Joy was so iconic, and yes I remember the "most expensive in the world" positioning. If you had Joy, it was like hearing you had a Bentley or a Rolls Royce.
You speak so beautifully on perfume. I am eager to learn the language of this world, i just picked up a vintage bottle of emeraude. Down the rabbit hole! ❤
Must admit vintage now is well over 75% of my collection. Mainly because I want the fragrances of my youth and memory. I wore First as a teen and young 20’s girl. Truly a great perfume. Never felt old or baroque or too much as so many people say. Still love it now. Chanel 19 is very blah now which makes me sad. Hence the eBay hunt for older bottles! Lovely to see you back.
My Mum wore 19 and she says current bottles don't smell the same! :((( It is very sad. I haven't smelt older formulations but would loooove to! She also wore First!
Fab video! I have quite a few vintages, Shalimar cologne in the white zig zag box, vintage Femme, jardins de bagatelle, heritage, Diorella, no 5. Always enjoy your videos. Xxx
I had limited access to perfumes in my youth, in my country, still my mom had some and me a few. The past 6 yrs I became obsessed with perfumes, and managed to get some vintage, or "old version", or discontinued perfumes. I enjoyed this video!
My Grandmother Joy was a bitch. But she wore the fragrance my mother gave her. I hated the fragrance for years because I associated it with my grandmother and with the horrible way she treated people, especially with the way she treated my mother. I did get over my hatred of the fragrance because my feelings toward my grandmother gradually drifted towards indifference. I can give the scent the love it deserves. I am happy you can associate your wonderful grandmother with this gorgeous scent.
Thank you for sharing and sorry to hear about the experiences with your grandmother. Associations are huge on how we feel about a scent. Xo Sam @@catherinelynnfraser2001
I love how you explained the vintage perfumes in this video! Very dramatic with the velvet gloves caressing these vintage bottles! I much prefer the vintage perfumes they perform much better and last longer! One of my favorites is Tabu and Bal of Versailles! Catch up with you later darling have to go edit another video Pink Champagne Kisses 💋💋💋💋💋💋🍾🥂
Thank you! What a fun video. Would you consider a video on dabber bottles? How to apply, the variety of dabber shapes/materials, how they differ from vintage to modern? I’d love to learn! Have a lovely day!
In my perfume journey, I have collected many vintage fragrances. I love their histories almost as much as the juice. Your descriptions are spot on! I feel like Y was the gateway into fragrances like Cristalle and Diorella. Le Parfum de Therese also has a bit of the same DNA as Y. Thank you for championing vintage fragrances. ❤
Vintage poison was my mother’s signature scent (along with Diorella) so we have 6+ bottles at home 😂. She said she wore that to her work/office bc back then ladies really did competing each others with their strong perfumes
I remember seeing White Shoulders cologne and her powder puff case on my grandmother’s dresser. I found a big dabber or splash bottle at TJ Max years ago and added it to my collection. It smells very similar… floral , powdery, aldehydic. It seemed more powdery and vanilla on her dresser. It was originally launched in 1945. I see it in drug stores a lot in smaller bottles.
My mother in law has a bottle of Joy on her dresser. I'm sure it's an older bottle as she is 92. I will test it out. My favorite from Caron is Aimez Moi. Thanks for sharing your gems.
I have a small vintage bottle of Femme de Rochas and it's a warm mix of fruits, spices and animalic notes, then I bought the current formula which it's very similar to my nose, a reformulation made by Olivier Cresp, and I love it! I have First and Caleche as well, and love them both! I find that vintage perfumes are more deep and somewhat non-apologetic, and it's wonderful to experience them!
Hi I had a vintage bottle of MAGIE NOIRE from Lancôme it’s quite strong, it’s new still in original box with only a few squirts gone. Enjoyed your video. 😊
Stunning ❤ I own a third full bottle of DIVA by Ungaro from a flea market for 10 Euro 😅 Still gorgeous! And a MISS DIOR from the 60ies, A LA NUIT by Paco Rabanne in the first batch. Also MA GRIFFE by Carven as a present, SAFARI by Ralph Lauren in a 90ies version. Smelled the original POISON by Dior from a friend and understand totally why it was a hit in the 80ies... I nearly was crying about this beauty. Love the vintage things always more than the contemporary ones 😢
I LOVED this. I’m not a vintage collector… just happen to have some old perfumes lol. Bring the drama! I’m here for it. I also loved hearing how you have flings with your perfumes. I always wondered how you go through bottles so relatively quickly. I’m always rotating and never go through anything. I’m inspired
Wonderful video, Sam!! I am *emerald green* with envy that you have the original Addict! My husband got it for me in 2003 for our 3rd Anni and we both adored it. It was "Our Scent". It was used it up by 2005 but I wasn't in a position to repurchase. When I tried to purchase it later, the spark was gone. I couldn't figure out what happened, but now that I'm a YT fragaholic, I realize that reformulation is a thing. Giant Bummer. 😩 I do have a bottle of the current edition and I love it but nowhere near my Addict 2002. Enjoy it!!
What a magnificent collection of vintages. YSL Y is underrated among classic vintages, overshadowed by far more hyped iconic chypres. I am still seeking out a bottle of Myrrh Ardente. Since its been discontinued for a while, it is far more scarce than the others in the AG Les Orientaistes series. Nuit Etoilee is magical, it always makes me nostalgic for childhood. Tabac Blond, Farnesiana, be still my heart... 🤩 I must correct you on Jean Desprez though, had a number of releases, including the spellbinding opoponax-heavy Sheherezade, the men's flanker Versailles Pour Homme, and the highly coveted 40 Love. However, Bal a Versailles indeed was their one immense commercial success and the only release still in production today.
Love your presentation of them with the gloves 🥰 I only have Nuit étoilée and Dior addict in their current version. I also found similarities between Dior addict and a Guerlain fragrance, but that's Joyeuse Tubéreuse for me (and they share the same nose).
Loved this video and your collection. I remember when I was studying and working as an au pair in Paris - must have been the year poison came out or was still quite new - I went to pick up my charge from school and as the mothers gathered to wait for their children clouds of Poison rose above the schoolground. Eighties perfumes were something else.
What a treat. Y was my s as signature scent for a wile as well as Bal a Versailles. I just recently purchased the small bottle (what memories). Worth is my next find that was another t signature of mine. Thank you again. 🕊
Hi, just a while ago I wore Diorella on a weekend, the minute we sat on the table inside a crowded restuarant I got a compliment from a stranger...this is a compliment magnet. YSL Opium EDT (this is a Big fragrance) but I wear it occassionally and get lots of compliments.
Oooh how I loved this video! It makes me want to go out and hunt down some vintages (although not so much the aldehydey ones). I also loved how you stroked those bottles, especially the Caron Poivre, it was like it was your most loved pet ❤
Thank you for your vintage collection tour! I am a vintage perfume collector from way back and having smelled or currently own the perfumes you talk about, I agree whole heartedly! I do have other newer and niche perfumes but vintage is my passion and I love it when younger perfume collectors can appreciate older fragrances. There is so much to discover in these gems. oxJulia
I AM a vintage collector/enjoyer; I am blessed to have many on this list, but definitely need to acquire the remainder…the Annick Goutal has been eluding me FOR. YEARS. It’s just gone and this makes me soooo sad.
Loved how you presented these …your explanation of when they were created, by whom, their uniqueness, etc & the way you rotated each of the bottles so lovingly in your gloved hands🌹 very well done!
You made me rediscover Nr.19. My mom used to have and didn't like it at all. Even my mom didn't actually , found it too mature scent. I remember the sharpness that ripped my nose back then. When I've watched one of your videos, I needed to revise that scent, and I just can't get enough of it. I had purchased an oil and that green ( for me kinda citrus ) magic veil of scent comforts me.
I have so much to explore. I only know Poison and rest all the scents are new to me. Thanks for this video Sam. And you look lovely! Speak to you soon!
What a stunning collection! And gently carressing those bottles with gloves is doing something to me Sam. 😳😂 Something....wonderful. 💚 Keep those fragrances close to your heart!
Your channeling Audrey Hepburn. You look wonderful Sam! Those vintage bottles are so special! Todays versions are flat shadows of their former selves victims of too many restrictions and reformulations. It's truly sad, but it reflects everything we live now. Thanks for sharing! 🌹💛
I am a vintage addict. Some are incidental fragrances I’ve kept forever. Some are purchases I’ve hunted down. Restricting oakmoss and animalics was a tragedy IMO.
Beautiful collection, beautiful bottles. I’m really enjoying perfume oils too, the oil version of Bruno Acompora’s Musc is a joy to wear. Magie Noire oil just stops me in my tracks. Didn’t think of an oil version of Caleche, looks like I’ll have to track one down.
What a lovely vintage collection you have Sam!! I don't actively collect vintage perfumes but I do collect some vintage fountain pens and makeup compacts here and there. It's always interesting to see how things were done back then compared to now. The attention to quality put into any product was on another level compared to modern times. Hopefully someday I will come across some vintage perfumes to land in my lap. 🤞😊
Vintage YSL Opium in the red bottle, back from the late 80's. That smell was one of a kind, such fascinating fragrance. Have tried smelling the more recent versions but got no Ratatouille time-travel experience whatsoever, did not trigger my nose with any resemblance.
I also have the vintage Dior Addict and I absolutely agree that it has parallels with Angelique Noire. I've debated whether I actually need both, because of their similarities.
Stunning collection/ selection there Sam. So many wonderful fragrances! I am somewhat of a vintage collector and have a particular interest in the old YSL masculines (Kouros, Jazz et al) from the days when YSL was arguably a giant amongst fragrances houses! 👌🔥
Great collection! I love it. I have a pure perfume of Dior Poison it’s so beautiful! Dior addict is just amazing also! I actually am kinda happy you did not mention Chanel No 5, I unfortunately dislike it! Thanks for a great video!!!!
So many of these sound very good. My mother often wore Bal à Versailles back in the day. It's a power house!!! That scent lingered on in her room for 2-3 hours after she sprayed. She also wore Fleurs de rocailles, Je reviens, Callandre, l'Heure bleue. I don't have that many ''old school'' very floral, chypres fragrances, but I do want to get a few. I need to find a few of those for when I want to wear something classic. I don't have vintage bottles. I'm a little affraid of getting ripped off by trying to buy them online.
Oh ya! She wore puchy fragrances and can rock green ones too. My father would always be very well served in fragrance stores when he would ask for those.
Hi Sam its been a while as life is a series of interruptions..my favs in Vintage are Joint by Rocc Barrocca a woody chypre...Leonard pour Homme a great leather...Ma Liberte by Jean Patou, Giorgio for Men by Giorgio Beverly Hills vintage a strong Woody Patchouli...a spicy Homme de Gres by Parfumes Gres....and Youth Dew by Estee Lauder.
This was amazing Sam! I never smelled any vintage but you really got me hooked! I would love to try some 😍 Do you have some tips how to get hands on some of those ? :)
Thank you so much! I do hope I didn't get you hooked, because it will be a whole new obsession... online marketplaces are the way to go, with private sellers that have 5-star reviews, but never buy something where you can't see the state of the bottle. Online batch number checkers will be your friend too. Good luck if you do go down the path 🌹Xo Sam
I had addict in the early 00s when I wasn’t into perfume. Used some of it and then gave away. New formulation doesn’t hit the same. Killing myself! Agree re Angelique Noir reference
My tiny little bottle sits on the shelf in my office, and even with the stopper firmly in place, it essentially acts as a room fragrance XD I feel like one tiny dab of the stuff is too much, and I love heavy perfumes. Let us know if you snag yourself a bottle!
Bat-Sheba Parfum Toilette: My Mom wore this in the 70s. I was about 3 & 4 & would smell her scarf after she wore it. We both loved it forever. I do wish the original formula would somehow come back. 🥲🥰❤.
The the only vintage perfume I have is Le feu from Issey Miyake. Some people on fragrantica say that perfume from Jean Luc Amsler called Femme privé is a decent remplacement. Have you tried maybe? Do you like 🔥 le Feu?
Joy was so iconic, and yes I remember the "most expensive in the world" positioning. If you had Joy, it was like hearing you had a Bentley or a Rolls Royce.
You speak so beautifully on perfume. I am eager to learn the language of this world, i just picked up a vintage bottle of emeraude. Down the rabbit hole! ❤

Wow, beautiful perfumes, beautiful collection 😍
Thank you so much 🌹Xo Sam
Love your vintage collection! How do you prevent them from turning?
I keep them in a dark, cool cupboard. The rest is luck 🌹Xo Sam
I have a decant of the current Dior Addict. The dry down is nice, but did not blow me away. I would love to try the vintage version ❤
The current one sadly doesn't measure up. I'm quite picky with vanillas and I love the vintage 🌹Xo Sam
Thanks so much for sharing your favorites, friend! 🌹Xo Sam
I agree about Annick Goutal. I really want a vintage bottle of Mandragore
They are gifts of perfumery 🌹Xo Sam
Hi Sam. I would love to hear about the medicinal fragrances that you love. I currently am enjoying Thymes’s Eucalyptus and White Tea fragrance.
I have Norell from the 80's and 90's. I have a splash bottle, a spray bottle, and a small (5ml? 10ml?) bottle labelled "Perfume".
very fancy!
😂 just trying to represent the vintages
Gorgeous collection 😍 Bravo ❤
Thank you!! 🌹Xo Sam
This was amazing Sam! I never smelled any vintage but you really got me hooked! I would love to try some 😍
Do you have some tips how to get hands on some of those ?
❤ great video! and collection 👍 but… 1992 Giò by Giorgio Armani. It should be there !
It belongs to your vintage collection, trust me 😎
I had addict in the early 00s when I wasn’t into perfume. Used some of it and then gave away. New formulation doesn’t hit the same. Killing myself! Agree re Angelique Noir reference
Love your collection!
Mmmm that vintage Poison!
Ah yes, have been close to buying Esprit many a time! 🌹Xo Sam
What a lovely memory. This is why scarves are meant to be perfumed! Fingers crossed for you 🌹Xo Sam
She’s baccckkk
I loved the original Dior Addict, but going back and smelling it recently I was underwhelmed. Now I know why.
There is quite a difference, sadly 🌹Xo Sam
You should try and hunt down Armani by Giorgio Armani (woman)from the 80’s
Love the outfit you look lovely
Thank you for the kindness 🌹Xo Sam
The the only vintage perfume I have is Le feu from Issey Miyake. Some people on fragrantica say that perfume from Jean Luc Amsler called Femme privé is a decent remplacement. Have you tried maybe? Do you like 🔥 le Feu?
Don’t you call my beloved 19 vicious please! You look stunning with these gloves 😮
A thing of beauty 🌹
You are too kind 🌹Xo Sam
Great so good😊😊😊
Poison ❤️
long time no see, I always like your informative videos
Thanks so much for the support 🌹Xo Sam
