Ah, I am also Jewish. My great great grandfather was first cantor & rabbi in The Great Synagogue of Sydney in the mid/late nineteenth century. I am currently researching many Jewish artists across many disciplines for a verse-novel that I am writing. I'm having a blast! Thanks for another great video. Very engaging.
Wow, it's amazing to hear about your great great grandfather!! Thank you so much for sharing that with me. I am also fascinated to hear about your current research, may you go from strength to strength.
@@theonlyrealproperty2567: I am deep into Lee Krasner & Mark Rothko at present, but I have also been investigating Clarice Lispector, Franz Kafka & Dannie Abse. I'm just following my nose really. Looking at Ancient Egypt through the lens of Freud's 'Moses & Monotheism' was a blast. I write about my rabbi forebear in my verse-novel also. It's been such a joy discovering your channel.
@@theonlyrealproperty2567: Yes, my family has always honoured this Jewish ancestry, but my Pa 'converted' to Christianity, & to 'Jews for Jesus' (unfortunately), so now we are a mixed bunch. Pa was a fantastic old bloke, a natural storyteller, quite a genius (without any formal schooling), & wondrously loving, but a very evangelical Christian.
The line between prose & poetry (especially in so much contemporary work) is a fine one, isn't it? I don't write prose poetry myself, but I certainly often enjoy reading it. I am not familiar with Heti, so thanks for another brilliant recommendation. I'm really enjoying your videos - thank you.
Now this is my kind of video! Indeed, my first thought when I checked this book out from the library for the first time was "where will they shelve this? It's poetry, right?" I also love Oulipo. My go-to Oulipan is Calvino. Is "Alphabetical Diaries" Oulipan? It is processed after the writing. It has a constraint in the editing, not the composing. That makes it more like an Oulipo-reminiscent editing project than an Oulipan writing project. But as everyone says, writing is editing... Elegant parataxis can be so powerful. I think that the (very good) writer Michael Clune often provides cool examples of this. I gotta order a copy of "The Weather"! It looks great!
Thanks for dropping by! Oh... yes... you are right ... I was wrong in referring to Oulipo. It's simply an editing constraint. I haven't heard of Michael Clune until now so thank you very much for the recommendation. Should I start with "White Out"? His critical work look fascinating as well. I really appreciate you taking the time to comment here!
@@theonlyrealproperty2567 I would say you're not wrong in bringing up Oulipo! And it's my pleasure! Your channel is of high quality. I personally recommend "Gamelife" as a place to start with Michael Clune, but "White Out" is also good. I had a friend who started with "White Out" and she loved it, couldn't put it down. So either is good, I'd say!
Hi again, I'm just popping in to assure you that I haven't forgotten your comment here and I am indeed working on a prose poetry video. Thanks to your encouragement I'm really enjoying the process!

I'd love to hear what you have to say on prose poetry :)
I’ll start gathering my thoughts. I’m so delighted to see you still here, made my day!!
