins many Lexus and Toyota models. Audi and VW share platforms as well.

    • @MercOne
      @MercOne ปีที่แล้ว

      @@almassengale Uh yes Acura did say that. Where have you been? Go back and read the MDX reviews when the new one came out. Yeah I know what the Asians do with their platforms so no need to tell me.

    • @alexmassengale433
      @alexmassengale433 ปีที่แล้ว

      The MDX was the first vehicle on that new platform but anyone who follows the car industry knew the next Pilot would share that platform.

    The rear wheels are not "electrically assisted". Y'all car reviewers need to get your info straight. :P
    Owner's Manual also calls for 87 octane or higher. It just says "TOP TIER detergent gasoline where available". No contradiction in the 87 octane rating there.
    At least you didn't say the "engine is there to charge the battery!"

    • @stevehammes
      @stevehammes  ปีที่แล้ว

      Poor Matt. You need to read comments especially concerning the octane. I’ve been over this 1000 times I even put a link in there to where Honda calls for high octane in its press kit. Gotta do your homework, sir.
      Real Time AWD combines the conventional front-wheel-drive system with a compact transfer case that distributes torque via driveshaft to the rear drive assembly. The multi-plate clutch connects the driveshaft to the rear differential which is managed by an electric motor driving a hydraulic pump.
      The Intelligent Control System activates the electric motor to actively apportion power based on road conditions, preemptively minimizing wheel spin before it happens by sending power to the rear wheels. The electric motor activating the hydraulic pump idles when not required, reducing drag within the system.
