I was looking for this Disney intro and was beginning to think my 7 year old self was mistaken. I was sure the song said “carousel of color,” and I finally found the original version I remember. After 63 years (I’m 70, now), I worried that my mind wasn’t reliable for deep childhood memories. Thanks!
Thanks for posting. We had a black and white set until June of '68. My aunt bought a Motorola color television in December of '64. It was always a treat to go over my aunts house to watch the shows in color on holidays and special occasions and this show was one of them. I see this and I'm a little kid again plopping myself in front of her color set.
My searching brought me here. It's not what I was expecting. But this is sung by the "Wellingtons," who sang the first season theme song for "Gilligan's Island." Hard to imagine that they were also known as "the Mosquitoes!"😂
Thanks for posting. Got to watch this show occasionally at my Great Uncle's mansion in Bell Gardens (Woodward House). In 1960, he was the only one we knew with color TV. My family finally busted down and bought a 25" Zenith Color TV in 1967. All the kids in my neighborhood packed into our smallish family room that summer for WDWWOC every Sunday night. It was nice being popular for a while, but a "Keeping Up With the Joneses" phenomenon swept the neighborhood and by the time school started in September, all the families on our street had color TV.
Ahh...The memories. Now THATS classic television. Won't ever see shows like that again. One good thing though, we've got You-Tube to re-live the memories anytime we want.
I remember the first thing I saw on our first color TV. It was an Axion (defunct laundry detergent brand) commercial. It took us until the early 1970s to get a color TV.
I think Professor owl should know that the only Disney movie with both colors and music is Fantasia. On the anniversary of the movie, I"ll explain to him.
I believe it was a group called The Wellingtons. It was indeed in color. That was the whole reason that the show title and theme song changed. Color television was brand new. Everything had been black and white before that. NBC was the first to have color programming..
@Mycosyco1 The only ones that were watching this in black and white were the people who had not gotten a color television yet. My Dad had to get one right away so we were lucky enough to see this in color.
Ah, yes... "The Wonderful World of Color". That's the version I grew up with. (though, as I remember it, until my family got a color TV, it seemed a bit odd on a black & white TV!)
Everything on the program that both Walt Disney and Professor Ludwig von Drake speak about is very pretty. But I love the program on the show that these 2 hosts were on and it's one of my favorite Disney movies even though it's educational and for Walt Disney it's called Donald in mathmagicland because it came out in the same year as Sleeping Beauty.
@GOOSEYGOOSE9 NBC has a peacock for it logo. I do not know about the snake. I do believe that just before you saw this opening theme you would have seen the NBC peacock and would have heard, "The following program is brought to you in living color, on NBC".
Yeah, the snake was like the letters "N" and "B" and "C", moving around to form "NBC" (with the "C" below the "NB"). I thought it was a cool effect as a kid (that and the peacock spreading it's colored feathers!). I'm sure I've seen it somewhere here on TH-cam -- maybe under "NBC Logos" or something.

Pretty awesome to know my great uncle is one of the ones singing! Love you Uncle George!

Great Memories!!!
Back when television was Great! Make television great again! MTVGA
what a genius piece! There was only one Buddy Baker and there never will be another! Listen to those glorious voices at the end !
Found this thru it being sampled on “Colours” by the Avalanche’s. Wonderful.

we got a color set in the early sixties - 25" we were all glued to it.
easy to see the influence of these visuals on later animated works

@RetroToledo We were lucky and it was very exciting. Life was so simple back then.

we didn't get a color set until 1973 and it was a used one.
Is this longer version on any of Walt Disney's Treasure dvd's?

The new song debut in 1968 after Disney's death in 1966.
@LoreneFaith You were lucky at least. My parents probably wished their folks were rich to get a color set when this show aired!
It's funny to me to think almost everyone watching this were watching it in black and white.
@RetroToledo Amen to that!
...audio synchronization further and further off as this progresses...compare to original on Vault Disney.
@101Anakin1 So true! They won't even give us a CLASSIC Disney channel so we can watch the old stuff.
A "Vault Disney" channel would be wildly successful.
@101Anakin1 So true!
@LoreneFaith That's how I would rather like to live!
I just turned 6...
