I live very close to Morris Island, the same island where Fort Wagner once stood. Some years after the Civil War ended, the ocean reclaimed Fort Wagner. All that is left there today is white sandy beach, azure ocean blue, and the whispers of our past. Today, I see boaters, tourists, black and white, who have not a clue of the sacrifice made on this blood-stained piece of Earth. All around us, the voices of history softly murmur the truth. If only we’d take the time to listen. Give ‘em hell 54th!

Blacks, whites paid a heavy price. 150 years after the beginning of the Civil War - millions and millions of people kept suffering from wars during the 20th century, and still now - we all should think about it. Yes they did along with thousands others across the Union. I am also sad for those who started a war that they could not in the end win. It was time to end 250 years of enslavement of a race of people who had suffered long enough. It would take both the North and South who had condoned the practice of slavery before the nation was founded. It was God's hand that brought to an end.

Glad to see there are lots of other die-hard "Glory" and James Horner fans. In all the years since '89, new friends or first dates would ask...."What's your favorite movie?" When I'd tell them it was "Glory", they'd look confused. " I don't remember that movie" most would say. Occasionally, a guy would respond...."You mean that movie back in the '80's about the black Civil War regiment?" Yep, I'd say amused by their obvious confusion because I knew they always expected a white female to hold "Titanic" or some such big film with a lot of romance in it as their favorite movie. I was always so disappointed that most people didn't even remember Glory if they ever even saw the film which came and went so quietly without the fanfare it deserved. It was an incredible script with astonishing acting especially on the part of Denzel Washington who gave us, in my opinion, the most beautiful and powerful acting performance EVER and told us about a piece of history that desperately needed to be told. Honorable mention on the performance of the actor who played Sgt. Mulcahey, of course. Glory gave us the most incredible movie score that ever came out of Hollywood and woke some of us up to the remarkable talent of James Horner. . LOVED reading all the comments here. i see now that both the film, "Glory" and it's score are still burning brightly in the hearts of those, like me - those who can't forget the dramatic story line of the film, who can't forget Horner's Crown Jewel - the score of Glory. Sickens me to think we're still putting other far away countries through the same horrors even today. Did we not learn anything? CGI was beginning to encroach and audiences wanted to be 'Terminated' into suspending disbelief, which was a great shame, as this film was an accomplishment. And the score no less so. We three sat until the last credit had rolled and the last note had died away. The need to hear this theme to it's end was paramount to me. as I was completely hooked and went out the next day to order it. On vinyl. James, you had a unique gift! You had knowledge! You had the profession! You shared it with the world! You shared it with the film music industry! You became an icon for inspirational blockbusters! Your music is memorable! Films we grew up with watching composed by you filled us with nostalgia! Old school music! Breathtaking, powerful, inspirational, beautiful, haunting, epic, dramatic, suspenseful, everything else. We will never forget your films and the music that made your films watchable. Your music is captivating! We enjoy all music from you! We cannot believe it's over! We cannot believe you have gone so soon! We cannot believe things will change! Your music was old school, big time! No additional scores will be written! You were a boon to film music! You will be missed even as we speak! You may have died, but your music still lives on. We will continue to listen in memory of you. You have become a legend Mr. Horner! Everyone, even Kate Winslet says "I'll never let go!". No sir, we will never let go of your music! You were and always will be the man! James Horner, Prince of all film composers, may you rest in peace! Always continue to hear our prayers as we will always continue to hear your music! God rest your soul! ;....(

To the cowards who defaced the 54th monument who clearly have no idea about history, they can burn in Hell. The 54th will never be forgotten. A little “fun fact”. The Union Army asked the parents of Robert Shaw if they wanted the body exhumed from the mass grave so he can have a proper burial and they said “no, he would want to be buried with his men. He shall stay”.

The music and scene where Gould Shaw is on his horse on the SC beach looking out, once, last time knowing it is his last time, since he was leading basically a cannon fodder suicide charge, was awesome. He saw a lot of war at Sharpsburg (Antitem). However; Fort Wagner did not fall until to end of the War. Brave men against the odds until the end on both sides. Men fighting for what they believed in, men of courage and valor, who did a duty, when called. But we should never glory in or romanticize war. The song "Year of Jubilee"on this soundtrack is my fav!.

As a direct descendant of slaves living in South Carolina in 1860 it is always heartfelt to listen to any soul searching songs about that era of our country that we can only imagine. The ending of 250 years of bondage and what it costed to end it. The soundtrack of Glory reaches deep down to what it cost to hold a national together.

From Great Britain where it's thought that we loved the South over the North-think again. We didn't trust the North because the South provided the base for our industrial revolution over those who remembered 1776 and 1812, but we wanted an end to slavery that the South couldn't provide, but they made a financial deal that made the North panic that came close to bringing us in. The Northerners after 1862 knew that and emancipated said slaves and put a stop to the entire episode, and we are proud to call all the fine folk on both sides as our friends.
