    I think it's important to emphasize that when they say meat increases your risk for some disease by 19%, that doesn't mean if your current risk was 1%, it's now 20%. It's 1.19%.
    When people hear that statement, "increases by 19%", they think (MyCurrentRisk)+19. Not (MyCurrentRisk)*1.19... which is what they should be thinking. Relative risk is a hard concept to grasp for a lot of people.

      Also the % are useless information to us, we don't know what they correlate to, 29% higher chance of cancer could be anything, if the original chance was 1% then it's now 1.29%, or it could be full on 29%, or even 0.0029%
      The info is meant to sound alarming, it's meant to scare us, but in reality the numbers have no meaning on an individual person, it's only meaningful on a society scale, and only when all of the numbers are proven, and explained.

    I've been vegeterian for the past 4+ years(I still eat fish every once in a while) and honestly I feel pretty normal. But the fact is even before I went full on, I didn't like meat at all(which in my country is considered very weird) so it wasn't that hard for me to switch.
    But I think it really depends on your taste, habits, surroundings and sime other factors whether you will consume a lot of meat.
    And honestly, I don't judge people who eat meat, because as Kurzgesagt pointed out, it has its health benefits. Heck, even within my own family there are people on both sides and we still sit down and eat on the same table.
    I just wish non-vegeterians would treat me the same way too and I stop recieving weird looks when I tell other people I don't eat meat, because it's really annoying.

    Here are our sources: sites.google.com/view/sourcesismeathealthy/ It is very fascinating to see that the both extremes, vegans and people on meat heavy diets hate this video. Usually we are attacked more from one direction - in this cases both ends of the spectrums are really upset. Anything relating to nutrition is very controversial unfortunately. Someone on twitter posted this: There is research showing strong links between dietary choices and social identity: www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0195666319305549?via%3Dihub
    So if you want to, you can find sources telling you that every kind of diet is bad for you. We tried very hard not to do that and get a real understanding what the health effects of meat are. We also did not have a particular bias, we have vegetarians, flexitarians and meat eaters in the team. And in general, since our first meat video many of us have reduced their meat consumption or at least try to. Others in the team have not changed at all and don't plan to. We don't have an overarching agenda here, one way or the other. There is a video about milk in the making right now and we also just started a video about veganism. Look forward to more diet related videos next year.

      Now they call it climate change. In 1970 they (the "Scientists" on government grants with too much free time on their hands, due to exclusion form the free market) were calling for incoming ice age and the projections completely failed. In 2000s it was "global warming" and again - the projections completely failed. So now they use term "climate change", not to make fools of themselves anymore. But you all are fools if you believe(d) these theories. Climate is always changing, calling upcoming disaster "Climate change" is like calling it "four seasons". And BTW - if not for the CO2 emissions, next ice age would take another chunk of the plant life population, as it did last time when the amount of CO2 dropped below 150ppm, which is a survival level for many plants. If not for CO2 big-scale life on this planet would probably be gone due to co2 depletion, within a million of years, (unless some unexpected event would have occurred releasing big amounts of co2 into the atmosphere) that has been going on for billions of years since the beginning of life on our planet. STOP CO2 DEPLETION! Thanks god for cryptocurrencies. We can both fight the instability and unsustainability of our financial system and CO2 depletion at the same time. I LOVE IT!

      Kurzgesagt - In a Nutshell “you can find any studies to show a diet is bad” is such a cop out. The strongest evidence we have(prospective cohort studies and meta analysis) show without question that the LDL cholesterol and saturated fat in meat is very unhealthy and leads to cardio vascular disease.
      It is only “heavily contested” if you consider mechanistic speculation to be valid counter evidence to a meta analysis. In other words, it is only contested if you consider all forms of evidence equal. Which they aren’t, there is a hierarchy of evidence in epidemiology
      You might as well say the safety of vaccines is “ heavily contested” because 15 doctors started a pseudo scientific Facebook group and have 3 mechanistic studies as evidence.

However, it should be noted that this classification is misleading since you need to eat kilos of process meat every month for years to see an increase the cancer risk of a few percent. In nutrition, "processed" basically means that you remove something good and/or add something bad. Grilling, boiling, steaming, chopping, refrigerating, freezing etc. are not among the things that makes something processed. Adding additives (except for spices) makes something processed. Including adding oil, sugar and/or salt (although it becomes a gradient at very low volumes). Removing good things, like going from a whole grain to refined, or a whole orange to orange juice (i.e. removing most or all fibers) also makes something processed.

      When you cut a slab of meat directly out of a dead animal without any other process it's "unprocessed". Things like freezing/thawing are borderline as they can alter the structure of the meat but don't change its nutritional content.
      If you're looking for things to avoid pre-cooked or cured meats are generally considered to be the worst. When cooking meat it's best to render away excess fat while avoiding over-cooking or burning, meat-fumes are also potentially hazardous and should be avoided as much as possible.

      Literally almost ALL prepackaged, precooked meat is processed.
      Cured and smoked meats are the most obvious examples, but often it is just the shitload of preservatives that are added to make it last longer.
      Basically the only way around it and still enjoy things like sausages is to find a butcher shop that makes them raw, or straight up pre cooks them without any preservatives. In other words, you somehow got to track down a local butcher shop that has the proper equipment.

      They didn't even explain that only processed meats with artificial preservatives are the ones that are dangerous. So basically, those are any meat in cans, tetra packs, and some in jars.
      I don't think homemade processed meats are dangerous because those artificial preservatives are not really handily available for anyone. And that's why I will keep on making my homemade sausages, luncheon meat, and cured ham.

I've tried being vegetarian but it didn't work when I lived in Turkey cause the nutritional products that I had to buy were really expensive. I've been living in Germany for 6 months now and I can't say that I'm a vegetarian but I have a plant based diet 95% of the time. When I travelled to Turkey after 4.5 months of being in Germany, I had a blood test done to see if I lack iron. Turns out my iron has risen like never before and I feel completely healthy and not bloated or uncomfortable because of trying to digest the meat.

      Fine, in processed meats we have natrium nitrit everywhere and it seems to be cancerogenegic. But what chemical compound is causing cancer in beef exactly? I don't think it's aminoacids. In the video they say it might be fat, so it's safe to say then that a lean steak is fine? There must be some logic, right, beef and chicken are both meats, but what's special in beef then that presumably causes cancer?

      However, the people around me who do eat meat regularly are so unhealthy and have so many complications and yet continue to eat the same stuff, even though they’re aware of the fact that it is killing them slowly. I would rather just eat the way I do and continue to feel good physically and morally! It’s all a matter of perspective in the end.

    New Study released 08/20/2024. Regularly eating red (beef and pork) and processed meats in particular is associated with a higher risk of TYPE 2 DIABETES, according to an analysis of data from 31 study cohorts published Tuesday in the journal The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology. Researchers analyzed data from nearly 2 million people across 20 countries.

    • @mishiko7
      @mishiko7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      These studies need to be taken into context. If a regular person eats a lot of meat ALONG with eating a lot of sugary snacks, for example, but then maybe yes, they might have a higher risk of diabetes. But the main risk factor is eating a lot of carbs. There is no person ever who ate mostly meats and non-starchy vegetables long term and still got diabetes. To have type II diabetes one has to eat a lot of carbs for long periods of time. Because type II diabetes is essentially a developed intolerance to carbs.

    • @georgewilson7808
      @georgewilson7808 28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@mishiko7 Sorry to disappoint you but new evidence shows fat is the cause of diabetes. Specifically fat in the muscle (intramyocellular lipids), liver, and pancreas. How do we know this? They have looked at the fat on MRI. They have given healthy humans intravenous fat follow by oral glucose and they became diabetic and the blood sugar would not come down. People on a meat only diet have been shown to be masking their diabetes. When they are given a glucose tolerance test, their blood glucose skyrockets and does not come down. Fat (animal fat and oils) causes insulin resistance.

    • @mishiko7
      @mishiko7 28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@georgewilson7808 no worries, you have not disappointed me (yet). To be factually correct people on HFLC diet do not have high insulin resistance, vice a versa they are highly insulin-senstive. What you are describing is an adaption phase, not diabetes. People who were long term on HFLC produce less insulin as they do not need a lot of it and their pancrea just gets lazy. When they suddenly eat a lot of carbs the problem is not that they're insulin resistant, it's just the pancrea cannot produce enough insulin fast enough. But given enough time the body will adapt soon and be able to produce more insulin. This process can take a couple of weeks and maybe max several months to get to the full extent. How fast it happens depends on the thing we call methabolical flexibility. Absolutely the same happens when people switch to HFLC from HCLF - keto-flue and associated side effects to reach fat adaption are just temporal conditions. But on the other hand we know that diabetes is not a temporal condition and even considered a kind of permanent disability by most doctors. If you show me a study when people who were long term (e.g. 5 years) on a high fat diet, then gradually switched to high carb diet and let's say after 3 months had all signs of a permanent diabetes, then I'm very interested and I'd consider your statement "fat causes diabetes" as probably true. AFAIK there is no such study. Diabetes is still widely associated with sweet soda, not with an avocado. But even if you do not agree with my adaptation argument, and still think that people on high fat diets have "hidden diabetes" - then why is it bad in practice for them? It's like saying that some non-drinkers are actually "hidden alcoholics", they do not experience any negative effects of alcoholism, but if they drank, oh boy, they would have been doing so bad. It might be true, but they decided not to drink (or eat carbs for the matter) and hence experience no harm. And if a person, who has a real diabetes, decides to do HFLC they do better, not worse actually. Some even claim that they reversed their diabetes. If fat causes diabetes, then probably it should only become worse, right? I little too counterintuitive, I think.

    • @georgewilson7808
      @georgewilson7808 28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@mishiko7 The reason it is not good to be masking diabetes is because then they looked at the one year and two year mark of people on keto they found they still had diabetes at one years, just less severe; however, at the two year mark their diabetes was slightly worse. To top it off all of the people in the study were still on diabetes medication. You could cure all of these cases with a low fat whole food plant based diet. They would no longer have diabetes and no longer be taking medication. I know because I did it myself and eat several times a week large servings of brown rice, baked potatoes, sprouted flourless bread, and licorice daily (no fat out of Finland). My Ha1c is 5.2, but has been as low as 4.9.

    If my experience in the Military is anything to go by, a good balanced meal (especially for intense exercise) will have protein, carbs and vegetables. An example would be Samoan, Corn and Broccoli. Another good meal could be something like Pork Chops, Potatoes (or macaroni) and Asparagus. It is also pretty good to eat fruit like an Apple or Pear once or twice a day.

I am quite opposed to vegetarianism in its ethical conception and more generally the nature-human relationship where we always seem to want to make animals close and "nice", where we see wild domestic animals, the fact for some activists where we hear that they want to stop all animals from eating meat (I noticed that this was restricted just for preys where there is emphaty), which scares me.
