- It's essentially impossible to find games that literally nobody hates, but I'm giving it my best shot! In this video, I'll be going over 5 different games that I feel come the closest to universal praise.

“You don’t deSERve to Donkey Kong” will always be funny 😂
I say this to myself almost every day 🤣🤣
My God do I love it 😂
*Danky Kang 😹
You mean it’s a joke that nobody hates 😂
He should put it on a shirt at this point.
Man I love that "You don't deserve to Donkey Kong" has become a recurring gag.
Totally bananas.
@@MyMomSaysImKeen There's no denying the game has Appeal.
“You don’t deserve to Donkey Kong” is the best running gag ever
😂😂 greatest of all time
I don't get it
@@mugsofmirth8101 it’s from a previous video of his talking about how sometimes we feel guilty about playing games. Like if you haven’t finished literally every chore on earth, there’s that nagging voice that says that you don’t deserve to play games
As the great Sun Tzu once said:
_"For every game out there, there exists a superfan, and an equally vocal superhater."_
-Sun Tzu (the guy who said this quote)
Ahead of his time, that guy.
"I never said that shit"
--Sun Tzu
"We have a great zoo."
-Sun Zoo
@@ericd1022 "Yes he did."
-Sun Tzu Jr.
Damn guys I got the outdated copy of The Art of War
You have an ability to talk about hatred and make it light-hearted entertainment. A gift everyone should have, they dont deserve the donkey kong.
Diving into the unknown was what made games so magical back in the day, I had 0 idea about the games I bought, no reviews, no 5 hour video essays saying it’s good or bad, no Great Wall of China sized Reddit posts, no dumbass game of the year debates, the only thing I had to go with are either the cover, maybe the company logo and maybe friend’s recommendation as being the best pointer thats pretty much it, there is a sense of excitement and magic that this had on games of the past.
I miss this so much. Been trying to avoid spoilers and discussion onto things nowadays to recapture it. But it's just not quite the same when you know how accessible the information is. Part of the magic as a kid was wanting all the info on the game and that feeding into your immersion. Alas.
Birds of a retro feather, flock together
Mario 3 is a strong contender for best game ever for me. I truly dont understand how anyone could hate it.
It's still my favorite game after all these years 😄
Played it way more than Super Mario World. How did Nintendo squeeze all of that power out of the NES.
@@Gamevet It had a chip that enhanced nes capabilities.
@@eatthewoke5170 It had bank switching. It was pretty much 4 boards of memory that could be switched between to allow for bigger carts. Still, the art and variety of the levels benefitted from that large cache of cart memory.
@@eatthewoke5170 Not really, everything you see on screen in a mario3 level is just the base NES doing its thing. Like the other guy said, it had bank switching but that was just so they could fit more than 2-3 levels' worth of graphics on the cart, and this was a fairly standard thing that most other games on the NES as well as other systems did, so it can't really be counted as "enhancement".
I just want to say that I sincerely look forward to each of your videos. I even showed my wife this video and she laughed at the “cherry’s suck” part! lol
For the last two weeks in work I've been really busy with loads to get through. Every time I turned on the Gamecube all I could hear was bird saying "You don't deserve to donkey Kong" 😅
"You don’t deserve to Donkey Kong" gets me everytime :D
How did Bubsy not make this list? Nobody hates Bubsy.
are you _pawsitive?_
haha :)
Everyone hates bubsy
The 16 bit Bubsy games are actually pretty good. The majority of the hate mainly comes from Bubsy 3D and people that haven’t given the games an actual chance
@@turbomarioHey, I thought I saw Elvis back there!
Good list! Makes me think of a related (but slightly different) idea: "games that live up to the hype". For me, the top of that list has to be Chrono Trigger.
It's kinda funny to look back on the hype around F-Zero, because the view from today you'd think Nintendo has always lead with Mario Kart as its primary racing game. I remember that they were really pushing F-Zero in 1992, though maybe that had to do with the system recently coming out, but then Mario Kart came along and that was it. Then we had a proper 3D Mario Kart 64 and the rest was history.
I choose to believe no one hates classic Sonic. People who hate classic Sonic are just badniks that haven't been cracked yet.
Yeah Totally classic sonic is like retro gaming comfort food
Everbody loved Sonic back in the day.
Except for Superstars probably
@@kabelriney9578 she said classic not new
I did not enjoy the first one. I felt that I was watching the game more than I was actually playing it.
Hey Retro Bird, your content is always so cool and fun to watch!
I was wondering, how do you film your CRT? It always looks so good on camera.
With a lot of tinkering and patience haha! It's very temperamental. Thank you. Main thing is to adjust the camera's shutter speed.. but even then, I find it to be finicky.
Will do, I appreciate the advice!
OG Bomberman is a brutal single player gauntlet. I love it.
These are all great! I'd have to add Sonic 2 and Streets of Rage 2 though. :)
Sonic 3
Youre spot on! Except for Shinobi usurping Metal Slug
Saturn Bomberman is my favorite video game of all time. 1997 till now. Great party game with the crew.
Saturn bomberman is fantastic. I always wanted to try the 10 player mode.
@@System_Sega Its awesome. Even better with the secret mechadino that comes down from the bonus game. Hilarity !
When i was growing up my parents never bought me any video games. So i took an old picture of them & put your catch phrase on it:
"You Don't Deserve to Donkey Kong!" Makes me laugh every time i walk by it!
Retro Bird, it is time to sell "You don't deserve to Donkey Kong" merchandise!
I LOVE me some Retrobird. Matt, you are a jewel of YT content
Great list!
Made me remember playing Bomberman with relatives and friends back in the day - it was our go to party game!!
Bomberman: Act Zero. The gritty sci-fi series reboot for Xbox 360 that nobody asked for. I've never played it but it immediately came to mind when you mentioned the beloved Bomberman series.
Haha the cover alone on that one. What were they thinking?
that game feels like a fake bomber man for some reason
I allways feel so great watching your videos. Your channel is such a safe space to discuss games which got me thinking, mabey you could make a video about safe-spaces in gaming? Would love to hear more about your experiences with different comunities!
Matthew, why is your closing song so damn catchy? I have that ear-worm for at least a day every time I hear it, can;t stop singing it, arghh!! But what are the words after the second "he's the Retro-bird..." at the end, I can't make them out!! Love your channel, so funny.
"and he hopes that you liked what he had to say"
@@RetroBirdGaming Thank you, keep up the great work.
I find your videos strikingly accurate. Love your channel.
Wii Sports has to be on this list. It turned people who avoided video games for 40 years into gamers. The cultural impact is huge.
Bomberman is one of those games everyone loves but Ive never really seen anyone play it, or have it
Shinobi III is legit my favorite Shinobi game of all time! Great choices!!!!!
Next grocery trip will involve standing in the produce section bellowing "I hate cherries!". Thank you.
I found a way to hate Bomberman: Bomberman Act Zero
Bomberman has a ton of great memories wrapped up in it for me. My step grandmother loved it and played it all the time. Me and my brothers always thought that was so awesome. She always called it “Bummer Man” Haha. Miss you, Peg Peg.
Very good list. Got me thinking what I'd put on mine.
First game that came to mind was Worms. Can always count on it to provide a few laughs with a group of friends.
NBA Jam would be another good contender. It’s my go to game for something everyone will like.
Bomberman are possibly the best couch coop games ever. More nights of laughing than most games combined
I've never seen anyone talk trash about The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.
Just the other week I saw someone call it badly designed garbage. Something about how modern 3D zeldas are so much better. Some people just go through life like monkeys who are only impressed by shiny thing.
Only fanboys of some other particular console would likely hate on one of the widely regarded greatest games ever made imo.
It's ugly
@@kurtshastany1945 There's a reason there are countless indie game projects and fan art projects all imitating the style of aLttP, and it's not just cause of nostalgia (people who weren't even born when it came out are doing it too). They have something called taste. ;)
@@kurtshastany1945 I think your ignorance of art and maybe a confusion between the actual visuals vs graphics technology in video games, as well as possibly some likely just pure bitter and butthurt fanboy trolling, makes you equate simple and clean and widely appealing aesthetics with ugly.
I get the sense if it's not low colour and dull yet also garish at the same time, as well as throwing around a lot of unnecessary explosions and other crap on-screen to misdirect and distract you from the actual quality of art on display, it generally doesn't count as good looking to you.
Now, I could be wrong, but I'm happy to call it as a see it and let the chips fall where they may.
Never once seen any hate for Simpsons Arcade, but there's a first for everything
Back in my childhood we didn't hate any game. We loved all of them. Once myself or some of my friends got a new cartridge/disc we were living there for a while.
I'm a credit to this video. I don't hate any of these games!
Cool thing about Hyperstone Heist is it’s a solid variation on the Turtles in Time formula especially if you’ve already played the original to death. It mixes it up!
I played through TMNT 2: The Arcade Game on NES so many times that I already know that I love TMNT: Turtles in Time: The Hyperstone Heist, and I haven't played through them yet. And it isn't only because April looks really good at the beginning.
“You don’t desSerVe da Donkey Konggg…” 2:34
I do not hate any of the games on your list. Well done.
Classic Bomberman doesn't get hate but Bomberman 64 does for sure. Great video!
Such an underrated creator.
Holy heck~ A Video about a top w/e that Nobody and no one hates? Subscribed. 😄
Bomberman 2 for SNES is the definitive bomberman! Not the ones with the kangeroos. No no no ;)
Hear hear!
Bird, we need a video all about bananas in video games. And an explanation of why you like them so much! (They are so tasty in smoothies!)
A special banana video will be done at some point! Maybe for a subscriber milestone or something.
Everybody likes ice cream? Brain freeze says hi.
You're not human if you hate Donkey Kong Country. Therefore, you don't deserve to Donkey Kong...you don't deserve to Donkey Kong...you don't deserve...
Apes deSERVE to Donkey Kong…
Very accurate list. Starting strong with Mario 3, one of the best and most replayable games of all time.
Was not expecting Shinobi III. That's one of my favorite games!
So true. When it comes to games, you just have to try it yourself to see if you like it or not.
I loaned my super Nintendo classic and N64 everdrive to my church a couple of years ago and on both consoles, Bomberman never fails to please even this Young generation. Nobody hates Bomberman.
Another great vid!
Bomberman Saturn edition! 10 Player Mayhem!!!
This reminds me of the time I made that "5 fruits that nobody hates" video and didn't include bananas, and some guy was really mad about it
I was a little surprised Sonic the Hedgehog 2 wasn’t on this list, but I think it falls well within the same category as SMB3/SMBW. I would also add X-Men Children of the Atom to this list though :)
There was that whole "Sonic was never good" thing a while ago. Personally I never got into them either. Focus on speed but then randomly stopping the player with awfully designed slow platforming sections, gets frustrating. Not saying I'm right, but there's a lot of people who do feel this way.
"Video Games Nobody Hates"
Starts video off with TMNT IV: Turtles In Time
I like you RetroBird
Mario Kart 8 had a massive flaw back at release, specifically Battle Mode was a complete travesty and a lot of people hated it for that. Since then with the Deluxe release, they actually made a battle mode and now that flaw is gone. I think people don't like it simply because it's still the newest Mario Kart we've gotten in a whole decade (excluding Tour or Live Circuit.)
Solid choices good Sir!
I'm surprised Tetris wasn't on the list. No one can hate Tetris...
1) Contra III : The Alien Wars on Super Famicom
2) Tetris on OG Game Boy
3) Elemental Master on Mega Drive
4) The Legendary Axe on Pc Engine
5) International Karate Plus on Commodore 64
CHEERS mate... : )
Personally I would have put Mario kart 64 as the most un-hate-able Mario kart game but that's just me. The 64 rainbow road song is a real banger.
Love what you got to say at the beginning. I've noticed that people do this kind of thing in the comment section of my shorts as well. They'll talk about things that are unrelated to the actual content I've uploaded and expect to get like a positive response to get people to agree with them. Or they'll say something that most people disagree with and expect to get a ton of likes and say something negative about somebody that's in the short I uploaded and it's like come on quit it You're not going to actually be popular by doing that.
So far, I never met in my entire life anybody hating Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing.
I mean, alright, I admit that I've never met anybody who PLAYED it, but still...
i've heard people say double dash is bad because of the physics and drift control, and the same argument applies to super mario kart. i think mk8dx having buttery smooth controls just ruined those games for certain people.
I honestly think the Game Boy version of Tetris is basically a perfect game. Same with Super Mario World. Ooh, and Kirby Super Star on the SNES. Also, Mega Man X.
Yeah, I mean seriously, is there anyone who actually hates Game Boy Tetris?
For me, it's kinda flawless for what it is. I mean, it's very simple and pure and doesn't have cutting edge graphics and endless gameplay modes and stuff, which some fools might honestly equate to bad or something ridiculous like that, but I would say there's not one thing about it that is actually objectively flawed or bad in the slightest. Simple, but perfect in that.
Now, the Game Boy screen itself is trash, but that's not the game, just a limitation of the extremely old tech. Put that exact Tetris game on a Game Boy with some brand new OLED display or whatever, and it's pretty much perfect.
There are few games I would call basically perfect, but Tetris is one I'm comfortable labelling as such.
@@inceptionalidk what's the deal with game modes
I see that complaint in many places
has there not ever been a simple game mode like the gameboy one?
This was a spot on list, I'd say. The comments about people who don't even care for video games that dig Mario Kart is very true. The only one I can't be sure of is Bomberman, but that's only because no kids I knew had any of those games and I never played it until adulthood. So in my small sample size, I don't know if that's a game people would universally typically like.
I've never seen anyone hating on Mischief Makers.
😂 I once commented on your video as I don’t understand why people like Donkey Kong Country but I like games no one likes so it is what it is and people were so mad at me.
I literally spit out my food at the "cherries suck" analogy 😂
Ahhh Bomberman, so many memories from childhood playing it multiplayer with my friends. How can anybody hate that.
I've never gotten into bomberman, mainly because i suck at it so much lol. I don't know what it is about it. I'm not usually bad at games, but bomberman just confuses the heck out of me and i usually die almost right away in mp matches.
But I've never seen it as a failing of the game but more like something wrong with my brain, lol.
It is a very bad influence on the youth. It encourages running around placing explosive material in order to inflict damage on other people.
Tetris comes to mind when I think about a game nobody hates. I don't think I've ever heard anyone bash Tetris. Even my mom liked Tetris.
I love Tetris now, but when I was a kid I hated it. I was stuck with that game when I first got the gameboy, and when I finally got a Mario game I was begging for, it was Dr Mario 😭😭😭 today I love all 3 of these games. Original Mario Land is still my fave Mario.
Tetris sucks and is boring. I know tons of people who hate it. RB hates it too so it's not in this video, previously stated it was boring and repetitive in more than one other video.
Tetris is ok.
@@mattfisher1916 You don't deserve to Tetris
@mattfisher1916 Whoa, don't misrepresent me there. I've recommended Tetris multiple times, pointing out that other people find it to be a boring choice and are disappointed when I bring it up.
Great video! Can you do the water drinking thing again? I forgot how to consume my daily required water intake.
Good game selection, Mr. Bird. I actually don't hate any of those, especially Sega Rally!
Right there with ya on Red Delicious apples. Yuck 😂
Happy Friday Retro Bird! 😊
Love some BomberMan !
💣👨🚀💣 👍😎
Yes!
Nice Meeting yoy at Disneyland Today! Good luck Finding Donald!
It was great to meet you too!
It was awesome to meet and get to chat with you Barry! We found Donald too based on your tips - thank you!
You didn't even NEED to mention Tetris!
I think it's interesting that people hate a thing that they don't ever have to interact with.
But I just think it's fine. They can say what they want. They expose themselves for being either extremely pampered or insane.
Oh, and nobody hates F-Zero. Any version.
It's a good thing you picked MK8 as that series' entry to mention here because, uh, I don't think many people are particularly fond of something like Super Circuit...
It's me I'm the one fond of super circuit
What cc is this Donkey Kong footage? Dude is absolutely getting it.
Great topic. To be fair, there are lots of games that I don't care for or that I really dislike, but hating them, I don't know
I feel like NiGHTS is a game that nobody particularly hates.
While there's lots of people that don't understand exactly what to do in the game to get good scores
(as it's not fully explained in the game or manual [specifically BONUS TIME; even to this day most people just go straight to the next course wondering why they're getting C's; using zero of the bonus time, where points are doubled] ).
But i've never seen anyone actually say they hate the game; just that they dont understand it.
1 for 1 with your first choice
2 for 2 on the second choice. Not as popular but I've never heard complaints lol.
3 for 3. Only complaints were difficulty but never the quality.
Ooooh a very close one on the 4th. But I agree. Too hard is the only complaint
And the final game is just icing. 5 for 5, Bird. Great job!
I can't be the only one who, when playing TMNT: TURTLES IN TIME, regardless of the Arcade or SNES version, gets nostalgic vibes of Chuck E. Cheese's. Being how this game most likely was seen and played there. Which adds to the enjoyment of the game's quality, you just described in this video.
I'll admit I am not a big fan of Mario 3. I think Mario 2 is better. Mario 3 took away the ability to switch characters with different abilities and grab items that was in that game. Yeah, I know SMB2 is a re-skin of Doki Doki Panic, but that game had more interesting things going on in it for me than Mario 3. Mario 3 is still a great game though. But not my favorite.
Agreed
The worst part is that in SMB3 Luigi is a GREEN MARIO AGAIN!1!1!1
A link to the past is another such game
I recall renting Death and Return of Superman and Marvel War or the gems, both for SNES, thinking nobody would hate big detailed sprites Super-hero Action, but later found out my brother was angry because He did not like beat'em ups. That shocked me as a kid.
Good video! I mean, nobody hates Retro Bird...how could they? I haven't played Shinobi III yet, but the other games listed here are my childhood favorites.
There are many retro games I almost never see hate for like Mega Man X (the first one specifically), Ristar, Sonic 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Banjo-Kazooie, Kirby's Adventure, Mega Man 9, Donkey Kong Country 2, Yoshi's Island, Super Metroid, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG, Earthworm Jim, Castlevania Symphony of the Night, Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time, Mario Party 2, and Diddy Kong Racing.
Though, I know there are haters for nearly anything. I honestly can't really think of a game I utterly loathe except maybe Paper Mario Sticker Star.
You list all these iconic games and then Mega Man 9?
I think you meant Mega Man 2.
"Sonic was never good" ring a bell? lol
@@richfutrell753 I was going to put Mega Man 2 initially, but I thought about and I have heard there are plenty of people that don't like it for whatever reason. However, when Mega Man 9 came out, it pretty much got universal praise as one of the best "classic" Mega Man games.
I rarely saw any hate for 9 and I've heard from plenty of sources that it even beat out any of the NES games as their favorite Mega Man. I mean, feel free to substitute Mega Man 2 for 9, but that has just been my personal experience.
"You don't deserve to donkey kong..." 😂😂
I am not a fan of Streets of Rage 4 for not implementing the improvements in move sets from Streets of Rage 3.
Resident Evil 2.
GTA: San Andreas.
Tekken series(You might hate it but you Respect it, don't lie).
Batman Arkham series.
Marvel vs Capcom 2.
Capcom vs SNK 2.
A Wiseman once said. Nanners rock
Very nice choices :)
Those Revenge of Shinobi butt kickings had me sitting on a bag of frozen peas.
my pov :Super Mario Bros. 2 has a slight edged over Super Mario Bros. 3
Same here, but this doesn't mean I hate 3, of course
Red Dead Redemption 2 and The Witcher 3 are two games that come to mind. It's fair if somebody says they don't derive entertainment value from one or either- i.e., if you find riding vast distances on horseback through (mostly) empty frontier territory to be boring. But anybody who tries to claim either game is anything short of a cinematic masterpiece is being ardently contrarian. It's like saying Goodfellas is a poorly-made movie.
