I'm sorry friend you seem to be lost. This is Rastan the Bandit. He is completely and in all ways legally distinct from Conan the Barbarian. (I appreciate your reference to the conan cartoon though).
Also after beating a boss the u get an item which is a permanent buff to your character. The item logo is beside you heath bar. An other thing if u want to play all the stages with out getting bad fortunes by using continues, u have to go to the arcade dipswitch settings and turn on all stages.
I was curious about if Conan was public domain or not and it turns out; it's complicated! 🎉 So when Rastan was made probably less so. That games old enough that it probably was actionable if anyone cared. But these days Conan both IS and IS NOT in the public domain depending on what country you live in and which Conan stories you're talking about. After similarly looking up legal details after Matt's Rise of Kong video, which is even muddier, I'm glad to see such things are as clear as they ever were.
The rights for Conan were somehow acquired by Fredrik Malmberg in the early 2000s at a bargain bin price, who then licensed it out to various parties like the Jason Momoa movie and the Marvel comics which has been published since. I think recently he transferred the rights entirely to Funcom which he is also a major stakeholder in.
Yeah, Howard's Estate keeps a very tight grip on it, even though Roy Thompson has written more Conan stories at this point than Howard ever could have, lol.
This game looks cool! I hope Taito puts it on a new collection. They put god damn Dino Rex on the recent Switch collection (Taito Milestones 2... Which I bought specifically for that lmao), so I hope this gets the same treatment some day!
Hey, Matt McMuscles. I have some suggested beat 'em up games you should play in future videos. Battle Circuit (Capcom's last beat 'em up game for the Arcade.) Pirates of Dark Water (Super Nintendo) 64th Street: A Detective Story Armored Warriors Die Hard Arcade Burning Fight (Neo Geo) The Bouncer Ninja Baseball Bat Man Crimson Tears Hook (Arcade version) Undercover Cops Sengoku 3 Knights of the Round Gaia Crusaders Captain America and The Avengers Final Fight 2 Final Fight 3
May the force be with those barbarians always and I wonder if they could use a barbarian mind trick to make some sellers stop selling deathweed also this game is quick but cool
I love sitting down and debating which games have the best dragons. Usually at the gentleman's club over a brandy, while wearing monocles. Elden Ring does have magnificent dragons but Vagrant Story will always have my favourites.
Yeah, Rastan is pretty much a Conan knock-off, down to the fact that every game is from the perspective of Rastan as king telling the stories of his adventures. And I also agree, Revenge of Death Adder is pretty dope. One of the main reasons I spent $130 on importing an Astro City Mini. Also, what if I told you there was a fighting game with a playable dragon character who’s walking back animation involves giving their opponent the finger?
well i almost disowned, but you came back around. I've loved dragon since I was small, and it is a love that continues ever ever on. So you are forgiven this time.
@MyBrothersKeeper101 - It's good, but Combatribes was made by the Double Dragon director, is 3 players, and has alot of technique... particularly with the multiple grapple options + ground attacks. That game is SO underrated!
@@TexasHollowEarth It is always felt clunky I don't know what it was about it but it was sluggish. Played in the arcade quite a bit and on the SNES it's a good game it just never clicked with me. Literally is part of the Double Dragon franchise in my mind
U will never guess how to get the secret ending screen, u have to rotate the arcade stick in a circle after the ending dialogue or the credits I forget.
I also went through a "dragon's are overrated" phase. Today i fully acknowledge and appreciate how they are cool, but i still prefer other fantasy/mythology creatures that are less common. it's kinda like how jedi went from rare and mysterious and therefore interesting to so many i can't keep up. Also i tried to look up if there's a "good" ending but it seems the answer is no, just this: "the game even lets you choose which order you tackle its levels in. This seems irrelevant at first, however the game contains many bonus levels you can access based on your overall skill. Doing well in these levels bestows Rastan and his friends with items that permanently increase their abilities, or weaken their foes for the rest of the game. Depending on your skill, you can beat Warrior Blade by playing through as many as 14 levels."
Rastan 1 was supposed to be a Conan game, but they couldn't secure the license. They just made modest changes and released it anyway (I'm glad they did!). Rastan 2 is a turd and is the least Conan-like of the trilogy.
It looks like Rygar or Golden Axe from the arcades, which is ironic since, at the 2023 Video Game Awards, SEGA released a trailer of new reboots of their classic games including Golden Axe. Please be good, SEGA. :(
Sega Didn't exactly get away with the Shinobi crap (specifically the Revenge of Shinobi crap). It was hard to sue a Japanese company for copyright - in Japan. In the US the companies had US branches who had to deal with US law. That's why there's several versions of Revenge of Shinobi. After the original release, Rambo, Batman, and eventually Godzilla were "removed". Spiderman was retroactively licensed and eventually removed.
You could sue. Easily. A few pc88 games like Xanadu were sued because they ripped off Ultima artwork. The later copies of the game had the art replaced. I believe it was earlier than 92-93. I think the IP of Conan is just too vague unless the name is the name. Muscle dude in a loincloth is nit distinct.
There’s a better emulator that runs this rom better. Also any time u continue, u get a bad Fortune that send you to an extra bonus stage that’s tougher.
🎵 Conan the adventurer, Conan, Warrior without fear. He's more powerful than any man, his legend spread across the land and sea.🎵
I'm sorry friend you seem to be lost. This is Rastan the Bandit. He is completely and in all ways legally distinct from Conan the Barbarian.
(I appreciate your reference to the conan cartoon though).
Why do I hear DragonForce singing from the heavens?
Need more pomegranates
This theme song has been stuck in my head for about 30 years now.
CONAN, the mightiest warrior EVER
The dream of just finding a land where you can declare yourself King is one we all hold in our hearts.
The pixel art on this game looks gorgeous, man i love sword and sorcery art style of this era. And the big widescreen, super impressive for the time.
Also after beating a boss the u get an item which is a permanent buff to your character. The item logo is beside you heath bar. An other thing if u want to play all the stages with out getting bad fortunes by using continues, u have to go to the arcade dipswitch settings and turn on all stages.
Matt always did strike me as the kinda guy who is into fish men with a downstairs mix up and an insatiable thirst for balieys.
The crocodile men and the fish men teaming up killed me, its smelly in here lmfao!!!
Speaking of pirate ships, there's a Pirates of Dark Water beat-em-up that you could play.
I was curious about if Conan was public domain or not and it turns out; it's complicated! 🎉

Reminds me a lot of Golden Axe.
Was Dam Raimi's Hercules series out around this time? I swear Dewey is almost an Iolas expy.
Ha, I played through this on MAME years ago. It's certainly no Revenge of Death Adder, but it was goofy fun enough for a playthrough. Great video.
What is best in Life?!
... say the line Conan!
'Gift krake', from German, would be 'poison kraken'. Given that its bite appears to be fatally poisonous, that tracks.
Never look a gift kraken in the mouth.
Fighting while sliding down the mountain was so hype I got flashbacks to that Garo ps2 game you played a few months back.
This game looks cool! I hope Taito puts it on a new collection. They put god damn Dino Rex on the recent Switch collection (Taito Milestones 2... Which I bought specifically for that lmao), so I hope this gets the same treatment some day!

10,000,000 brownie points for Flight of Dragons name drop!!!!!!!! I still listen to the soundtrack often to sleep with!

i think a knockoff of Hyperborea would be Superaustria.

I've loved dragon since I was small, and it is a love that continues ever ever on. So you are forgiven this time.
So, that's it? Just like there's no King Connan, there's no King Rastan IV?
This was surprisingly good❤
I remember when Flight of Dragons premiered on TV. Todd's toys were sweet
I'd say after the🐉Double Dragon🐉 franchise Raston 1 and 3 are my favorite
... but Combatribes bro!?!
@@TexasHollowEarth What about P.O.W.

Dragons Crown
Fight N Rage
Ganryu 2
All of these are fantastic in their own right

You ever play Battle Circuit? I gave that one a try at Galloping Ghost, and it was pretty good!
This game seems pretty sick~!
Placidudesex is a sick-ass dragon for sure.
The fact that Matt knows the song "Maneater" by Nelly Furtado has both made my day & showcased how much of a GigaChad he is.
Okay, this game looks slick as hell, haha
Holy shit... the bad English is so beautiful. It's a thing of wonder, of pure beauty. MAY THE FORCE BE WITH US!
What happened to the Wizard guy at the beginning of the game? I assumed that he would occasionally show up so you could use his screen clearing magic?
13:34 You’ll thank me.

I am SHOCKED to learn that Matt went through a phase where he dismissed dragons as kinda lame. SHOCKED !
Now, you must endure… Notgoodlak!!!
Ever play EDF 4.1? GREAT game with dragons.
I don’t remember this swamp
Also known by another name, 'Rusty Axe' 👍
Have u ever played magic sword by capcom? It's a very similar game where u get characters to tag along and fight by ur side
23:36 isn't that the bad guy from the exorscist? Or this the cousin?
How the heck did I not know there was a Rastan 3!?!? 😮
Bonan the Carbarian!
This game is in Japanese, English, French and German at the same time. Amazing.
all hail fartlord

Rastan is Dollar Store brand Naruto.
This video doesn't do this game's graphics justice. Some crispy beautiful Sprite work.
Nobody did it like Taito

More like Don’t-ey.
I wish this is what the Golden Axe reboot looked like instead😢
we should maybe wait for more than 4 seconds of gameplay before judging
Rastan isn't a beatem up its a hack and slash

Mediocre game. All the hits feel hollow. Zero impact with anything. Bosses are lame and easy.
Knockoff Hyboria? Low-boring-ah?

May the copyright law be with you.
Dragons ARE lame.
The game looks cool… Mechanically it’s incredibly boring.
