Poland is really beautiful. Many places were left out of this video. It is a beautiful, clean and above all very safe country.

Kościuszko is the guy who built West Point. He is a hero of Poland and the USA. It has its own parade every year in NY and its own monuments.
Kościuszko was also the originator of the US flag, based on the colors of the Sandomierz region

This mound named the mound of Tadeusz Kosciuszko, a Polish general. This figure is also very well known in the United States is also an American hero.
He fought for the independence of the United States.
He designed the defensive parts for West Point.
There is a statue of him in West Point in the main square.
There is a monument in Lafayette Square in Washington.
Kosciuszko Day at West Point. He was one of the initiators of the academy.
The statue commemorates Polish patriot Thaddeus Kosciuszko (1746-1817) and his life-long dedication to fighting for freedom in America and Poland. His skill in building fortifications in key places, including West Point, contributed greatly to the success of freedom in the American Revolution. This bronze memorial, located at the northeast corner of Lafayette Park, was dedicated in 1910. The figure of Kosciuszko, on a granite pedestal, wears the uniform of a general of the Continental Army and his right hand holds a map of the fortifications of Saratoga, New York. Directly below Kosciuszko stands a defiant eagle with outspread wings. The eagle is guarding a flag, a shield, and a sword upon a portion of the globe showing America. On the opposite side is an eagle struggling fiercely with a snake atop a portion of the globe showing Poland.
Kosciuszko was rewarded lavishly by Congress with an allotment of land (250 acres) and a hefty salary (he was promoted to brigadier general of the U.S. Army in 1783) for his services to U.S. independence - he primarily specialized in building excellent fortifications. Kosciuszko stipulated in his will that a portion of his estate be used to buy out slaves belonging to his several American acquaintances, including, among others, Thomas Jefferson, one of the founding fathers of the United States. Kosciuszko also made it clear that the money should be used to educate freed people.
"In his contacts with Thomas Jefferson, he insisted on the redemption and liberation of slaves. Jefferson owned slaves and lived off their labor. In contrast, Kosciuszko was a man who took to himself the well-known American proverb "Put Your Money where Your mouth is," which means "It's not enough to talk, you have to put up the money." The Polish commander could have lived freely from his property in the Republic (now in Belarus), but he made the decision to liberate the peasants who worked on his land, regardless of the costs incurred, Alex Storozynski, author of the book "Kosciuszko - Prince of Peasants," said in an interview.
Thomas Jefferson, who called Kosciuszko "the purest son of liberty," however, did not fulfill the will of his Polish friend, thus breaking his own promise.
In cities such as Kraków, Gdańsk, Wrocław, Warsaw Lublin Torun, driving into their historic parts is prohibited. You can travel on foot or by public transport, i.e. tram, bus, trolleybus. In Krakow, where I live, only delivery vehicles are allowed until 10 a.m. that supply shops and restaurants. Greetings from Krakow.

I often hear from Americans who visited Poland that they were really shocked that we don't drive everywhere: we walk or use public transport :)
And old towns are usually no cars zones :)
Yes many many europeans WALK instead of jumping in car to drive 5 blocks - thats why we are fat and you are not lol
@@ReactionsbyD I think our public transport helps a lot with limiting driving :D And believe me, I know some people here who would walk 1 minute to a bus stop and then take 2 minutes ride instead of just walking for 5 minutes to a shop :D
In Poland many people have cars.
From cities to small villages.
People use them when work or school is far from home.Also in case if from small village need to get to the city or town or other village kilometers away to buy something in mall,supermarkets,groceries etc.
In case if people live in cities who have car then ok.But if there is anyone who is not able to get car is usually taking public transport.
About going on foot some ppl do it in cities when they have close to work or school but also it's part of relaxed period of time spending on walking with family members or friends into famous places of each city or even somewhere to the park.
It's not only healthy to just walk but also saves money for something else than buying 1 time tickets for public transport

Hi, I'm born and raised in Wrocław. And no, we don't have cars in centrum. (main city - rynek) it's vorbidden to drive a car there. Only the big wigs can. (like president of the city or
mayor) can go in Rynek with the cars. Those are a 1000 years old streets, we don't want to ruined them with the cars. We walk and enjoy the history.

Gdańsk was completely destroyed during WW2, but was rebuilt after the war. All tenement houses were built from scratch and have a completely different plan and layout. It was similar with Wroclaw and Poznań. Destroyed Elbląg and Olsztyn, as well as many smaller towns, were rebuilt in a rather free form. And then there's Warsaw, where a small part of the old town and the castle were rebuilt.

Two things: do not compare Poland to Germany. 2nd: never say it is an east european country.

Poland is middle European country.
It's not considered to be part of eastern europe not because of exact location map of europe but historically during cold war Poland was in eastern alliance called Warsaw Pact.
But today Poland in current state is trying to get closer to quality of life of western europe.
The rebuilding of Poland after war is insane, it is incredible and imopssible what our grandfathers did. Everyone who's ever repaired a faucet in his hause knows what I'm talking about. It is just so much work. It is way harder to repair something than to build something from scratch, yet our grandfathers have rebuild THE WHOLE COUNTRY!!! Go ahead and rebuild a home for 40 freakin million people. We now say our grandfathers were all handymans, or as we say it here "golden hands", meaning they were able to build or repair anything and everything. Women in Poland say a real man should be able to take care of everything in the house, if anything breaks.

Gdańsk (Danzig) was almost completely destroyed during WW2 and rebuilt by Poles. Whenever there was a choice the architects prioritized Polish architecture, from older period, over newer German one.
The region around Wroclaw is where my father’s family used to live until 1945 when they were forced to leave by the Polish government, having to get onto cattle wagons westward to Saxony. I really want to visit there one day, and also see a couple of other places in Western Poland where other branches of my dad’s family originally came from. My dad had hoped to visit his birthplace before his death - but that never came to realization. He passed away on New Year’s Eve 2017. Ironically, a couple of years later I found out that my dad probably had more Polish than German ancestors…

Skyline of Warsaw is bit outdated in the video, there are several more skyscrapers right now like Varso Tower of 310 m, the highest in the EU (not very impressive worldwide but generally in Europe we don't build high)

about traffic - in the case of most of European historic old towns - which are usualy central places of modern cities - traffic was given huge bypasses around these modern cities which IMO is nice when nothing like this ruins turists their views :)
as to the architecture - in Europe it is kind of natural that neighbouring countries have similar architecture in the same ages of style. And 2 of 4 of those cities you've seen are actualy build during the times when they were part of Germany - Wrocław and Gdansk. Most of this area from Wroclaw to Gdansk regions were given up to Poland after II WW, becouse Poland lost much bigger area on the east, which were taken by Soviets. So I personaly always think that the exchenge was good for us - we lost big areas of fertile land on the east (Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania) taken by Soviets after II WW but poor areas and instead we got this industrialised, urbanised areas of Wroclaw and Gdansk.

I the 13 century German settlers were welcome by Polish dukes of Piast Dynasty that ruled several Polish Principalities. They actually built Cracow,, Those who came encouraged by the Teutonic Order built Gdańsk (Danzig) and Toruń (Thorn). Thats why they resamble German and Duch towns. Gdańsk was terribly destroyed by the Soviet bombardment and boming bu it was meticulously reconstructed in the fifties and sixties. Just like the Malbork Castle once the capital of Teutonic Order.
Danzig and northern central Poland were German Prussian before WW1 and WW2 and were subordinate to the Teutonic Order and later to the German Emperor. Danzig was a free Hanseatic city (German Hanseatic League) under German leadership. 80% of the residents were German. The typical German Hanseatic architecture of the old town, which still partially exists, is typical of the old German Hanseatic cities.

In my opinion all europe is similar in terms of cities and nature...i mean did u check distance between for example capital of poland and germany? Compared between new york and.. idk some city in some other of your states? Thank you for reaction, however, please, don't compare us to GERMANY. They destroied all Poland beautiful cities and stole our most important treasure, art pieces etc....We had to rebuilt everything thanks germans, so the comparison is like a facepalm

Gdańsk was part of Germany 127 years in history. Most of rest from 1000 history was in Poland. Anyway all people are there very welcome and it's one od my favorites place.
