Hi Matt. Another great video. Really good seeing all these different grounds. I've been to see Dereham v Soham town today , there were 3 old Gills supporters there. Dennis started supporting them in the 50s, me in the 60s and Mark in the early 70s. Lots to talk about . Lol. Keep up the good work. Dave. U T G.
Good podcast, nice little ground, good shout out to the Southport fans, i remember going to see them play Gills . Back in the day we signed their center forward Mick Bickle, it was a shame when they were voted out of the League
I’ve been there for an Oxford United game as their women’s team play at Oxford City. not a bad ground, I like the gates from the old ground but I always like it when a club retains part of their history when they move stadiums
In answer to your question, Oxford United fans go to Oxford City games, myself included, and every pre season they play a friendly at Oxford City, there’s no rivalry, United usually loan a few players to City aswell
@@mattthegroundhopper9242 Echo what Carl said - as a yellows fan, completely agree, and indeed they're kind of a feeder club. Not sure we'll have played each other in a competitive league game since the Southern League days...
@@mattthegroundhopper9242 I was up till last year, now I'm based in Eastbourne and trying the non leagues clubs in Sussex and South East. I do try and take in a OCFC match when back in Oxford, will always be home!
Tonight gone to watch Hastings United v Whitehawk. Two parts of the ground got an 80s division 4 feel about it. Loads of room if they ever need to extend
Interesting little ground, definitely more of a subbuteo ground than that other ground you called the subbuteo ground few videos back, quality content as always fella, maybe do yourself 2 tables next season, 1 for bottles & 1 for cans, when no bottles available, so you always get your coke & mars feature on, always miss it when you can’t do it, as I find it interesting the variety of differences between the prices at all the grounds
@ nah, I just said I miss it when you can’t do coke & mars, I never noticed the comment by whoever suggesting that, I remember you mentioning it in last weeks video though, that’s why I suggested that maybe next season, you should do coke & mars as usual, but in 2 tables, 1 cans & 1 bottles, for when you can’t get bottles
You should do some research into Oxford City's old ground which was situated more in the city. They played in the Isthmian League until the late eighties. 1900 to 1988. They had another ground before moving to Marston in 1993. The White House ground was their spiritual home though before the club was reformed.
Hi Matt Personally I don’t like grounds with the different little stands as it’s hard to get a good atmosphere. Must difficult for the club to be viable with such small clubs and am wondering, how much do the officials get paid at NLS level? Only 2 steps off EFL after all Good vid …thanks for posting
Thanks Jeremy, for me the visit is more from a unique experience as opposed to the atmosphere, however they probably had some decent atmospheres last season in the National League 👍🏻⚽️
Three different Leagues last three years for oxford city; National League south, national league and now national league north.😮 i would like to invite you to a Balham fc home match to Guildford city in mitcham area on 16th November this month Matt if you are able to come to this game for YT.😅
Thanks for your comments and invite 👍🏻 I know you have invited me a few times to Balham and I promise to come at some point in the future. However I have the next few weekends planned. P.S. I’ll try and get a couple of other vloggers to Balham at the same time to try and give the club some exposure 👍🏻⚽️
Interesting non league again Matt. Southport were at one time in either the old division 3 or 4, and used to get reasonable crowds. Our club the Gills used to play them regularly back in the 70s and early 80s. Just shows you what non league means to a real fan, when travelling down from Southport to Oxford. Oxford would have probably had less long journeys if they could have put in the south section, but thats football. This league is by my reckoning the 6th Tier of the pyramid
Evening Berlin Dave, yes it is Tier 6 👍🏻 I think being in the north league is bad for the clubs finances due to the travelling but as a spectacle for the fans must be a lot more interesting going to all those new grounds 👍🏻⚽️
Great video Matt, glad to see that you are slowly venturing North 👍👍
I love going north but London and the M25 always get in my way, thanks for your comments 👍🏻⚽️

Thanks Norwich Dave, us Gills fans are about all over the UK like sleeper cells, keep up the East Anglia ground hopping 👍🏻⚽️ UTG

. Back in the day we signed their center forward Mick Bickle, it was a shame when they were voted out of the League
Yes before my time all of this voting out of the league, can imagine that system being abused by clubs 👍🏻⚽️🇦🇺
I'm a Southport fan- our average attendance is around the 1000 mark- big games can attract around 2-2,500.
Looks like a trip to Southport is on the cards 👍🏻⚽️
another good one matt im old enough to remember southport being in the football league early 1970,s
Yes before they were demoted, ‘voted out’ as they used to do pre 1987 👍🏻⚽️
I remember going to see Gateshead vs Oxford City last year up in Gatesead. I think Oxford City brought about 20 fans and got beat 4-0
That is a long old trek to the north east for a national league game 👍🏻⚽️↗️
Good to see more non-league mate. Hard luck against us in the cup today mate all the best for the rest of the season 🍊🍊
Thanks Chris, I think Blackpool met the Gills at a good time due to our terrible run 👎⚽️
Matt - Southport’s Danny Lloyd played for Gillingham a few years ago.
Good video too, I was there yesterday as an away fan.
Yes you are right about Danny, decent atmosphere from you guys 👍🏻⚽️
I’ve been there for an Oxford United game as their women’s team play at Oxford City. not a bad ground, I like the gates from the old ground but I always like it when a club retains part of their history when they move stadiums
Yes I did wonder the gates were from the original ground, they have done the same thing at Middlesbrough 👍🏻⚽️
In answer to your question, Oxford United fans go to Oxford City games, myself included, and every pre season they play a friendly at Oxford City, there’s no rivalry, United usually loan a few players to City aswell
Thanks Carl, that’s what I expected, when was the last competitive game?
@ I think they’ve only ever played friendlies, once every pre season in the last 10 years or so
@@mattthegroundhopper9242 Echo what Carl said - as a yellows fan, completely agree, and indeed they're kind of a feeder club. Not sure we'll have played each other in a competitive league game since the Southern League days...
When you sit behind the dug outs at Salford you can`t see much of whats going on
Great video Matt! Interesting view of the “other Oxford side”, stadium might be better than the Kassam 🤔
I think this ground albeit smaller is much more interesting than Oxford Utds ground 👍🏻⚽️
At least City's has four ends lol
@@anthonylangford7797 yes the infamous three sided Kassam
Stadium 👍🏻⚽️
Hi Matt, can't believe you visited Ox City and I wasn't there today!!!!

@@stephenanakie3500 this is now getting very complicated, 😅
Oxford in conference north , crowds must be low as it’s in the south,
It would be most teams furthest away trip 👍🏻⚽️
Oxford City went up from the Nat League South and got relegated to NL North. Guess it's a case of numbers? Where is dividing line? Watford Gap?
I guess each season it changes, they could be switched back to the south league next season depending on who is in the division 👍🏻⚽️
@mattthegroundhopper9242 battle of the M25 tonight - Potters Bar v Dartford - if you fancy it. Up on the Thameslink from Farringdon 👍

Is their former ground now a housing estate or supermarket? 👍🏻⚽️
@mattthegroundhopper9242 Think the college sold it for housing. Bobby Moore and Harry Redknapp were once the management team in the early eighties.
