    My wife bought her 03 with 77k miles on it in 2017 ..2 owners and all lexus maintenance. I will never forget how she felt driving off the lot in her 1st v8 convertible. Years later she still loves this car as do i. She barely has 120k miles on it and despite ALL the negative reviews about its styling and design, that 3uz is hands down a masterpiece. Every sc430 for sale is going up in price every year. To own the very 1st Lexus convertible ever made will be noteworthy in years to come.. great video and dedication 👏 👌

    Hello Neil, I'm now steadily working my way through your informative thread on Lexus-World and want to applaud you on all that you've done to your car. I can't begin to imagine how many man-hours you've spent on it but I'm sure it's worth it when you drive her! Respect to you.

      I am in California as well, and building up the engine on mine. I had a 2009 which was totaled, and I am building up an engine and my use the 2UZ iron block, so I can have sleeves installed and get 5.0 or 5.2 of displacement with all forged internals consisting of longer rods, and larger pistons. I have a decent amount of mods on mine and it looks great so its stock looking as far as appearance except for the exhaust, and its also ridiculously loud and sound absolutely demonic. Once I get the performance stepped up with the engine, I am also doing the rest of the suspension with 14" brakes in the front - I just have to figure out the transmission to use with the engine after its built, since I am expecting 450hp range, or with forced induction likely over 600hp. There are some of these cars with Supra engines in them, and one guy in Florida is using a 5 speed manual on his and running 730+ hp at the rear wheels.
      I am about to installed a tuned ECU and 2800rpm stall torque converter which really wakes up the car.
      There are people out there playing with the 3UZ but not too many, and the ones that do are not trying to get as much power from the engine while naturally aspirated and using forced induction. I am using mine as an experiment to see how much more power can be extracted from this engine, and I think there is quite a bit more that can be extracted.
      I like the body kit, and one day I would like to get that same kit on mine after the performance is all dialed in.

      @heinkeld 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Neil E Neil E Hey, would love to get your attention here. this build is one of the best i’ve seen. My car is pearl white, CLEAN, saddle interior. What would you recommend for performance mods? Exhaust? i love how quiet they are, it’s like a low growl from a BIG dog. They aren’t screaming but you know the v8 sitting inside. However, a car with a grumble and some pops sounds good too. I’m not sure what to do. Keep the luxury sound, or listen to the power. Remove 1 cat, straight pipe, change muffler, or remove the resonators?
      What about tuning, suspension, maybe a small turbo?
      Would love to hear from someone that seems like they know this car inside and out.

    • @neile5558
      @neile5558  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@heinkeld Hi Dylan if you view the very long build thread on Lexus- World.com it covers these questions and more. Forced induction might be very tricky, third cat delete and a well designed exhaust might release 5 bhp, with headers 30-ish bhp is possible. You can get it to growl without being too intrusive inside the car. Suspension, most go for coil-overs and get good results, air suspension is practical. Up-rate the sway bars and that helps the handling too.

I just want you to help me w/ the backup cam, steering wheel, brakes, and fix my damn antenna - it broke. I have a 2010 black n tan. Great job. • @neile5558

      Yes the oem air filter is best. It's easy to buy a replacement antenna mast from Lexus. There are lots of tutorials on the Lexus forums for how to fit the mast into the aerial body or just replace the whole unit. Read 'a darker shade of grey' on Lexus World and you can see how I did the rear cam, brakes and the custom steering wheel. There are good examples of similar work on clublexus in the US too. 28 bhp upgrade according to the dyno figures but the car was running rich at the top end on the day. Tester said it was good for at least 317 bhp. The car has been improved since.

    • @neile5558

      The kit is simply an Imex style fibreglass kit from Poland, still available, not expensive to buy but as you can see in the vid and on the LW forum, I did modify it a fair bit. If you look on the forum the car has changed a little since I put this up.

I don't think it's ever going to be very popular but I hope it's helpful to any fellow SC430 owners. Do you belong to any car forums?

    • @neile5558
      @neile5558  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It would be cheaper to buy the car off me. 🙂More than £21k has been spent on modifications, paint and upgrades but I would estimate that a similar result could be achieved for between £12k and £15k if you don't re-paint the whole car. It also depends on how much you can do yourself. The car has been improved since the video with new wheels, improved rear spoiler, sat nav screen/obd display, etc and it's still only worth say £8-9k so you have to accept its a costly fun project.

      The kit is an IMEX copy from Poland with some modifications to make it that little bit different. The basic kit is fairly low cost in the UK but with all of the custom work and paint etc it's probably around £3500 GBP - more if a shop did all of the work. £2600 for the exhaust too, it's one of a kind.

      @neile5558  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vinnyrides It's not expensive so quality wasn't the best but with attention to detail in the fitting and finishing it can be made to look okay. Nice car, but why (since the beginning of youtube) does everybody think they have to play blaring dramatic music on a car build video?? Car guys want to hear the car, people talking about the build, dyno pulls, or nothing. Save the musical score for your next 'period romance drama' buddy. My girlfriend thought I was watching 'The Patriot' with Mel Gibson.

      Glad you like the car Ed. Sorry about the music, try earphones, headphones, lower the volume or hit the mute button. The real detail is on Lexus-World.com, so there's no attempt at commentary, this was just a quick go at a summary vid for maybe a dozen or so forum guys to chuckle at. I wasn't expecting 8000 views, a film review or a nomination for worst film score but thanks for the feedback.

      @@edjackson4389 Hi Ed, thanks and no worries at all, it made me laugh. If it's just the exhaust sound and not performance you seek, removing the centre resonators for straight pipes has a good effect. I would always retain a rear muffler but others disagree. There are several threads with debates devoted to exhaust options on Lexus-world and clublexus with sound clips. Hope to see you there. Well worth checking out with headphones before committing to a design. Headers and an X pipe are the route to a bit more power of course.
