Restoration AFRICAN Sword NIMCHA

- Hi! Today, the restoration of the African sword of Nimcha! So far, this is the rarest item that I have managed to restore so far! The sword was delivered to me from France. This item is the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th centuries. The blade is European, they were often used to create a Moroccan one. Well, I'm starting to restore this unique sword!
The blade of the sword.
First, I dismantled part of the old leather and the silver part from the scabbard. To clean the blade from rust and dirt, I put it in a rust remover. After this process, I placed the blade in warm water with baking soda to neutralize the acid. I polished the blade manually. I used sandpaper from 80 to 360 grit. Likewise, I cleaned and leveled the fullers on the blade using a low-speed milling cutter. Then manually using a grinding stone. After these processes, I cleaned the blade with a soft iron brush and solvent. After the blade was wiped dry, oiled and finished working with the blade, further mechanical influences could damage the antique object.
The handle.
This seemingly simple handle turned out to be much more difficult than I thought. I used mild steel, a piece of pipe, beech wood and brass. It took a long time to work on the handle and I did this type of sword handle for the first time, but everything turned out fine because it was necessary. This was the most difficult handle to date.
The scabbard of the sword.
I used wood for the scabbard, as well as thin natural leather. The scabbard had to be made very thin. I did not polish the upper part of the silver sheath fittings, but leveled the metal. Additionally, I made the fittings from an old sheet of nickel silver. Modestly decorated. And, as always, I can say it was one of the most difficult projects, but I finished it as always.
Test
I told you in detail and showed you how it works in the end of my video. I hope you enjoy this sword restoration, please share this video.
Sincerely, Alex. Thanks for attention!
Good luck and health to everyone! With best wishes, Alex!

Good grief Alex. You did an excellent job! A real beauty. We love so much watching you. We do realize that it takes a long time for you to present a 15 minute video and I appreciate the fact that you tell us how much time it really took you. Love from America Tom and Peggy!
Hey Tom and Peggy! ^_^ Thank you for your attention and kind feedback. Yes, the editing of this video took a very long time, but I am very glad that I completed it and was able to show you. With best wishes
I've been restoring blades of all kinds since 1977. You do fine work, especially considering the condition these projects. Thank you for your efforts, you are saving history, one piece of steel at a time!
👍👍👍
Thank you!
When I first started to watch your videos there was a few times I was thinking "What in the world is he doing there?" Now I just sit back and enjoy. You always do an amazing job. Dankeschoen!
Thanks for the feedback, sometimes when I review some projects myself, I don't understand how I did it?)))
@@ScrewsAndTools I love your work. Keep it up, brother.
Firstly, thank you so much ❤. You are the only restorer who shows his failures or blunders. But at the same time, with the help of the simplest tools, you make masterpieces. I don't have the words. Why so much patience?)❤
It’s because he loves what he does so much- he can’t not do it.
I see it in every project he undertakes. As another poster here said, sometimes I ask myself “what is he doing?” but every time it is clear that he has a vision in his head and *must* make it real no matter how much or how little he has to work with.
Alex, you are an inspiration.
Thank you very much! I am so happy to read the feedback. This is a strong motivator and energy for me! ^_^
I can always count on you, Alex, to give us the same great content. I know what to expect every time I watch your videos.

Astounding work Alex!
What can I say, you are true master of your work !!!
Thank you mate! Call me karachokheli :D

Very well done! Your ideas on this were very well executed.
So much work, and you continue to improve greatly, brilliant result.
The pleasure of attentively watching you restore the sword is second only to producing a fine piece of art and history.
🫡❤
Thank you!!
Another Masterpiece!! I do enjoy your work!!
Thanks!
Amazing work Alex! Congratulations!!!
WOW so much work so much detail great job
Alex, very brave you are to make all of it from scratch. Amazing, to say the minimum. I can't see more dedicated person doing it on TH-cam. Outstanding job again.
Thank you very much! So enjoy reading your feedback. Motivates !
Beautiful sword!
Beautiful work as always Maestro 👏
Beep beep 😊
That is a thing of beauty! You really have a feel for metal and leather. Congratulations for taking on project outside your experience and saving history with style.
I'm amazed at the research he did. He researched and built a (mostly correct) Moroccan-style handle and scabbard, instead of staying in his area of comfort.
Thank you so much!!
Yes, I always try to research an object before I start restoring it. Rarely does anyone notice this, you have noticed - thank you!
Truly amazing my friend! It's an absolute masterpiece! Beep! Beep!
That blade turned out beautiful! So much detail, you can tell that you took your time and it was a pleasure to watch it all come together.
Thanks!

Such a great work 😃😃
Great job alex.😎🇬🇧
One of your nicest work.....great handcraft
Thank you
Well done !
Your work just gets more intricate every time I see it, I like the addition of the timescale shown to give us the viewers a perspective of the amount of effort you put in to each piece, Much respect and best wishes from here in the UK.
Thank you so much for your attention and understanding
GREAT JOB! I am glad you dis not fill all the rust dimples but left it clean and raw!
Thanks ^_^
That was an amazing job sir
Amazing work Alex!
Abraço do Brasil !!
Bravo brother ❤
That sword just needed some tenderness to bring it back to life. African swords are always so elegant
That is a bad ass handle 👍🏼
This was fantastic! It ran through so many of your skills, which you should be very (and rightfully) proud of. Superb work, and a great end result. Please keep sharing the time frames too.
Thank you!!!
C'est merveilleux à regarder !!!!
What a marvelous job you did restoring that African nimcha sword. I neven saw anything like that before. It looks much better and it cuts like a knife. Excellent work.
Thank you!
Lovely to watch the rebith
I literally said “beep, beep” out loud when you started to sand 😂
What a strange, crazy, and beautiful concept. And totally unique to you. Stunning.
He meticulously recreated the common Nimcha handle (thre quillions, handguard, and 90-deegres hilt).
Yeah!
Thanks)
GOOD JOB BRO
VERY smart way to sand the blade 👍
You are an shesanishnavi craftsman. I really enjoy your videos 😀👍
Thank you ^_^
Beautiful 🎉🎉🎉
Thanks!
Great job restoring that blade! Video makes it look like it takes no time at all, but in reality, many hours are put into a project like this. I forge blades. I have 31 hours into a sword that I am currently working on and I would say that I am not half-way done yet. Thank you for your perseverance and your talent.
Thank you for feedback and wish you good luck.
In doing your quality restoration it pays to not hurry. Often it is less about the destination and more about the journey.
Alex, hello.
This time you have a difficult job. But you did it just great. ))) Thank you for the video. Good luck to you.
Thank you! Yeah it was so intresting and ...))
Wow, biggest job yet! So many parts to make, and an amazing result! Never heard of this type before, so off to do some research.
Wild that it still cuts without sharpening after all that time
A sword with a god primary bevel is always a minute with a honing stone away from being a razor 🙂 Spanish late military sword-sabers (meant to be primarily thrusting weapons) actually had deliberately a 0.5mm rounded "blunt" edge, because that way you won't cut yourself with them, but they're still capable of chopping at an enemy's head... exactly like this "unsharpened" nimcha chopped at a pumpkin.
ANd when you do some research, you'll laugh at how Alex even recreated the *thicc* Moroccan scabbards instead of his usual slimmer Caucasus ones 🙂
Yes, it was the most massive and difficult job. Thank you for your attention
By the way, yes, I have never made such a thin scabbard before. Because the accessories of the scabbard had to accommodate the scabbard + leather. It wasn't easy))
Nice!!
Cool sword
