    Some call the interior dated, but with a real physical shifter controlling an honest stepped gear transmission, and more importantly, no piano black trim, no stuck on tablet infotainment screen, and a proper hand brake, I for one think that “dated” is actually a good thing.

      @@err7273that’s really the only knock I have with the interior. Besides that it’s fine. Any interior with a screen will eventually feel dated but the dual screen is definitely a Zonk.

    Three reasons why I purchased a new ILX A Spec last year. First, my Acura dealership is beautiful, with lots of perks that you aren't going to get from a dingy (mine is) Honda dealer. Second, it's different from the MILLIONS of civics that only differ in color. You can roll an ILX to a valet at that nice hotel you go to and not feel like a total commoner vs a Civic. Third, my dealer sold me my brand new pearl white A Spec for $26900. Overpriced and irrelevant? Not a Mercedes or Audi....but something a little special for under $27K.

    Despite the aggressive exterior styling, this is a car for more conservative buyers that value reliability and comfort over sportiness. Bought one of these recently with the Espresso interior, and the contrast of the leather really pops nicely. Biggest disappointment as others have mentioned is the outdated chassis and a somewhat bouncy ride. Though Acura is nominally a performance brand, this car is mostly about value and aesthetics.

      The car could use a bit more power but to be honest the 8 speed DCT is lightning quick and makes the car perform great for the low HP...Also, once you're used to the 2 screens its much better in my opinion. It's great to have music on one screen and map/apple CarPlay on top screen =)

    This car is really awkwardly positioned in the Honda/Acura lineup. A top trim civic actually has a more modern and nicer interior. The ILX, on the other hand, has a traditional automatic and more powerful engine than the civic and is only a few $k more expensive. If you look at the ILX as a more conservatively styled, luxury Civic SI (but with an automatic trans) it makes sense. The issue is that the ILX isn't really a competitive luxury vehicle, but it's still a pretty good value.

    I have a bit of a soft spot for the ILX. I bought a low-miles 2014 CPO with the 2.4 liter engine, which came only with a 6-speed very slick shifting manual. It was the same engine as the previous generation Civic Si. Some people called the ILX just a rebadged Civic, but it was really a much nicer car in my opinion. Loved that car. Fun to drive, great fuel economy, and cheaper to insure than the Si. The only negatives were more body roll than you’d like, and you couldn’t get factory nav in the 2.4 back then. Sadly, that was the last Acura you could get with a stick. I’d have kept it longer had I not gotten a terrific deal on the new ND Miata I bought two years ago.

    not sure how many read this review anymore but I mentioned this to Joe a while ago. In 1987 I bought a new BMW M5 and owned it for 10 years and 75,000 miles. I bought a new ILX in 2019 and have now owned it for 3.5 years and 20,000 miles........the dimensions are exactly the same as my M5 - the ILX has 201HP NA K24 and the 8 speed DCT Auto Trans - the M5 had the NA straight 6 with 256HP and 5 speed Manual. The M5 weighed 400 lbls more than my ILX - I can tell you from my experience and from the performance specs that the two cars "feel" almost exactly the same. Yes the M5 is "dated" now AT 34 years old and the ILX may be "dated" compared to newer cars BUT I'll take "dated" ANY DAY OVER THE NEWER CARS WITH ALL THEIR CVT'S AND UPPED PRICES - GIVE ME QUIK AND THE RIGHT SIZE AND RELIABILITY AND I'LL TAKE THAT FIRST. THE "DATED" ILX MAKES ME REMEMBER WHY I DROVE The M5 for 10 years...........reality not hyperbole

    The interior is a bit old, but it's also kind of classic - and ages well.

      Kibbles I wouldn’t buy the current ILX, waste of money if you ask me. If you’re in the used market I would go Infiniti Q50 Red Sport, Lexus Is350, Acura TLX v6 SH-AWD if you want Japanese. If you want German used, I would go bmw 335i or 340i, Mercedes C450 AMG, Audi S4. I highly doubt you would get a decent new luxury sport sedan for 35k

  • @CvmmanderCvdy
    @CvmmanderCvdy 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Glad I chose the Civic Hatchback Sport Touring. I loved the ILX, but it felt like a small sedan looking for purpose in a highly contested market where used German sedans with better quality materials and luxury products reign supreme. The Acura might be somewhat dependable long term. Acura as a brand is starting to rebrand themselves. Give it a handful more years before I would even consider one. Too early to tell.

    Pretty much an automatic ‘SI’, but looks way better imo. I wouldn’t mind one for a daily driver, since that N/A engine is known to be super reliable. For more power, you could go for a Honda Accord 2.0T sport - pretty common car though, but more value for the money.

  • @dsell37

    Except for a couple of minor details, the exterior is much more appealing than the interior layout and that’s unfortunate because the ILX looks good imo.

    I have no complaints about the styling, but it's cramped, not like the present Civic sedan. Acura has a new short video for the ILX, and gives the impression it is all new for 2021, but it's the same, but they disabled comments. Wth? My guess is that it will be restyled for 2022, based on the new Civic, but not announced yet, and maybe several months after the Civics are made available in late spring 2021. I do like the styling, but in Apex Blue Pearl with the black interior. The red is just too much for me, but it has to have the ELS sound system, because that's the main reason I would want an Acura, and the ILX A Spec makes it the most affordable. Plus, the ILX still has a CD player, and the N/A 2.4L engine and DCT.

    My thing about the ILX is that it was bound to fail from the beginning. It looks much better than what it did originally, but Acura failed the ILX. The engine, interior, and overall performance is very dated or not simply good enough. It fit well the old Acura idea in the mid 2010s to be a nicer Honda, but it's not anywhere near the idea of "Crafted Precision Performance" by being a nicer Civic. I think I saw in another view (possibly Motor Trend) that the ILX badge will be discontinued and that they may be returning with a whole new name plate. It's not a bad choice when comparing to a Civic, Corolla, or VW Jetta but in the premium world it should have been better.

    This car is an embarrassing product to be selling as a 2020 when the previous generation Accord has a more updated interior. Almost as bad as the 370z. At least that car has some power. 200 hp with AWD? That thing is a slug. A heavy 9th gen civic. It’s like a Lexus IS 200. Just buying it for the luxury badge.
