What's your favorite trail/all-mountain tire setup?
Michelin DH 22 and DH 16 rode them for a season and they are way better than Maxxis Assegai, Minion.
Magic Mary Ultra Soft front / Hans Dampf Soft rear 👌
Maxxis Forekaster and Rekon. Better rolling resistance and plenty of grip.
I think it's weird that bike tires cost as much as low-end car tires, but don't last anywhere near as long as those cheap car tires do.
Yeah, a lot of tires definitely aren't cheap these days, but there are a lot of good affordable options out there. Definitely check out Specialized tires, they're surprisingly affordable and ride great. We have a link to some in the description.
To answer a bit of the question weight does have a huge traction advantage if bicycle tires had the same hardness, durable, compound (some city bikes have) you find on cars and motorcycles you wouldn't have traction because you're not applying enough pressure grip...
@@jensonusabicycles it would be interesting if you have access to that info to know where and by who specialized tires are made they struck some exclusive deal with a Japanese motorcycle and utility tire manufacturer I wonder if that's still true...
Living in the past with 26in is one thing, my man over here never left high school with the scene kid phase haha respect
my boy alex never left 2004 i see
🎶"where are you?"🎶
You can catch him at your local Southern CA emo night show 9 times out of 10. One of the very few people I know who isn't afraid to be themselves 24/7 with not a care in the world of what others think.
I still dress like a 1998 skater boy at 42. My kids aren't crazy about it 😂
I haven't tried the new Continentals yet, but I'm loving my current set up: Maxxis Assagai EXO+ 2.5 MaxxTerra up front and a Schwalbe Hans Dampf 2.6 SuperTrail in the Speedgrip out back.
Front is perfectly dialed in, back is a little looser and bouncy fun.
Big fan of the Maxxis Assegai! Have had them on multiple bikes, will be planning on trying other brands!
My bike came stock with ardent race front and rear, front tire kept sliding out so i put a dissector up front, i love it. My old 26er bike has purgatory front ground control rear and i love that combo as well
Excellent video!
You cant go wrong with any of those choices really. Solid combos!
Nice work dudes. I do max grip DH casing front and rear. I am on a freeride e bike. Alex hope to see you at Summit again.
Man. Now I need new tires. Very educational thank you. 👊🏽
for years Ive used Holy Rollers on my city mtb trail bike & Tigoa DH on my trail only mtb here in dry desert sandy rocky Dallas trails
I think you got the casing thread count backwards. 120 TPI is softer and more supple than 60 TPI.
You're definitely correct, that was a mistake. Thanks for not throwing a fit about it here in the comment section!
The kryptotal was my vote. Love those tires.
Ive had the butcher eliminator combo and have been very impressed.
Solid combo at an affordable price! Thanks for the comment!
I'm using the eliminator (I've butchered the butcher though) and i am highly impressed! They came stock on my Stumpjumper and my initial thoughts were that they weren't going to be good. I'm glad i was wrong.
I might continue with this combo since it doesn't cost as much as other brands, they have loads of grip, they're predictable and they get the job done.
We don't think we've heard a single complaint from a single person who has tried Specialized tires and for how affordable they are, it's even more impressive. Thanks for the comment!
Nobby Nic's for me I like to run all round so I can throw a little bit of everything at it, and having a balance of grip + longevity is perfect.
Can't go wrong with some Schwalbe's! Everyone I know who runs them are pleased! Thanks for the comment, Daniel.
Higher thread count/TPI is stiffer? I think you got that backwards.
What do you think of Eliminator t9 2.6f with a t9/t7 2.6r(hardtail)?
They'll do the job really well at an affordable cost. Hardtails already pedal nicely so having a wider 2.6 won't be too brutal, just have to make sure your frame will allow it.
Butcher T9/Eliminator T7 are so good. I swapped from DHF/Aggressor and have no desire to go back.
I totally agree
when will the hr3 be availabe?
I'm personally not really sure, to be honest. Even though it's supposedly still a prototype tire, I know they're openly talking about it and using the HR3 name now so we can't be too far away.
Yeah I think Dak accidentally let it slip out in b practice podcast then tried to backpedal and call it the “intermediate” tire.
@@nathantoney.1501 I think I heard Brosnan (I could be wrong on it being him) call it an HR3 in a vlog from Poland and he didn't even try to hide it. We shouldn't be too long off from public release.
I just switched from Assegai/DHR combo to Kryptotals front and rear. My main takes on them so far. The Kryptotals roll noticeably faster, the Kryptotal rear is the best rear tire I've ever run, the Kryptotal front is good, but I won't say it's necessarily better than the Assegai, but it isn't worse than the Assegai either. The other thing I've noticed is the Contis seem to prefer about 3psi lower tire pressures than Maxxis as their casings are quite stiff. I'm running DH/Super Soft front and DH/Soft rear on my Kryptotals.
Thanks for this comment! I've been considering trying the Kryptotal's, but it's a gamble. I trust and love the Assegai up front and DHR II in the rear so it's hard to commit to trying something new that I might not end up liking. Good to hear from someone who swapped and really likes the change!
Damn Alex looks like the lead singer of a emo boy band.
why does everyone over complicate tires?
Because it's your main point of contact with the ground. They can have a huge effect on your riding enjoyment. It's nice having tires that don't wash out on loose corners and hold their line through tech, and not constantly getting flats. Or if you're more XC inclined, tires that don't feel like you attached a boat anchor to your bike.
@@mrvwbug4423 That's fine, but the idea of having one fast-rolling tire on your bike increasing your speed is ludicrous, you'll only be as fast as your slowest rolling tire.
@@barfo281 That would be an oversimplification. On downhills a grippier tire can be faster by virtue of more grip and having to brake less and later.
haha. some of those are ok. you didnt even describe the perfection that is 2.6 mazza in front, 2.4 mazza in back.
They don't sell Vittoria. I agree that the Mazza is a great front tire, but I've also heard their casings are a bit weak despite them being even heavier than Maxxis.
@@mrvwbug4423 We actually do sell Vittoria: www.jensonusa.com/Vittoria
Uhh why does the video say the Assegai is a 29x2.4 when it's 2.5 and why does it say the kryptotal is 2.3 when it's 2.4
..come on yall
Copy and pasted graphic across all of the tires that I missed during the edit. I had to rush export the video before heading out of town for a riding trip.
Dude, it looks like he just left the set of fast and the furious, tokyo drift.
the snot hanging from your nose doesn't look good.
Pretty cool judging and making fun of people you don't even know from the comfort of online anonymity. Do better.
