I'm getting so much satisfaction from your videos. I'm about your age, so I really appreciate the slower pace at which you explain things. Some younger guys rattle on at breakneck speed to try to make their videos more dynamic, but I get lost in the shuffle with them. So this is great. I haven't used the 1176 that much because I couldn't quite figure it out. This really puts me in the picture. Looking forward to experimenting more with it now, and also looking forward to more of your videos. Great work, Mike.
@@CreativeSauce And, to add something to his comment, it's the same for me because not only I'm a little old, but I'm French speaking. With you Mike, I can understand what you say. Thanks a lot.
I find the mix knob very useful in conjunction with the distortion feature to add "presence" to bass guitars. Thanks for pointing out the low cut filter. I had missed that one. ✌✌
@@CreativeSauceI've really enjoyed your last two videos and they've been super helpful for me. I have access to all of these really great models but don't really know the history or specific uses or tricks with any of them. It's made harder as the slate ones also look totally different with the vertical rack layouts. I'm just about to get to the mix stage of my new song so I'm looking forward to trying some things out 👍🏻
Hi Mike, hope you are well. Thank you for another really timely and useful video. I have been debating whether to get this collection while it is on offer and you have helped me to go for it, now I understand the 1176 better. I think the 1176 is a little older than you, but you look a lot younger than your age. Lol
I will venture a guess that the 1176 is just slightly older than you are Mike. Not older than me....I am a bit older than dirt, but really love the 1176. GREAT video, thank you for sharing, I always learn something new with your videos.
Another quality video - thanks Mike. You being just a young fella and all, it must be the 1176 that's older...😁 I use my freebie Fetish by Analog Obsession, it's really good and I know it well. When I'm mixing in Brian's studio I tend to grab the Waves CLA76.
Another interesting , well presented tutorial. As someone almost entirely ITB I have wondered if compression is more important when live instruments and mics are involved. I fool around with it on some EPs and guitar vsts but I don't appreciate much difference unless the settings are a bit cranked.
I wish you were able to switch back and forth between the different models inside of one plugin. I know the Waves version is less accurate, but I sometimes prefer it simply because of the ability to quickly toggle between the blue and black models. Yes, you can load all the UAD versions into your channel strip and toggle back and forth that way, but it's not as quick and takes up more slots on your channel strip and more processing power.
Wasn't aware the LN is supposed to be the so called blackface 76 that I've heard people talk about. It looks kind of purple on both my monitors, especially next to the AE. A bit less so on your video though, so maybe there's something funky with my settings or graphics cards.
I bought the hardware 1176 last week, i dont really know what im doing but it was a bargain and seems a good compressor to start learning on. One thing im confused about is how would you replicate the mix control on hardware, do you just accept the compressed mic (say an overhead or room mic youre smashing) is going to remain a character mic, or can you somehow split the signal to get a clean copy to mix in with the original? Love the channel, you break things down really nicely
Yet another video where you manage to take something complicated and present it in an accessible way. It's a skill that many don't have.

Thanks, Mike, nice audio samples to better understand the settings options.🎸
Plot twist: Mike was born in the year 1176 .
Lol !
@@panneddead-centre6844 hell, he's aged well then
Good level of details, while keeping information useful and useable. Used this comp a lot and yet still learned a little something today, thanks!
great video!! Finally I got to understand the different 1176 versions.

Just googled Slate 1176 and realised I've been using the slate versions of these on pretty much every track I've done for the last year.
Yes! I've heard it's very good, but I hvnt personally tried, so I couldn't recommend. They have alot of classics!

Wes audio ng76. So many useful features and plugin control/recall/automation
You mentioned your birth year once, and I could easily remember it because we were born in the same year. I won't spoil it.
I Have Brainworx Purple Audio MC-77 sounds great more modern sound, DUAL mono and other good features

1176 and ELE-8 - killers - one quastion is, why are u not using a limit (aux) to aim and compare the compression quality?
