    The story has it that his song "If I Can Dream" was a tribute to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Supposedly, he was told not to sing this song during this performance, but he did anyway and you can see his passion. This would be a good choice for your next Elvis song.

    • @Seanryan2001
      @Seanryan2001 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Elvis was really effected by the murder of MLK in his home town of Memphis. He wanted to end the 1968 Special with a message song to reflect the times of that year and got songwriter Walter Earl Brown to write the song. Brown used MLK 1963 'I had a dream' speech to create the right song. When Elvis listened to the demo he knew THAT was the song to end the TV Special. His manager Colonel Parker didn't want Elvis to record the song for its political content but Elvis for once, overruled The Colonel.

    This was from his 1968 TV comeback special which was a huge success and I watched as a then 18 year old. His final Song in the special if you want to listen to it was If I can Dream. He was so effected by MLK's and two months later Robert F Kennedy both assassinated that year. A song was written for him to honor MLK, you can see and hear the emotion in this song. His Manager and the producers didn't want him to do the song on TV, but he insisted which in those times was a brave thing to do.

    Even sitting down Elvis couldn't be still and could make the girls scream. Of course, I've seen that happen with just a lip curl or finger twitch from him too...lol.

      There's a video of rehearsal of the song Fever for the Aloha from Hawaii special. He moves one shoulder and the girls scream. So he moves a knee and they scream louder. You can see him get tickled by it, like he really can't quite believe it, but is having a good time with it. Fun to watch. And, as always, great vocals.

    I believe this is the greatest single off the cuff vocal and guitar performance by a male, we are going to see by anyone, ever. No lip synching, no auto - tune; and only 1960s technology. Not to mention, damn he was about the best man to ever live in his prime. lol

    This was Elvis first performance live after having to go into exile for 10 years making Hollywood. Remember watching this when this was first introduced. It was a milestone. It was the first unplugged live performance in history!

    Back in my day, You got "Paradise by the Dashboard light" just by taking her to see Elvis. Next from Meatloaf "Two Out Of Three Aint Bad" Then there is The Raspberries two Hits "I wanna be with you" and "Go all the way." The music is great and I wonder what happened to them. Yes all of this is the same juvenile subject but the music is great.

    Catch the lyrics here....."Lord above He knows I love you, It was He who brought me thorugh..........
    ,when my way was dark at nite it was shining like a light, while I was trying to get back to you"
    Fabulous song by Elvis. Not rock and roll, but more blues with a lot of soul.
    Thanks for the upload you guys. Great choice
