Good morning, I'm watching this video on my own on a TV. Well... my 9 month old daughter just decided to wake up. So I guess I'm not watching alone anymore 🤔
Great shots Ben! And I watch most YT on my laptop, alone. Shocked you managed to get a successful focus stack on a flower outside as even a fractional breeze will scupper you. I've never managed to use it with success outdoors on natural subjects. Obviously my locations are much windier!
Thanks Gordon, I did say I managed it :-) 30 shots all without movement, the R8 can shoot 30 frames a second though….I am surprised that I managed to make an in focus video at 100mm more than anything!
Madness. You smashed it yet again. Genuinely, find the bells soooo hard. Thanks for kicking me to try again this year… your first macro shot, in particular, blows me away 💥
Nice shots Ben. I find it quite hard to get good shots so your video gives some useful composition ideas. I always watch alone - either on laptop or phone.
Alone. Even when I wasn’t alone, I still watched YT alone. I don’t thinks about it as viewing alone though, as I know content isn’t being made specifically for me, & I doubt it’s healthy to feed into anyone who might believe that’s the case.
I enjoy using the 70-200 when out in a bluebell wood. If I think the video will have content in it worth viewing on a large TV (such as many photography videos) then I’ll cast to my TV when the rest of the family are using their own devices. Otherwise I’ll watch on my iPad.
Thanks Andy, I specifically post my videos at the same time every other Sunday so that if anyone does watch my videos on their TV for example, they know that it will be ready for them at the end of the weekend, whereas if I posted them randomly more people would watch when it is convenient and perhaps on mobile devices. My YT stats suggests that most people watch my videos on a Sunday when they are released.
I believe the in camera focus stacking still has each individual RAW file available to you that you could stack yourself in photoshop/helicon etc, after the fact. Great video! I am almost always watching alone.
Cheers Travis, there are quite a few others recommending that I try to stack the raw files also (which I have) the memory card fills up fast, I took 30 frames for each image, its probably quite draining on the battery also!
Hi Ben, whether it's on the computer, phone or TV, I am 99.5% alone, enjoyed the video and I can only imagine what it was like filming with a 100mm lens, definitely a learning curve.
Hehe, gotta love the mischievousness there. "I'm traveling really light! Just one camera, one lens, and noooo bag. It's *awesome*! Oh, and there's the suc ... er FRIEND I convinced to join me on this adventure with their full kit in their pack!" ;) It's always good to have a Plan B ^_^
I wish the TH-cam algorithm would count every set of eyes watching my videos, but unfortunately not. Quite a few cats watching my videos, they must like my content, no dogs subscribing though…
Went out with my Canon EF 100mm f2.8L IS adapted to my Sony camera today after watching this video. Great for portraits. Like of course I would normally use my 85 f1.4 but still, interesting experience.
A bit of both. Usually I watch most videos alone, but when the wife and I go to bed, we watch a video or two, usually of other photographers, but actually we indeed have watched a few of your videos together. Btw, if you do your focusstacking in Lightroom (by "edit as layers in Photoshop", autoalign, autostack, flatten) you'll get a DNG.
I take is that the misses is into photography also? My wife and I watch completely opposite content and she is soooo not interested in my landscape photography. Good to know that LR stacks images, I have done it in PS previously, but experimenting with in camera at the moment.
The English bluebells look very different from the ones on the Midwest on this side of the pond. The 100mm vlog is quite stylish, which mean is has to be a pain, right? Nice job on the images. Since you asked, it's just me and the laptop watching the videos.
Thank you Sarah, I have linked to Louise’s video at the end of the video - but what I am learning is that sometimes devices such as TV’s don’t show links the same as they do on PC/tablet/Phone or perhaps there were adverts at the end. Look up Louise Welcome Photography and you will find her :-)
Lone watcher here Ben, tend to catch you when I am on my iMac but sometimes, iPad or phone if I'm away from home and you release a video. Next time we chat, would like to ask a few questions about the R8 as you've piqued my interest
Hi Ben just me and the cat watching he’s hoping a mouse might pop out from the bluebells 😂 my camera doesn’t focus stack in camera but does produce the images to focus stack, so do that after in PS which means you can choose which to include and as Gordon says eliminate any if there was any wind. Perhaps you can extract the raw files from your camera which made up the composite image?
I have saved the original raw files, so I might see what the difference is between in camera and a PS or LR stacked images. Maybe I could get a trial of Helicon focus to see what specialist software brings to the table also.
The thing with addressing your audience in singular or plural is a bit of a paint point for me. You created the video not just for me, but published it for everyone, that is how TH-cam works and i just happen to be watching it. The singular form seems to just intensify the para-social relationship aspect of all this which i don't necessarily think is something positive. I even had that in gym class where the trainer addressed a room full of people in the singular form and i feel like they think i am stupid and forget that I'm in a room full of people just because is focus on my workout.
That is a very valid point, I would be disappointed if my video only got one view! I think i will subconsciously slip into ‘good morning everyone’ in future videos, but I thought it was an interesting topic for discussion.
I also watch you and your photography partner I do forget her name and I forget your name as well so it is what it is my mind is just not meant for names
I am completely alone watching this Now I have done 135mm prime fully manual On a Pentax K1 Mark II And also the same lens on a Pentax k01 So far the Pentax k01 produced a better photos with my 135mm prime lens But I will find out later in the fall when I go back and take the same photograph with the K1 Mark II
I couldn’t stand teh thought of filming myself at 135mm, the 100mm was hard enough! I have a 135 F2 which is amazing for stills though. I mainly shoot portraits with it though, although I have shot a few landscapes with it when I wanted to travel a bit lighter.
Single watcher here as I imagine most viewers of TH-cam are. Focus stacking. I shoot Olympus/OM System and we get a combined jpg plus all the RAW files that make it. I take the RAW files in Zerene Stacker and can choose which ones I want to use. This way I can have sharpness where I want it plus the blurred BG.
Thanks Mark, I should have stacked the raw files and seen what the difference is between that and the JPEG that the camera created. I don’t have any specialist stacking software, as I rarely stack images. I think I will if I get more into it.
It’s not the look that I was going for, you can, but I didn’t take any lighting/flash with me. I am always seeking backlit or sidelit subjects to give them ‘three-dimensionality’.
@@benharveyphotography I have used off-camera studio flash )but speedlights would do as well). It can do a decent impression of sunlight and I had good control over its direction. It was daytime, and I positioned it to supplement the sun, I had no wish to overpower it (that requires HSS). I often use the little Olympus speedlight on the camera, and I see peacock spider botherers crawling around with softboxes on their cameras.
None amongst my family would be interested in watching the TH-camrs I follow. Besides, I live alone. Most popular == easiest == most boring. I would have ignored the poll and gone with 16mm. My fisheye would be more interesting.
Shooting the video and stills at 16mm would have been easy, trust me (I have a 16mm prime challenge video coming soon on my channel - already filmed but not yet edited). The 100mm was more of a challenge, and I am giving the viewers what they asked for but sticking with the poll.
@@benharveyphotography I have TS-E 17. Getting close and personal with that would make for some interesting and different photographs. I have also used it for a full-body self portrait.

@@benharveyphotography tell me it was from a tripod, right?
@cameralabs of course - nothing but perfect technique, as expected. 2 sec timer, tripod.
It is generally recommended to use a tele (70-200 or more) as you cannot step onto the plants
It’s a good point, especially if the subject is in the middle of the plants, you sometimes need a longer lens to fill the frame.
Madness. You smashed it yet again. Genuinely, find the bells soooo hard. Thanks for kicking me to try again this year… your first macro shot, in particular, blows me away 💥
Thanks Louise, for sharing these adventures and not laughing at me too much when trying to film myself from 10 metres away!
On my own with my dog usually, on the big TV today as hubby is on a trip run!
Thank you Jayne, the TH-cam Algorithm should count that as two views if the dog is watching also :-)
Nice shots Ben. I find it quite hard to get good shots so your video gives some useful composition ideas. I always watch alone - either on laptop or phone.

For in body photo sacking you might want to try the D850
I cant switch brands now, I have too many lenses! I head out with other photographers who shoot with the D850 and it has a reassuring shutter sound.

Hi Ben, thank you for another amazing video. I'm watching your videos alone but I love sharing them to my friends and family :)
Thank you for sharing my videos :-)

Secretly I had a drone, two cameras, a coffee, a meal deal and a bag of Haribio tucked into her bag when she wasn’t looking. haha.
I'm watching this alone, unless... You count my cat!

Watching alone here !

I have shot that combo as well, on the Sigma MC-11 adaptor. I am amazed at the different ‘look’ that I get from the same lens on a Canon vs Sony.

Thanks Brian, I would need a camera person if I wanted to do this on every video, it is very hard work! But a challenge, which was the point!
