I wish the alcoholic, penniless Stephen Foster could hear and see this a century and a half after his death at 38. He'd be so pleased with his legacy, still touching us so deeply. This performance is gorgeous and wonderful in all the right ways, its searing beauty, celebrating the light sensitive souls always carry in their heart, protesting the coarseness and squalor around him.
