      I hope you don't mind a relatively long reply. I already knew your tips for playing cash games because I have 5 or 6 of your books, as well as reading the Super System and books from other professionals, both cash oriented and tournament. I'm 70 and grew up playing stud in high school and when I was in the Army, stud was the game back then. I went through chemo early last year and wasn't able to go back to work, so I have to live off my social security. I live in Texas and while I played for recreation, I started playing to supplement my income, mostly 1/2, now I play 1/3 and soft 2/5 games. You know Texas, all the games play bigger, a 2/5 is often 2/5/10, and most are match stack. I'm not able to put in a lot of hours per session. I started with a 2k bankroll and now have 16k, even with me spending a few hundred a month. Do you think I'm doing well, and do you think I should consider playing more 2/5?

      I think playing live is the only thing that will help me now. Thought I was on a downswing but it seems more like I just can't beat the micros because I'm not a winning player..
      I still study all my notes from your masterclass and I watch a lot of content online, but I have better games in SNG's. Still about break even or winning a few bucks. I don't know how much I should be spending on this before I should give up. Started with $300 and after 6 months I'm down to $97 lol this is the only hobby/skill I've ever tried to master that I wasn't successful in after 3-6 months

    I played poker 10 years ago, won a bit, stopped. Now I am starting again - started with 100$ on GG playing various 0.01/0.02 cash games and plan to move up to 0.02/0.05 if I can get to 200$ and stay there for a decent sample. I personally figure I would be a recreational player but I want to win when I do it. I started with 11$ playing 0.25$ sng. Grinded up till I hit 1$ bi sng. Built that up to about 80$. Took that out and transitioned to cash games (5nl).. Between sng and cash I’ve made over 200$. 700 sng games, and 15k hands in cash. All from an original 11$. This is all over the course of 4 months. I 20x’d my money in 4 months. That 11$ was precious to me. I’m now almost ready to move up to 10nl. Be disciplined, study, and try your very best to NOT tilt. I can confirm building a small bankroll is easy. I’m gonna come back to this video in Jan of 2025. I want my bankroll to be at least 10k. Hold me accountable to that. Gl at the tables and thank you Jon!
    Edit: my winrate in sng was 20% ROI
    And my current cash game winrate is 19bb/100. Maybe I’m running a bit hotter than usual. But with winrates that high it’s safe to say my winrate is something positive. Even though those aren’t really large samples.

    I am in the UK so may not be so relevant to much of your audience but I started my bankroll building journey at the start of February with £800 playing on Pokerstars in their MTTs (primarily freezeouts but some PKOs too) with buy-ins ranging from $4.40 - $11. I'm trying to become a "professional" poker player which to me just means making more than about £1,000 (around $1,400) per month to cover my living costs + a bit of a safety buffer. My bankroll atm is around £2,200 so a reasonable start but not making as much as I'd like to and I know that I've been running pretty well over the last few months too. The tournaments I play in usually have pretty large fields so I'm concerned that a prolonged downswing could in fact wipe out my bankroll entirely. I'm hoping to continue to build the bankroll over the next few months and invest in some training alongside that to hopefully gain an even bigger edge over the rest of the pool at my current stakes. Once the bankroll surpasses £5,000 I will start to take some shots at slightly bigger buy-in tournaments and try to satellite into $109 and maybe some $215 tournaments. Although i'm 28, I am, I guess the word is fortunate(?), to not have any dependents so cost of living and responsibilities are still minimal and I have the freedom to potentially pursue poker full time. Grateful for this video at this stage on my journey!

      Although the pay-out structure is flatter, win-rates are also lower due to some of the prize pool being taken out 'early'. I haven't looked in depth into bankroll requirements, but I believe both of these factors off-set each other, so it should roughly be the same.

    There a local 1/3 that plays like a 2/5 or 5/10. Buy in is between 200 and 1500. Rake is high 10 per hand max because they have instant high hand pay out of 500 and a rake back monthly of 500 for 60 hours of play. And free drinks with food comps. It's double the rake of other casino but still very beatable. If most of the table buys in for 400 or more BB , should bankroll be based off that many BB or 100 BB?

    Can you do a video just about beating the rake/drop? Both limit and no-limit. Seems to me it's next to impossible to beat at the Low Limits - this is especially true at the 4/8 and below limit level and double especially true in the places where they take a drop and not a rake (California).
    How do you know if you're playing in a game that's impossible to beat? In CA, they drop $6 per hand - so if you win 3 pots per hour, you're paying 2.25 big bets in 4/8 per hour + tips. But on 2+2 the standard for a good player in limit hold'em is a win rate of 1 Big Bet per hour.

    • @PokerCoaching
      @PokerCoaching  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's very difficult to say because even high raked games, if you're playing with tons of bad players, you can have a win-rate. I'm assuming the standard is 1 big bet/hour after the rake, so more like 3.25 big bets/hr and you lose 2.25 of that due to rake.

    • @PokerCoaching
      @PokerCoaching  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the best way is to talk with some of the best players in the specific game and look to have good stats on it. If you play the game for a large sample, you'll likely be able to find out if it's a beatable rake.

    I have studied this discipline for moment from mental perspective. I must admit it attracts most people with low self-esteem, slaves of money with illussion of fame. When you put money and this "illussion of fame" aside what image you see. Someone who spends most his day hours sitting behind monitor or table clicking mouse or betting. This image presents inner emptiness and future depression issues for sure. If you care about yourself/have high esteem probably you've already figure it out for yourself if not I would't recomend this to anyone. Remember you are way way more valuable than all money on earth and fame too. So don't be slave of them if it's not worth it.

      Most poker sites have decent cash games assuming they do not let bots play and they do not rake too much.

    What defines a 'buy in'? In a 5/10 game with a $3K cap, is 1 buy in $1K or $3K? What if we would always buy in for the max?

    • @grim789
      @grim789 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      $5/$10 you need $1000 for a hundred big blinds equals 1 buy in so you need realistically $30,000 to play at that level.

    I failed to explain to everyone that I can play just for a pleasure 55 cents buy in and that's it. Only because it is 3-4 hours maximum and I hate to play an online tournamnet for 8-10 hours like some people do. It is a torture. I can play live 10 hours. But prefer no more than 3-4. Once there was 13 hours day 1 of some main event. But seriously, why should I do something I dislike? Why people always need to do something professionnally that is really unpleasant. Anyone starts to play worse after 3-4 hours in front of the computer so why keep foing that and lose money? Poker might be a great profitable hobby. There are plenty things in the world one can do AND make some money in poker.

    U arent doubling your money every 2 months like suggested unless your doubling the stakes every 2 months . . so if he makes $100 in 2 months hes STILL gonna make $100 the following 2 months unless he doubles it. Simple Math right ? Maybe u said it wrong or werent thinking of it that way. 14 min in to the Video

    You could go to work? Poker is a blast, but if you make your living off of taking from others, there is no amount of giving that can make up for the harm caused to others. At least with tournaments.people are far less likely to bet the families rent. If you win from someone who looks overly distraught, then take them aside and give me my money back.

      Such a disagreeable point to try and make. If I’m putting up the same amount of money and facing the same amount of risk, I should not feel like I’m “taking” someone’s money. Especially when that person is consciously making a decision to sit at a table to play a GAME where the score is kept with currency. No one is forcing that person to play a game where there is a risk to go busto. Don’t play with money you can’t lose, take responsibility for your actions, don’t blame others (or winners lmao)
