I can answer you: -What Battery Bank Should You Buy? Any you like From official Company with bigger mAh bigger mAh = bigger energy official, becouse No names Chinas batteries - Lies about mAh sometime in 5-10 times For Phones, Tablet its 5V and 0.5A - because in 90% cases they(Phones) cant drain more (except some exclusive features, Like USB 3 - it can deliver more power but, do you’re phone support that?) In many Cases 2A and 4A on power bank is align to sum of A for all ports. So if you have 1 port given 2A - you can charge 4 devices (Beware using all charging port - simple don’t plug 4-10 devices in 1 power bank) And power banks with 12-24V is for Netbooks and Laptops
Linus is a fucking idiot, he got lucky with his channel by relying on other people being dumb as a shit and thinking he knows what he's talking about. Also, the "experts" he has on his channel know more than he does, so it balances out.
The game will no doubt die in rural areas where you can't get pokestops and there aren't any nests or frequent spawns. In the cities it's still insanely active.
I use an Anker Astro Pro 2 20,000mAh every day. I got it about 2 years ago and it still holds up to my demands. I have discharged it completely in less than a day, but I was charging a PSVita and a phone for a friend while playing Ingress for multiple hours (before it's significant battery optimizations; constant high drain application of the tech).
although you are correct, mWh is a unit of energy and is converted into to joules by a simple multiplication. As we are dealing with a constant 5 V from USB charging, multiplying the mAh by 5 V will give you mWh. So in this case I think it's okay to call mAh a unit of energy as the only thing you need to change it to one are constant.
Dear Linus & Team, thank you for making these videos. They're concise, informative and perfect for us modern viewers! I love your work so much - keep up the good productions!
Most of these power banks use 18650 cells, these are around the size of a roll of quarters / 3quids worth of 10p. They also tend to be around 2000mah. If you see a battery thats only 1 cell ish in size and says its higher (say 500+mah) then its bullshit. Spend the extra and get a 2cell unit, rather than a smaller one made of lies.
You are aware that there are high quality 18650 cells with upto around 3500mAh of capacity right? Yes they max out at around 5A continuous but thats still plenty for a USB charger. Ive seen single cell 18650 portable chargers that ive measured at around 2800mAh which is pretty good, being labeled at 3000mAh. I also have a Aukey 10,000mAh Quick Charge which has 4 18650's in it and it has a capacity of only ~8500mAh, which im ok with, but still could potentially be upto 14,000mAh using 3500mAh cells. Or like @L3G1T BMX said just get a empty shell with a USB output that holds however many cells, and put your own 18650's in it.
Anker 15000mAh (pre powercore) has been going strong for 4 years now. In addition to a Project Fi gift power bank w/ 5000mAh I've owned several brands over the years, but Anker has the best reliability, and best customer service I've experienced so far.
Romoss solo 5 is great, I've got a couple of them. No frills, no flashlight to accidentally turn on while in your bag, good shape, ideal outlet placement. They just work. I can comfortably keep my phone and the powerbank in one pocket while the phone charges too, which matters to me.

My go-to everyday power bank has been the Anker PowerCore fushion 2in1. It doubles as my wall brick aswell which is nice. I did an unboxing video of it and so far it's been my favorite. I'll do a review video after I've used it for a few more months.
For my Tablet I use Tecknet, 9000millamp with a 1 and 2,5 amp output, my other powerbank Is a DB POWER one which can jumpstart a CAR... I use that for jumpstarting my motorcycle, it's part of my breakdown kit...
mWh is a far better unit to use here as there's always manufacturers that are going to state the (exagge)rated mAh of the battery cells themselves, which can be at a different volts so using mWh avoids any confusion. And let's be clear, 100Wh or 20000mAh rated at 5V output is the absolute maximum you will find as that is the legal limit for a lithium based battery. Anymore than that, and you can bet the rating is false.
wait, there is a limit :0 what about multiple batteries, like i have a laptop that can take 2 batteries, and one is 95wh, if i have two 95wh will that be over legal limit?
Shit that means I got ripped off coz I bought a power bank that says 30,000 mah no wonder it couldn't charge my camera like 24 times I doubt it could charge it 10 times tbh but it's so thick and heavy how does that make sense?
What was failed to be mentioned in this video, is the input. If you have a large powerbank, make sure it supports 2amp input, otherwise it will take forever to charge.
Western cultures rising resistance towards jokes such as these and the actions people have been known to take in response to the people making them means we need that kind of humor more than ever. Humor has an uncanny power to get peoples attention and possibly inform you about another way of thinking. Trying to ban things like rape jokes is not only a gravely unethical assault on liberty, its actually making the situation worse by silencing people who are trying to use a very real method of dealing with rape. On top of that, letting words of a stranger trigger you(not you) into screaming for the offender's silence is far beyond child-like and into the realm of psychopathy.
All of our major problems have been brewing LONG before obama. I dont even like the guy, but i rarely ever refer to the president in arguments anymore. Each one is mostly the same other than a few social and economic differences. The system for electing them is both ancient and rigged.
I've just bought a 50000mah battery bank which is actually a laptop battery bank, it has up to 5amp output via 19v laptop charger and 2.1 amp 5v USB output. it's very handy when camping.
I am always confuse about how much amp needed for each of my device. I have charger & powerbank with multiple output but i do not know how to identify if my device are charging as it should. Can you do a video on how we can calculate & optimize the output for our charger/ powerbank? Thanks
It's simple just use this formula to calculate how much watt that your charger/powerbank produce watt=ampere × volt just see that how much volt and ampere your charger has and then multiply it to find watt Also regular devices need 2 ampere
I got a 50,000 mAh battery pack to take camping. It's for powering campsite LEDs... it's awesome! That's the largest I could find, before getting into scooter and motorcycle sized batteries. Plus, those don't have 3 to 4 USB ports either.
My grandma gave me a 1200 mAh battery bank for Christmas that she bought for like $50 on QVC. Tech gifts from elderly are such a bummer. It looks nice though, very shiny. It also comes in a fancy RF blocking wallet that does absolutely nothing to stop people stealing your credit card info like it claims to.
Linus, i think another important point is how quickly the actual battery bank itself is to charge; the input specs as well as the output specs. Its useful to have a 20000mAh battery bank but if it only charges at 0.5A it'll take days for the battery bank to charge and defeats the purpose
Weird question-I’m looking to use one of these to run usb air pumps on my aquariums as a backup during power outages-not charge it, run it while connected. Can these banks run things or just recharge things?
you also missed a key part efficiency, some manufacturers advertise their product with the capacity needed to charge the bank, not the charge capacity the bank can hold. mine is advertised as a 10000 mah battery bank, but can only hold 6500 mah due to about 60% efficiency. that info is listed on the bottom of the battery bank. oh, you also need to keep in mind that the 10000 mah (for example) is output actually 10000 mah at 5 volts. this is important as there are devices that use the lesser known 3.6 volt standard, and you will need a transformer to convert the 5 volt output to 3.6 volt. if you only use the battery bank for said 3.6 volt device, then the capacity is not 10000 mah at 5 volt but more like 13800 mah at 3.6 volt (not accounting for the inefficiency of the transformer). that is why i choose to focus on the watthour rating instead.
I use the juice power station (11200mah) dual usb ports 2.4a + 1a, this keeps me going for a few days without having to recharge again, even using them to charge my phone, Bluetooth speakers, headphones, even the rechargeable lights on my mtb.. more than ideal for camping
Test'em yourself. USB testers start at a little over a dollar for a simple model. I bought a powerbank that had a 1 Ah output and a 2 Ah output. Guess what? The 1 Ah delivered 0.5Ah to a device that prefers 1 Ah, and the 2 Ah delivered 1 Ah to a device that prefers 2 Ah. And I didn't connect both at the same time. It's capabable of delivering more, though. A load and tester went up to over 2 Ah on the 2 Ah port before it crapped out. So why didn't my devices draw more?
It certainly seems to have come across that way based on the comments, although not sure what else it could be referencing. Sadly far too few downvotes for it.
Get the 20AHr from Aukey. No quick charge but it gives you 1 A and 2.1 A in two separate USB ports. It is big and heavy but if you go camping for a weekend it will work great for you. And since it's an older model it's actually cheaper. I got mine for $23 last year.
Thanks for telling me what battery bank to buy. Super helpful. If I wanted to figure it out on my own I would have. I'm lazy AF and want you to make my tech decisions for me. Get your shit together Linus!
I'm going on a trip in a couple of months requiring some long flights. I have 3 or 4 battery banks I plan on taking for the trip, but I'm concerned whether they are allowed on the plane. Anyone have an answer?
If I use 2KW a month from the electric grid and want to make a wind turbine to produce the same amount of Kws, what kind of alternator or generator should I use? How much watts? No batteries, directly into the power box with a transfer switch.
Hi Is it okay to directly connect the solar panel to asus powerbank without damaging it? and how much voltage from the solar panel is preferable to be use?
Ampare is a unit of current which is defined as charging through an area per unit time, so current times time is charge that's why milliampere hours is untitled of charge and not time
Hey, I've been buying and trying many power Banks and that 2.0 amp port had been a lie in every case. What gives? And my phone supports rapid charging. It has a 4000 mAh capacity and when I use the wall charger that's readied at 5v 2A, I get a sweet 1200-1500 mA charge. When I try the 2 amp port in these power Banks, they put out an average of 200-300 mA. What's the deal with that?
Linus didn't mention anything about charging efficiency. when you charge or use your device, some of the electrical energy is being converted to heat energy. so any battery bank you get will never charge your device as much as advertised. for example of you got a 10000mah battery bank and it's charging efficiency is 80%, that means 20% of that power is being converted into heat and you only have 8000mah of useable power. the more efficient it is the more useable power you have.
Nothing to say about USB-C support? I haven't looked into the subject of C-compatible battery packs yet and got my hopes up that this would touch on it...
Ik this has been 4 years but can you use those wireless pads to turn your smartphone into wireless charging on a power bank so that you can place it on a wireless charger and charge the bank wirelessly
My battery bank doesnt charge.. Do I have to fully spend all of the power thats in it or what?? I have a some kind pf a walter battery bank... Please help?
The 2 amp ones charge faster but the1amp ones have the benefit of keeping your phone powered wile plugged in for longer. This is because when you rapidly discharge a battery to rapidly charge a differint battery more of the energy is wasted, burned off as heat or other inefficiency. 1amp is my preference for this reason.
what about charging above 50% in Li-pl batteries? wont the resistance increase the higher percentage it goes and in effect last longer to stop at 50 and recharge over and over when it gets low?
Hey Linus Tech Tips, why is it that, when I switch an application from windowed to full screen, my monitor feels the need to cause an epileptic seizure? (why does it blink on and off several times)
today i drown my iget power bank .... 8000 MaH and idk its broken or it will be work again because "capacity" leds are flashing and i connect it to usb led and its flashing every 5 seconds ... any advice ?
Buy 2 power banks and have them charge each other, that always turns out well.

You forgot the 2nd law of thermodynamics, energy would be lost in the form of heat through current transfer across the devices

How many charges does it give your phone before dying?
mAh is not unit of energy
it is a unit of charge
1A is 1C/s
1Ah is 3600 C
mAh at a specific voltage is a unit of energy
because
P = IV
and E=Pt
Yah, joules=energy
It actually has a title on the screen at that time that says “Linus meant to say charge”. He knows what he’s doing (most of the time).
although you are correct, mWh is a unit of energy and is converted into to joules by a simple multiplication. So in this case I think it's okay to call mAh a unit of energy as the only thing you need to change it to one are constant.

Linus, i think another important point is how quickly the actual battery bank itself is to charge; the input specs as well as the output specs. Its useful to have a 20000mAh battery bank but if it only charges at 0.5A it'll take days for the battery bank to charge and defeats the purpose
Hey Linus you should try to put a pc into a car!
Weird question-I’m looking to use one of these to run usb air pumps on my aquariums as a backup during power outages-not charge it, run it while connected. Can these banks run things or just recharge things?
Recharge. You might be looking for something else in mind.
I didn't get that joke about Russia at the end 😕
napoleon tried to invade russia and failed in the scenario explained. its hilarious really.
GeneraL_LOL really? i didnt know that haha guess ill check that out
Aaron96235 thats not what he was referring to. he was referring to napoleons failure in invading russia.
as other comments have said, basically, every time in history a major powerhouse tried to invade russia, they all failed miserably.
Easy, the joke is about Hitler invading Russia in winter and fail.
Please can you make a video on what is workstation and how it operates and also why it is required
3:24 was this a bill cosby joke?
Great video. And I loved your sense of humor.
Who else saw this even though they owned a portable battery just because of linus.
you also missed a key part efficiency, some manufacturers advertise their product with the capacity needed to charge the bank, not the charge capacity the bank can hold. mine is advertised as a 10000 mah battery bank, but can only hold 6500 mah due to about 60% efficiency. that info is listed on the bottom of the battery bank. oh, you also need to keep in mind that the 10000 mah (for example) is output actually 10000 mah at 5 volts. this is important as there are devices that use the lesser known 3.6 volt standard, and you will need a transformer to convert the 5 volt output to 3.6 volt. if you only use the battery bank for said 3.6 volt device, then the capacity is not 10000 mah at 5 volt but more like 13800 mah at 3.6 volt (not accounting for the inefficiency of the transformer). that is why i choose to focus on the watthour rating instead.
Anker 20,000 mah best brand and best price.
I use the juice power station (11200mah) dual usb ports 2.4a + 1a, this keeps me going for a few days without having to recharge again, even using them to charge my phone, Bluetooth speakers, headphones, even the rechargeable lights on my mtb.. more than ideal for camping
the "dont forget these" ffs linus 03:26
Test'em yourself. USB testers start at a little over a dollar for a simple model. I bought a powerbank that had a 1 Ah output and a 2 Ah output. Guess what? The 1 Ah delivered 0.5Ah to a device that prefers 1 Ah, and the 2 Ah delivered 1 Ah to a device that prefers 2 Ah. And I didn't connect both at the same time. It's capabable of delivering more, though. A load and tester went up to over 2 Ah on the 2 Ah port before it crapped out. So why didn't my devices draw more?
Were those pills a date rape joke?
It certainly seems to have come across that way based on the comments, although not sure what else it could be referencing. Sadly far too few downvotes for it.
nope, they are mints. You want a good breath before a date.
Get the 20AHr from Aukey. No quick charge but it gives you 1 A and 2.1 A in two separate USB ports. It is big and heavy but if you go camping for a weekend it will work great for you. And since it's an older model it's actually cheaper. I got mine for $23 last year.
mAh is a unit of charge, not energy. Do your homework Linus.
Yu Stephen its edited into the video.
Thanks for telling me what battery bank to buy. Super helpful. If I wanted to figure it out on my own I would have. I'm lazy AF and want you to make my tech decisions for me. Get your shit together Linus!
a date rape joke really?!?!?!
dan funny
1:23 hence high energy device only could charge low energy device hence proved (Q.E.D) "quod erat demonstrandum"
My recommendation is to not make date rape jokes.
"I am here to tell you what you can and cannot joke about"
How about FOAD.
You mean mints?
Anker MegGo 622 with magsafe, to not have to remember a cable for charging the phone is a revolution.
wondered how come some battery packs it is advised not to charge the phone from it while the pack is charging from the mains
The DBZ reference to Nappa was so good, I had to acknowledge it.
I'm going on a trip in a couple of months requiring some long flights. I have 3 or 4 battery banks I plan on taking for the trip, but I'm concerned whether they are allowed on the plane. Anyone have an answer?
Lawren Downing yup legal limit allowed on a plane is 99Wh.
oh my jesus the whole video is the segway to the ad this is brilliant
If I use 2KW a month from the electric grid and want to make a wind turbine to produce the same amount of Kws, what kind of alternator or generator should I use? How much watts? No batteries, directly into the power box with a transfer switch.
Hey, can you please do a video on beamforming technology?
at 2:50 you can tell Linus wasn't supposed to be in this video. bahaha that "Linus, That's me." line killed me
Hi Is it okay to directly connect the solar panel to asus powerbank without damaging it? and how much voltage from the solar panel is preferable to be use?
Is this really a tech quickie episode? This should be on Tech tips
I need battery bank that works in -20 to - 40 CELSIUS temperature. Any help getting one?
+Trichome Farmer
Theres million ways and places to ask a questions. This is one of them.
Trichome Farmer
Yeh, kinda hard to use google. Im still learning to us this bing thing =DDDDD
I got a new Oukitel k6000 and it holds 3 days with average use and 2 with some mini gaming, camera stuff etc
Anker I would say is probably the best to use and fast charges
Hey Linus Tech Tips, why is it that, when I switch an application from windowed to full screen, my monitor feels the need to cause an epileptic seizure? (why does it blink on and off several times)
today i drown my iget power bank .... 8000 MaH and idk its broken or it will be work again because "capacity" leds are flashing and i connect it to usb led and its flashing every 5 seconds ... any advice ?
