    What’s annoying about lucky hit is how much clearer they could have presented it to us. Instead of being a chance of a chance of something happening they could have just put the true proc rate on our abilities and made things On lucky hit- x happens. Then additional lucky hit chance obtained through gear or skills would just bump up the number we see on skills.

    The formula uses the BASE lucky hit value for Bone Spear, which is 50%. In the video, it shows 58% because the game automatically calculated the +8.4% and +8.1% from the ring and gloves respectively to make it show 58%.
    0.5 * (1 + 0.084 + 0.081) = 58.25% rounded down to 58%

      Funny. I always thought that lucky hit was a value that would happen by itself depending on the percentage in the skill or aspect. And thought that by getting additional lucky hit + would further increase additional chances in activating

    Great explanation. Just a quick note on your units, it is confusing when you mix percent and fraction. To make it clearer add a "%", such as
    Heal% = 0.5*0.05*1
    = 2.5%

    This makes so much more sense than what I had in my head. I thought when you saw an item that has say 5% lucky hit chance to restore health, if you had a passive 30% lucky hit chance, then there’d be a 35% chance on every hit to get that effect. And here I am wondering why me, with 6k hp, thinking ~1 in every 3 hits is going to heal me for 1000, why am I ever losing hp at all since I’m hitting stuff 3+ times a second.
    Anyway that’s for explaining it!

    I'm leveling an alt at the moment so I have the best tempers unlocked. Putting "Lucky hit: 40% chance to do [2000-4000] elemental [cold/fire/lightning/shadow] damage" on weapons is insanely powerful. Combine this with "Lucky hit: [15-20]% chance to apply a CC" everywhere else and (for a Rogue at least) 3 different ways to do "Lucky hit: trigger an arrow storm" and you're unstoppable.
    Lucky hit chance is really valuable, even when quite low. If you use it all over your gear, there's a very high chance of triggering something useful all the time. As you pointed out some skills are better suited than others to proc it. The 3-projectile spread of Puncture for Rogues is pretty effective. Fully buffed Barrage (piercing and ricochet) is amazing. Huge fun.

    It’s wild how little Lucky Hit Chance on gear seems to matter now. Perhaps for builds where they deal lots of ticks of small damage it’ll still find it’s uses, but I can’t imagine Lucky Hit gear making any noticeable difference in the long run for builds that deal chunks of one shot damage, like HotA Barb or Bone Necro.

    Great video! Just to make sure I haven't misunderstood something: if you have multiple LH effects, do they all have a chance to proc when LH happens? I'm assuming that is the case since I've seen nothing to the contrary, but I haven't built anything around LH so my personal data set is pretty limited. But if that is the case, you could collect LH effects as well a LH Chance to increase the probability of something happening on a LH.

    great video, but the main question i was trying to answer here still wasn't answered, so i'm wondering if you know the answer. i know lucky hit can trigger per monster hit, but do you know if a single cast can trigger multiple lucky hits? or does it just increase the probability that it will get a single lucky hit, but it's capped at one lucky hit per cast?

    Great video. I just wanna ask, with the comparison of the before and after with 2 items you used with lucky hit chance modifiers, one 8.4% and 8.1% which ultimately led to a difference of just 0.4% in the final computation, do you think it's worth getting items with lucky hit affixes? Like I'd definitely go for it if it's a difference of 5%. Or am I missing something? Thanks!

    • @jmikdouglas9283
      @jmikdouglas9283 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think this video is good but could be explained more simply. The Lucky hit stat just increases the base lucky hit chance of a skill by that %. For example the sorc meteor has 40% base lucky hit chance. With 3 points in their lucky hit passive that grants them 15% luck hit (5% per rank) and a upgraded wand that grants 15% lucky hit as well, that’s 30% lucky hit. 30% of 40 is 12. Now meteor has a 52% lucky hit chance. Now what you’re basically asking is , Is that 2 in 52 that important? In this case It doesn’t matter . Because 5% of 40 is 2. Which means you can take a point out of the lucky hit passive and put it somewhere else

    • @iampanax
      @iampanax  ปีที่แล้ว

      I've only played Necro so I can only comment on that but from what I've seen, it depends on the build. So for this example, Bone Spear Necro, you want to focus on Crit Dmg, Crit Chance, and Max Essence since we are just throwing one spear at a time.
      There is a Necro build called Infinimist that has multiple attack ticks per second that focuses on maxing out Lucky Hit Chance, but that seems like more of the exception than anything since most builds are focusing on Crit/Vulnerable damage.

    • @bagboybrown
      @bagboybrown ปีที่แล้ว

      They're additive bonuses so let's say you have 8% LH on gloves and 8% LH on a ring. You have 16% Lucky Hit Bonus.
      You then multiply the proc coefficient of the skill you're using (HoTA is 50%) by your lucky hit bonus so it looks like this: 0.5 * 1.16 = 58%
      The LH chance to proc a random skill is say 5%. With no lucky hit bonus at all, that's 1 in every 40 uses of the skill on average. With 16% lucky hit bonus, it's slightly less.
      Bottom line, don't put LH on gear.

      @@iampanaxsorc is very similar but we also like lucky hit since it allows us all the fancy shit with our builds and with our utility for infinite Mana builds. Also, when a legendary aspect says "Imbued: Lucky Hit: ........" Does that mean that everything in orange only happens on the off chance you get a lucky hit? For example: "Imprinted: Lucky Hit: Critical Strikes with Marksman Skills have up to a 54% chance to grant a free Dark Shroud Shadow." Does that mean when I get critical strike I get a dark shroud or when I get a lucky hit I get a critical strike with a dark shroud?

    Butchers cleaver: on lucky hit 100% chance to fear the enemy
    If I equip rings that boost lucky hit, does this actually help?
    Since the 100% can't go higher?
    So do the % of lucky hit chance effect the Lucky hit chance of the attack or the chance of the proc?

    • @shishka3116
      @shishka3116 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It means that IF lucky hit occurs THEN you have a 100% chance to fear the enemy. Meaning, you have to activate the lucky hit first which you do by increasing your lucky hit chance. So, the 100% means nothing and will never be activated unless you have a lucky hit chance of some sort.

    I think you're wrong with stating that hitting 20 enemies increases the chance that it procs. For example, if you cast a hydra on a sorceress that shoots 40x over its 10 s duration with a lucky hit of 90% - you'll only see ONE (0.9 procs) of lucky hit, despite the spell actually "hitting" enemies 40 times. Thus, I think lucky hit is/can only be activated once per cast.

      @@JJV7243 The hydra might work like shadow clone does for rogue. It doesn't get any of the buffs or skill abilities that you add via gear and skill points. • @Khaztr
      @Khaztr ปีที่แล้ว

      You're comparing an AoE ability to a unit's attack. AoE's will roll per target hit. A unit will roll per attack. I watched the entire video, repeated some sections. I didn't understand a single thing. Moving the decimal fucked with my brain. I don't know why you do that. With a shitton of items that give you increased lucky hit chance, the final chance to apply that lucky hit effect is only around 2.9%. After taking into account the 58% lucky hit chance from the skill and all the other lucky hit chances from the items.
    What?
    The level of convolutedness in this thing is mind-blowing. I honestly want to know how anyone finds out how to calculate the lucky hit chance when the game doesn't tell you anywhere. How? Where?
    P.S. - I'm not saying the video does a bad job at explaining the thing. But in all honesty, this is some otherworldly stuff for me. I literally can't understand how it works after watching it, lmfao

    It's just so bad.. I mean you gotta scounge up for Lucky hit chance and still get gimped by the effect's chance, so it might never even happen.
    And ofc Blizzard insists on using the most absurdly unclear language they can possibly manage to confuse people into looking up explanations.

    Its pretty much useless ???

    • @doormatt72
      @doormatt72 ปีที่แล้ว

      it depends on the skill's lucky hit chance and the value of the proc. for example - ice shards hits a lot of guys (with the aspect) and has a high lucky hit chance of 16%, and avalanche is insane. so it's great there. if you try to do the same with frozen orb, which has a 4% lucky hit chance... it's pretty terrible.

    So 50% of the time it works 8% of the time. Diablo seems to love percents of percents, its very non-intuitive and hard to truely understand the impact of gear interactions. Bad design.

    I can absolutely guarantee you that Blizzard will dumb this down and change it over the next few months. I dont mind it but there will be people who will never understand it no matter how you explain it to them. It'll probably end up as just one percentage with no forumula.

    Ok, so to all those who said the video is excellent, ez to understand, and has helped them understand lucky hit, pls explain in your own words how lucky hit works based on this vid. Based on anything, for that matter.

    It's still making me scratch my head because of the maths, but based on what I can tell.. if I have a skill that has lucky hit chance, and an effect that can happen on lucky hit, with my items raising the chance of lucky hit, all I really need is super fast attack speed and then there's a high chance of getting the lucky hit!

    Lucky hit is simple.
    Your skill has 15% lucky hit with 0% lucky hit chance in your tool tip. You get 100% lucky hit chance, your skill now has 30% lucky hit chance. Enjoy!
