You’re going to realize fast that XG isn’t bound by one genre. Not only by fans but by experiencing how diverse their sound is. XG only being around for 2ish years, their discography is so versatile. SHOOTING STAR and LEFT RIGHT reeled me in, what caught me wasn’t even one of their original songs. It was an XG TAPE from the Rap line called GALZ XYPHER. What made me stay was their documentary series on TH-cam XG is just different. The levels of which they can sing, dance, and rap is unfathomable.
These girls were raised on 90s hip hop and rnb even though the oldest members were born in 2002. The youngest Cocona started rapping in English at a very early age because of Lauryn Hill and the second youngest Maya is a huge Boyz II Men fan. Also collectively as a group their favorite artists is TLC.
XG can do basically any music genre. Their discography is so versatile. Hip hop, rap, rnb, dance, garage. They even have a rock version of Shooting Star that they perform on their current first world tour. One reactor even jokingly said "where's the country song at this point?!"
They have 3 rnb tracks 2 new ones "In the rain" "Is this love" released 11 days ago and a bit older one called winter without you, they are so good at rnb you should def check it out they can all sing so good
I really enjoy your reaction. XG music is so dope, they seamlessly switch and you are right, each one of them gets their shining light. You never get bored with them because each song is different. If your drawn to the rap line there’s the Tapes (Tape=rap line/Vox=Vocal line/Mov= Dance Tape# 1&2 You’ll need to do lyric video if you want to catch all the bars. They rap in English/Japanese/Korean. After that they are Mostly English and subbed.
XG is 🔥. All seven of them ladies can sing and rap. No gg can even touch them. They're on another level. Yes u right, XG influences are from American Hip-Hop and R & B artists from the 90's. I've been into Kpop for more than 15 years (I've started with DBSK and SNSD in 2008) and I also know everything about Jpop and Global pop that I grew up with for more than 20 years (I'm 39 BTW). And the first time I've heard XG's songs last year I definitely felt the difference between them and the other Kpop groups. They sound more like the old western RnB groups (with a touch of the old Japanese Pop / Hip Hop acts like Heartsdale, FoxximisQ and more) than a regular Kpop group. I think they are branded as a Kpop group because they are asian, performing in Korea and having korean staff (despite also having japanese and american staff) but those things alone can't determine their genre. If you say XG is Kpop because they perform in music shows in Korea then Bruno Mars is also Kpop because he won more than 6 trophies by now with APT! If you say XG is Kpop because they are based in Korea then it's like you're saying Rolling Quartz (a japanese Hard Rock band) is also Kpop because they are based in Korea and singing in korean but that's not true at all. They said sooo many times they are not a Kpop group and their CEO created the term "Xpop" to represent their genres but I don't know, some fans and some people refuse to admit they are NOT Kpop at all! One thing everyone should know is if they were really a Kpop group that had Korean members they would be more famous than they are today but because Kpop fans are only stanning Kpop groups, their fanbase consists of more normal music fans than Kpop fans.
It's so good running into another long time kpop fan! I've been a fan since 2004 thanks to BoA's "My Name". XG truly does feel different to any actual Kpop group.

Gabe, I lean towards the rap side as well, and I know this has been recommended a bunch already, but Woke Up, XG Tape 2, and all of their XG Tape 4 will satisfy that “I want more of them spitting”. Left Right is just a pure banger.
k-pop fandoms tend to be passionate about their favs. XG is a mix of a lot of genres, so it’s hard to put them in the same category, but they are undoubtedly inspired by k-pop and the system they trained in is similar. they are closely related. i appreciate your open mind going into it and don’t let people get you down! every group has their own special flavor.
Also I don't know if I will like it or not there are pop songs I enjoy and lyrical vocal songs I enjoy, same goes for rap, hip hop and R&B if I only ever listened to music I knew I liked I would exclusively only listen to pop punk, but that seems really limiting.
