    Probably the only real review on this camera. I couldn't find any before and skipped on this camera. Got GRD III instead.

    I just got a GX200 a few days ago and am already loving it - especially the EVF. Also loving the zoom feature and the easy menu navigation. Ricoh colors look great…. And It’s a nice companion to my GRII ! Thx for the review Juan.

    Thank you for this review :-)
    When you stay at ISO 64 or 100, also the colours can look really beautiful (from RAW even better).
    The lens is sharp wide open and the ability to focus up to 4 cm at the tele end makes it a fantastic tool for the small things, too.
    I love this little cam, that I bought used for cheap € 45 in early 2021 - EVF included.

    Thanks to you Juan, I recently picked up one of these GX200 cameras (to exist alongside my GR II and beloved Olympus cameras) The GX is indeed a jewel and it is remarkable just how little love or coverage this little beauty has had here on the internet. A few interesting text reviews, but very little if any, at least nothing like yours here, TH-cam videos. I found that if using it with a fast class10 SD card from Sandisk for eg, the RAW write time is actually pretty fast writing files in less than a second. In size too, the GX is roughly the same dimensions as the GRIII which isn't a bad thing at all, especially considering the zoom is also quite remarkable in such a tiny package. I really hope the GX becomes a classic in the same way the GRD range has. It certainly deserves it. Oh, one last thing, although it has no shutter priority mode, this can kind of be faked using the scene setting set to 'Sports' mode. Snap focus still being available.

    Another lovely review. Thanks. It is about time someone gives this camera some special love. For gritty, b&w street photography, this camera is a natural. The pictures are very film-like, may be due to its ccd sensor. Who knows, it may become another cult classic like grd and gxr.

    I looked at getting this camera a little while ago for similar reasons to the ones you've mentioned. I decided I couldn't really justify it since I already have the Olympus XZ-1 which I assume would be pretty similar image quality wise. So I figured all I would be missing out on was the famous Ricoh handling which if I'm realistic, I can totally live without. The internet has a strong tendency to hype up features on cameras like it's totally make or break, when in reality and real life use it usually makes very little difference. Gotta keep a cool head about these things. ;-)
    Thanks for another great video! Love your channel!

    Finally a video that does this little camera justice. Well done. I got mine for free, the person who sold it to me did not realize that it had gathered dust in the lens. I showed him pics, asked if I could get my money back. He responded by telling me to keep it and good luck trying to clean the lens. Well... I did, the pics are nice, sharp, crisp. I like the fact that you can take pics with one hand. It took a bit to understand the camera and let it do it's own thing. I have a Fuji, a Sony and a Canon. Guess which one I use most? Once again thanks for posting this video.

      Benny, did you have to dismantle the camera or is the lens assembly removable?

    • @tomfenn7149
      @tomfenn7149 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@alex-reay I imagine it comes apart pretty much in the same way as the GR's do. You probably wouldn't have to open the lens up as some have done (including me) to replace the bad cable, but where the dust mostly collects is not on the sensor, but on the IR filter that sits between lens and sensor. But before pulling apart, try Michael Kowalczyk's suggestion of using an electric toothbrush held to the side of the camera for a few seconds to dislodge the dust.

    • @alex-reay
      @alex-reay ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @tomfenn7149
      @tomfenn7149 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@alex-reay how are you positioning the camera? Try it by standing the camera upright so the sensor is perpendicular with the table. It’s an odd one for Olympus because usually their ultrasonic sensor dust cleaning system is pretty effective. But of course it won’t necessarily shift sticky particles that contain resin or oil. For that you’d need to take it apart and use a proper sensor cleaning kit.

    • @alex-reay
      @alex-reay ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tomfenn7149 thanks Tom. I don't think the XZ-1 has an ultrasonic dust removal system so I tried doing exactly as you said but no joy..... yet. Maybe I'll try holding my drill next to it 😁

    If you turn off the camera with the EVF only function on (no screen), then when you turn back on does it stay in that setting or default back to screen on?
    I've got a GX1 Panasonic which powers on and stays with screen of in the last setting I had it in.
    Which I like, but my Nikon V3 defaults back to screen.
    Both of those have accessory EVF's too.
    Hope you can answer.
    Thanks.

      Snap focus, but keep in mind thia camera only has one distance, 2.5m iirc.
      No auto ISO because it's so noisy over 400. Often I'll shoot in A aperture priority at about 4 or 5.6, keeping an eye on shutter speed so it doesn't get under say 250 or so.

    Hello, nice review! I have the GX100 (older brother) and I am still searching for the right street settings. Which settings do you use for street and regular snapshots? Regards, Jim

    • @JuanBuhler
      @JuanBuhler  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For simplicity, I'd leave the camera at ISO 100, or 200 if you're comfortable with the grain, and then use aperture priority, keeping an eye on the shutter speed so it's always 1/200s or faster... It's a bummer, and super strange that there's no shutter priority in these cameras.
