Western cultures rising resistance towards jokes such as these and the actions people have been known to take in response to the people making them means we need that kind of humor more than ever. Humor has an uncanny power to get peoples attention and possibly inform you about another way of thinking. Trying to ban things like rape jokes is not only a gravely unethical assault on liberty, its actually making the situation worse by silencing people who are trying to use a very real method of dealing with rape. On top of that, letting words of a stranger trigger you(not you) into screaming for the offender's silence is far beyond child-like and into the realm of psychopathy.
All of our major problems have been brewing LONG before obama. I dont even like the guy, but i rarely ever refer to the president in arguments anymore. Each one is mostly the same other than a few social and economic differences. The system for electing them is both ancient and rigged.
I use an Anker Astro Pro 2 20,000mAh every day. I got it about 2 years ago and it still holds up to my demands. I have discharged it completely in less than a day, but I was charging a PSVita and a phone for a friend while playing Ingress for multiple hours (before it's significant battery optimizations; constant high drain application of the tech).
Anker 15000mAh (pre powercore) has been going strong for 4 years now. In addition to a Project Fi gift power bank w/ 5000mAh I've owned several brands over the years, but Anker has the best reliability, and best customer service I've experienced so far.
Most of these power banks use 18650 cells, these are around the size of a roll of quarters / 3quids worth of 10p. They also tend to be around 2000mah. If you see a battery thats only 1 cell ish in size and says its higher (say 500+mah) then its bullshit. Spend the extra and get a 2cell unit, rather than a smaller one made of lies.
You are aware that there are high quality 18650 cells with upto around 3500mAh of capacity right? Yes they max out at around 5A continuous but thats still plenty for a USB charger. Ive seen single cell 18650 portable chargers that ive measured at around 2800mAh which is pretty good, being labeled at 3000mAh. I also have a Aukey 10,000mAh Quick Charge which has 4 18650's in it and it has a capacity of only ~8500mAh, which im ok with, but still could potentially be upto 14,000mAh using 3500mAh cells. Or like @L3G1T BMX said just get a empty shell with a USB output that holds however many cells, and put your own 18650's in it.
I strongly recommend Samsungs own power banks. It was $20 more than some third-party one with the same capacity, but the build quality and quick charge functionality easily makes up for it.
Romoss solo 5 is great, I've got a couple of them. No frills, no flashlight to accidentally turn on while in your bag, good shape, ideal outlet placement. They just work. I can comfortably keep my phone and the powerbank in one pocket while the phone charges too, which matters to me.
although you are correct, mWh is a unit of energy and is converted into to joules by a simple multiplication. As we are dealing with a constant 5 V from USB charging, multiplying the mAh by 5 V will give you mWh. So in this case I think it's okay to call mAh a unit of energy as the only thing you need to change it to one are constant.
Linus, i can suggest some highly rated audio books, Try: the power of five - anthony horowitz Nightmare series - stephen leather Day by day armageddon - JL borne Shatter - michael robotham Been a fan of audible for years now great for long journeys in the car
mWh is a far better unit to use here as there's always manufacturers that are going to state the (exagge)rated mAh of the battery cells themselves, which can be at a different volts so using mWh avoids any confusion. And let's be clear, 100Wh or 20000mAh rated at 5V output is the absolute maximum you will find as that is the legal limit for a lithium based battery. Anymore than that, and you can bet the rating is false.
wait, there is a limit :0 what about multiple batteries, like i have a laptop that can take 2 batteries, and one is 95wh, if i have two 95wh will that be over legal limit?
Shit that means I got ripped off coz I bought a power bank that says 30,000 mah no wonder it couldn't charge my camera like 24 times I doubt it could charge it 10 times tbh but it's so thick and heavy how does that make sense?
Linus, i think another important point is how quickly the actual battery bank itself is to charge; the input specs as well as the output specs. Its useful to have a 20000mAh battery bank but if it only charges at 0.5A it'll take days for the battery bank to charge and defeats the purpose
My go-to everyday power bank has been the Anker PowerCore fushion 2in1. It doubles as my wall brick aswell which is nice. I did an unboxing video of it and so far it's been my favorite. I'll do a review video after I've used it for a few more months.
What was failed to be mentioned in this video, is the input. If you have a large powerbank, make sure it supports 2amp input, otherwise it will take forever to charge.
I Chose my portable battery as it cost 18€ for 20000Mah and happened to have 2 integrated leds as flash light i have 1 1.2amp USB port and 2 2.3 amp USB ports and i am very happy with it. I liked your video as usual
I've just bought a 50000mah battery bank which is actually a laptop battery bank, it has up to 5amp output via 19v laptop charger and 2.1 amp 5v USB output. it's very handy when camping.
It certainly seems to have come across that way based on the comments, although not sure what else it could be referencing. Sadly far too few downvotes for it.
It's obviously a requirement for Audible affiliates to say "oh by the way I'm reading this book" - you hear it everywhere. Nice to see Linus take the piss out of this
I got a 50,000 mAh battery pack to take camping. It's for powering campsite LEDs... it's awesome! That's the largest I could find, before getting into scooter and motorcycle sized batteries. Plus, those don't have 3 to 4 USB ports either.
My grandma gave me a 1200 mAh battery bank for Christmas that she bought for like $50 on QVC. Tech gifts from elderly are such a bummer. It looks nice though, very shiny. It also comes in a fancy RF blocking wallet that does absolutely nothing to stop people stealing your credit card info like it claims to.
Test'em yourself. USB testers start at a little over a dollar for a simple model. I bought a powerbank that had a 1 Ah output and a 2 Ah output. Guess what? The 1 Ah delivered 0.5Ah to a device that prefers 1 Ah, and the 2 Ah delivered 1 Ah to a device that prefers 2 Ah. And I didn't connect both at the same time. It's capabable of delivering more, though. A load and tester went up to over 2 Ah on the 2 Ah port before it crapped out. So why didn't my devices draw more?
Thanks for telling me what battery bank to buy. Super helpful. If I wanted to figure it out on my own I would have. I'm lazy AF and want you to make my tech decisions for me. Get your shit together Linus!
At 4:23 I think Linus meant to say "But those require the charger and the devices that support it" instead he said "But those require the device and the chargers that support it" XD
you also missed a key part efficiency, some manufacturers advertise their product with the capacity needed to charge the bank, not the charge capacity the bank can hold. mine is advertised as a 10000 mah battery bank, but can only hold 6500 mah due to about 60% efficiency. that info is listed on the bottom of the battery bank. oh, you also need to keep in mind that the 10000 mah (for example) is output actually 10000 mah at 5 volts. this is important as there are devices that use the lesser known 3.6 volt standard, and you will need a transformer to convert the 5 volt output to 3.6 volt. if you only use the battery bank for said 3.6 volt device, then the capacity is not 10000 mah at 5 volt but more like 13800 mah at 3.6 volt (not accounting for the inefficiency of the transformer). that is why i choose to focus on the watthour rating instead.
Ampare is a unit of current which is defined as charging through an area per unit time, so current times time is charge that's why milliampere hours is untitled of charge and not time
Get the 20AHr from Aukey. No quick charge but it gives you 1 A and 2.1 A in two separate USB ports. It is big and heavy but if you go camping for a weekend it will work great for you. And since it's an older model it's actually cheaper. I got mine for $23 last year.
Linus didn't mention anything about charging efficiency. when you charge or use your device, some of the electrical energy is being converted to heat energy. so any battery bank you get will never charge your device as much as advertised. for example of you got a 10000mah battery bank and it's charging efficiency is 80%, that means 20% of that power is being converted into heat and you only have 8000mah of useable power. the more efficient it is the more useable power you have.
For my Tablet I use Tecknet, 9000millamp with a 1 and 2,5 amp output, my other powerbank Is a DB POWER one which can jumpstart a CAR... I use that for jumpstarting my motorcycle, it's part of my breakdown kit...
I use the juice power station (11200mah) dual usb ports 2.4a + 1a, this keeps me going for a few days without having to recharge again, even using them to charge my phone, Bluetooth speakers, headphones, even the rechargeable lights on my mtb.. more than ideal for camping
Friend. Help me here. When you measure the actual capacity in 5V the "mah" reduces, obviously. Buuuut, the cell phone battery is also a lithium 3.6V, then, the conversion back in the cellphone would not give back this total "mah" in 3 6V? Then, the only discounts in capacity would be the electric losses and resistances cable, right?
Really wish manufacturers would post capacities in Wh ratings, which is an actually USEFUL energy capacity rating, as opposed to the Ah rating, which is like stating that a vehicle's driving range is 14 Gallons of fuel.
Dammit Linus, I have just bought one! Although, there wasn't anything I didn't already know :P . The one I purchased was Samsung's Fast Charging Battery Pack of 10,200 mAh for my Samsung Galaxy S6. For some reason, it's difficult to find a power bank that features rapid charging technology, here in the Netherlands. Most of them tend to support 2.4 A at most - which is 12 Watts (5V x 2.4A). Meanwhile Samsung's implementation can be 15.03 Watts (9V x 1.67 A). I'm not entirely certain if ~3 Watts makes a big difference, but I rather be safe than sorry with a power bank that explicitly supports rapid charging technology. Personally, I would have considered the Anker Powercore 10,000 with Quick Charge 3.0 (the 3.0 portion could come in handy in the future), but I can only seem to order it from Amazon and they don't support Paypal - I don't have a credit card - or my country's own iDeal (like Paypal, but through your own bank). The latter was to be expected as it's not used anywhere outside the country, but only supporting CC's is incredibly annoying. Oh yeah, what can also make a power bank's capacity feel lower is how some of the charge is lost through heat and by converting said charge for the output.
Buy 2 power banks and have them charge each other, that always turns out well.
I bought anker power core lite 10000 6 month ago it works excellent
You forgot the 2nd law of thermodynamics, energy would be lost in the form of heat through current transfer across the devices

1A is 1C/s
1Ah is 3600 C
mAh at a specific voltage is a unit of energy
because
P = IV

Yah, joules=energy

I got a 50,000 mAh battery pack to take camping. It's for powering campsite LEDs... it's awesome! That's the largest I could find, before getting into scooter and motorcycle sized batteries. Plus, those don't have 3 to 4 USB ports either.
mAh is a unit of charge, not energy. Do your homework Linus.
Yu Stephen its edited into the video.
My recommendation is to not make date rape jokes.
"I am here to tell you what you can and cannot joke about"
How about FOAD.
You mean mints?
At 4:23 I think Linus meant to say "But those require the charger and the devices that support it" instead he said "But those require the device and the chargers that support it" XD
at 2:50 you can tell Linus wasn't supposed to be in this video. bahaha that "Linus, That's me." line killed me
you also missed a key part efficiency, some manufacturers advertise their product with the capacity needed to charge the bank, not the charge capacity the bank can hold. mine is advertised as a 10000 mah battery bank, but can only hold 6500 mah due to about 60% efficiency. that info is listed on the bottom of the battery bank. oh, you also need to keep in mind that the 10000 mah (for example) is output actually 10000 mah at 5 volts. this is important as there are devices that use the lesser known 3.6 volt standard, and you will need a transformer to convert the 5 volt output to 3.6 volt. if you only use the battery bank for said 3.6 volt device, then the capacity is not 10000 mah at 5 volt but more like 13800 mah at 3.6 volt (not accounting for the inefficiency of the transformer). that is why i choose to focus on the watthour rating instead.
Ampare is a unit of current which is defined as charging through an area per unit time, so current times time is charge that's why milliampere hours is untitled of charge and not time
WOW, Great video, you rock, you make video that are interesting to watch. Good audio clear video. Great subject I learn a lot in just a short time.
Get the 20AHr from Aukey. No quick charge but it gives you 1 A and 2.1 A in two separate USB ports. It is big and heavy but if you go camping for a weekend it will work great for you. And since it's an older model it's actually cheaper. I got mine for $23 last year.
Anker MegGo 622 with magsafe, to not have to remember a cable for charging the phone is a revolution.
Came for the battery banks, stayed for the shirtless Lukes.
This guy tries too hard to entertain when all I need is the facts.
For my Tablet I use Tecknet, 9000millamp with a 1 and 2,5 amp output, my other powerbank Is a DB POWER one which can jumpstart a CAR... I use that for jumpstarting my motorcycle, it's part of my breakdown kit...
2:50 This is what happens when the script is written for Luke and Linus does the video
You're one the best on TH-cam!
Is this really a tech quickie episode? This should be on Tech tips
2:23 discharge and charging low current electronics lower the capcity if charging low current electronics
I always choose a solar powered portable charger but also has a battery that also charges from solar power.
I use the juice power station (11200mah) dual usb ports 2.4a + 1a, this keeps me going for a few days without having to recharge again, even using them to charge my phone, Bluetooth speakers, headphones, even the rechargeable lights on my mtb.. more than ideal for camping
We need an updated version of this
I would enjoy the video thank you what is the best power bank for HP laptop?
Really wish manufacturers would post capacities in Wh ratings, which is an actually USEFUL energy capacity rating, as opposed to the Ah rating, which is like stating that a vehicle's driving range is 14 Gallons of fuel.
If manufacturers could like actually put USB C on them then that’d be nice
WTF, did anyone else get disturbed at 3:25, talking about "getting ready for that big date" and shows two pills and "Don't forget these" ...!?
because the date doesnt exist
Finally someone that makes sense!!! thanks!!
