- The Neighbor had not been warned by the Owner that I was coming to do the hedge trimming from Laurel, when I rang the doorbell and asked her to remove the car, I realized that she was not very happy with my request and therefore was in no hurry to comply! So I had to proceed with caution so as not to damage the car. Nevertheless, it took me about two hours to do the whole job along with the cleanup.

In fairness, it's possible she hadn't considered that her car was in the way until asked to move it. But there was no reason for her to take her unhappiness with her neighbor out on him.

Man, you are SO much nicer than me! I would have gone back to the customer's side, trimming the top as I worked my way back to the neighbor's driveway. If she hadn't moved the car by that time, I would stop trimming at the back of her car, sweep up the cuttings, and work my way back to the customer (cleaning up as I went). If the neighbor hadn't moved her car by the time I left her driveway, she would just have to live with the hedge scratching her car until the next time I came back to trim! Grrrr... (But like I said, you're clearly nicer than me!) 🤣😂🤣
Exactly what I was thinking she deserved. But I'd probably have gone to my customer and asked him/her to ask the neighbor to move the car instead of ringing the bell and asking myself. The neighbor doesn't care about getting along with me, but she probably wants to stay friendly (at least face to face) with her neighbor. If my customer wasn't at home, I'd have just done the hedge up to the car on that side and called it a day, leaving a message for my customer that I'd either get it next time or another trim would need to be scheduled at a nominal fee and with her contacting the neighbor about moving her car this time.

I think everyone's forgetting that he has an implied contract with his customer to cut the whole hedge. He's not cutting it for the neighbor's benefit, but because his customer is paying him to do so. If he walks away without finishing the job, then he's "cheated" his customer. That's why I would have put it on the customer to resolve.

Here in the states if there is items in the way to big to move then that area doesn't get mowed or cut. Period. I seen a driveway get pressure washed and they left the spot where the car sat. No respect these days.

so very nice, you make it all look so easy. 2 hours, and you had to wait for a vehicle to be moved. so much love your streets and how the neighborhood is well kept. the steepness of the roofing is amazing, people are moving into the direction of Solar. in America there usually is multi vehicles parked at homes, of course large vehicles, 4 wheel drives and large motor homes and or boats all gas guzzling. very enjoyable.
The steepness is according to how rainy the climate is. In southern Europe the roofs are much flatter.

Since Corona, much people still work in home office and if they are at work, there must also be a opportunity to leave the office desk, esp. if customer are on the phone. Home office is also working time with some rules from the employer.

Beautiful hedge trim, despite the aggravation! I could watch you do that all day, with those perfectly level tops and the edges softened just the littlest bit. And your clean-up is fantastic! I was amazed at how easily you picked up the fresh trims without picking up the mulch in the yard!
Which actually brings me to a question - was that mulch in the yard that hadn't been kept up and grass was growing through? Or was it a layer of leaves all over? Hard for me to tell.

Some people will get there on their own time and not care about what others think. My cousin was like that, he’ll tell me he’ll be at my house real soon when I have invited him over for a visit or have dinner with me, but he’ll show up an hour or two later, or not at all. 🤦🏻♀️Grrrrr! Lol.. If I tell him let’s meet up at a restaurant for lunch or dinner, he’ll be there before I get there! Lol. He’s a lot better with his timing now that he’s older and on a work schedule for his job, but it use to drive me crazy. Btw, that neighborhood you usually work at is so nice. I love the homes and everyone must have a tall hedge just in that community. May I ask what part of Germany that is at? Also, do you work in other neighborhoods, or mainly in this one? I am sure many arguements could be avoided by a little forewarning the neighbours giving them the option to go out or buy earplugs. On the other hand there are just some miserable nasty bitter people in this world who just aren't happy unless they are making other people unhappy
In Western, Massachusetts, USA where I live, if you are going to be having major work done, a letter has to be sent to the abutters to let them know, in case it infringes on their property. It was up to customer to tell her neighbor before the contractor arrived to do his job. If not on speaking terms with the neighbor, send her a letter or put a note under her car's wiper blade 🙂I value my vehicle too much to have it damaged. I have no plans to buy a new vehicle, at my age, I'm on my last vehicle.

I was thinking the same thing. Make sure to make pictures before and after in case the neighbor does try to sue. It's a shame but this day and time we have to protect ourselves!

Would have took the neighbour 5 seconds to move the car, some people!. Can I ask, was that neighbour paying some of the bill. Only reason I ask is we do garden work in Scotland too and the borders for property here are normally that we cut someone's hedge only on one side, unless the neighbour wanted their side done too in which case they would pay something towards the revised quote.

In Germany, if there is a hedge between the houses, but the neighbor has a fence, the owner of the hedge must cut his side at his own expense, if there is no fence, it is the neighbor must do it himself. In this case, there was a metal mesh fence between neighbors that was completely overgrown with hedges, so I had to do their side too!
@@kustorez777 That does make sense, in the UK (generally) it would likely come down to whether the hedge was split down the boundary line or completely over on one side of someone's property. Technically if it were completely on one persons property the neighbour could demand their side be cut, but we wouldn't automatically do this, it would have to be the neighbour organising us to do the work to tell us to do this, then we would quote based on that. Interesting how different countries work :)

Yes this hedge is from Laurel, Thuja can also be used to grow hedges over 5m and taller.

Youre customer should have ask it the day before to his neighbour to move his car the next day (or to ask to park it more to the house). That's how we do it anyway.
