      Routine stuff to be honest, most of the cost and work goes into the ground!

    I think I read somewhere that the rebar should not be resting on the ground due to possible contamination, rust etc and that it should be raised up with some form of spacers. Not sure if am right though. Any ideas? Loving ya videos.

    Hi Chris, good to see you putting these videos out. Some friendly feedback, it would be great to hear a few more comments about the specific details for example, what the existing footing type is compared to why you chose 'trench fill'. I did wonder if building control needed to know the thickness of the existing foundation which i dont think was mentioned. Great videos, keep them coming!

    • @foundationgood123
      @foundationgood123  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I chose trench fill, saved me loads of back ache and isn't much difference price wise

    Great video Chris. Question about the yellow gas main running parallel with the strip foundation. Do you just encase it in concrete? I'm thinking of future issues or maintenance later on?

    • @foundationgood123
      @foundationgood123  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Possibly need to put lintels over it and carry on building

    Chris, you mention under pinning, I would like to extend up on top of my garage. If the foundation isn't there will under pinning be needed or pulling down the garage and starting from scratch be needed?

    • @foundationgood123
      @foundationgood123  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You will need a fnd in my opinion underpinning is very costly I prefer to knock down if it's not a massive wall and do a proper FND

  • @wayneroddis-clarke7659

    As a none builder I thought I had read some where that the new foundations had to come up to the top of the existing foundations? Is this not the case? I'm planning an extension of my house, and the top of the existing foundation is low down (similar to what you have there) (floating timber floors in house 1960's) this will save me some cash if I don't have to dig down as much as I thought. Would appreciate your views.

    • @foundationgood123
      @foundationgood123  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I chose to trench fill the fnd but you can go the the existing concrete fnd level

    great video, for jobs like this and small extensions, do you work with full building reg plans or building notice?

      @@foundationgood123 Great Video Chris. For the gas service pipe, did you simply dig to see where it was then ask the Gas company to cap it off and re-route so it won't be built over?

    I wouldn't have thought that wrapping copper wire round the bars would be strong enough, but then I'm no builder.

    • @foundationgood123
      @foundationgood123  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its to keep the bars together until concrete is poured over them

  • @Jim_Newlands

    How the hell do you manage to get jobs where you can get the concrete wagon right up to the foundation! Every one of my jobs seems to involve miles of barrowing. 😣

    • @foundationgood123
      @foundationgood123  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not always, I've done my share of tipping it up on Visqueen and barrowing it as fast as you can😭

    Dont worry about where the garage door was. What you're doing won't make any difference to that

  • @alokhan9467
    @alokhan9467 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Strip will continue under where garage door was for strength of footing and ease of digging
