A native of South London, with Greek and Jamaican parents, La Havas began teaching herself to play piano, write songs, and sing at the age of seven. Her family’s diverse taste was very influential, when she was a child, her grandparents babysat her often: “They’re from Jamaica, so when I was growing up I listened to a lot of religious reggae-almost hymns, but in a reggae style-on cassettes. But at the same time my mother was listening to a lot of '80s and '90s Michael Jackson, and Mary J Blige, who I loved from a very early age. Plus India Arie, Jill Scott and The Fugees”.
Lianne’s biggest hits include “Green and Gold”, “Unstoppable”, “Gone”, as well as an incredible cover of Dionne Warwick's “I Say a Little Prayer”, and a show stopping Tiny Desk performance for NPR Music. Her catalogue also includes the albums “Blood” and “Is Your Love Big Enough”.

Same. My soul used to grow so heavy when I listened to this. It came to the point where I couldn't handle all that honest pain. So I actually forced myself to stop listening to her completely solely because of this song alone. And now I'm at a place where I can listen to her freely and it feels so good to have experienced that growth, because I have access to all this bittersweet beauty all over again.

I think that she isn't blaming anyone.....I think she appreciates the heartbreak because she grew from it and finally came into who she should have been all along.......Who she thought she was, she learned to hate that person because it wasn't fulfilling...Whoever this guy/girl was really challenged her to be the better version of herself......that's what i get from it...

I hope she's not blaming anybody because when we blame somebody else it means we give the power to be happy to outside circumstances and people ... self empowerment is when we realize only 'I' (you & each individual) get to choose the thoughts and emotions/feelings inside that create happiness/unhappiness and our inner emotional/mental state is reflected by our reality outside.

Love can drive a person to craziness, bring happiness, strength, and entail significant loss. When faced with loss, everyone says 'Stay strong', but what about the feelings we suppress as a result? That's exactly what this song is about. We should learn to allow those feelings as well. I'm grateful to Lianne for this song; it helps me immensely in healing from the past.
Finally a naturally beautiful talented lady with an old soulful sultry voice. Classic throw back to the jazzy slow jams s of the 70's/80's. I wish more songs like this got video and air play over the trash that gets promoted today !

Even though I admire your sentiments on her singing, there are many other artistes who sound soulful as Liana (not throwing any shade). Goapele, Laura Izibor, Corrine Bailey Rae (my fav) Laura Mvula just to name a few, all are under that category but each having their own signature song and might I add also all natural.
