Exactly something for me to keep in mind when I build mine for boost in the future. I'm trying to run it N/A and since it's a low milage G3 I'll run it with a basic belts, tensioner, ect. Overhaul. But for when I want to run boost harder springs will be a must. 2 years of abuse like that is a testament to how durable these engines are though so I love it. Waiting on my engine mounts from you guys so I'm looking forward to this build season 😀 👌
Yeah it did it's job 100%. And I think 8000+ rpm was just a bit much to push it especially for drifting where we sat on the limiter a lot haha. Best of luck with your car man!
I’m glad to see someone go through all this work to see what the beams in capable of. I think top secret was the last garage to make a push for crazy power numbers but only succeeded in making something like 600-650 horsepower. I’d love to see someone make parts to bring this engine beyond that.
@@omd_sd oh ok. Yeah I plan on doing a rods pistons engine one of these days. Currently building my Altezza here in Japan and only plan on doing 5psi of boost till I get forged pistons since I don’t have access to e85
We dyno'd the last car, but not for like a year hahaha. Sadly I don't think we'll Dyno this engine. We might Dyno the next one 😜 we've got some interesting plans.
@@omd_sd damn wouldve been awesome and give us a look at how much HP can gain with a turbo setup i got an s13 and thinking of beams swap it but turbo it but i dont know if its worth it cause i want between 330hp/370hp
Nah, that's what wastegates and dumpvalves are for. As for titanium "getting old", let's go tell that to all the folks with titanium rods and pins in their bodies.
Bro, the levels. Gotta master that badboy a bit! When the music comes in or the impact fires up it's loud as hell, then I turn it down and can't hear you talk.
We were very worried about that as well! Especially with a $2500 Turbo. Luckily the engine stopped fast enough, very little material made it that far. When we disassembled the turbo we saw very little damage, and not enough to stop using the turbo yet.
Hey sorry, was going to reply and then got sidetracked haha. We ran it stock bottom end so we don't have first hand experience doing it in this engine. But we have always used JE Pistons in the past. You could also use Toda Racing stuff. We've haven't used their pistons but we have used other parts. Best of Luck!!
excellent understanding of engines by the big man
8:22 😆
- is there a valve left?
- well, there is no piston left

Yeah it'd definitely be cool to build the engine and really test it's capabilities. Spin the crap out of it haha.
@@omd_sd did you guys ever determine if the pistons were forged? Maybe bore scope the spare engine and compare with the engine that blew?
@@brianwhaley327 Pretty sure our first guess of them being cast is correct. In the future we may do some forged JE pistons, but we'll see.

@@brianwhaley327 you on mainland or Oki?? I have an Altezza as well 🥰
Though I'm sorry to see it, I enjoyed watching the teardown and damage assessment! Too bad the BEAMS isn't a $1200 engine anymore 😅
Haha thank you. And yeah they have gone up (like everything these days lol) but still a relatively cheap engine I think.
Eought brought me here. Sick content boys !!!
Shout-out to eought. Let's hope he doesn't blow this thing up again on the 29th 🤣
Yes 8 years back the shim move and jump on retaner and loss the valve key use solid cup lifter
love to see the content! keep it coming guys!
Thank you!
Hope you guys dyno this time to see how much power it gives

@@omd_sd damn sounds good 👌
whit small turbo there is lot of back pressure on ex side. AND titanium valve will get old and go bad even on street driven beams

Thank you for the feedback! I think this was something I struggled with a lot. Editing with headphones made this far more apparent!
Am having some issues with mine I don’t no if is something am doing wrong when rebuilding 2 blocks and head is down the drain already
What about the metal that got sent through the oil feed into the turbo?
We were very worried about that as well! Especially with a $2500 Turbo. Luckily the engine stopped fast enough, very little material made it that far. When we disassembled the turbo we saw very little damage, and not enough to stop using the turbo yet.
So you was working 11psi on 11.5-1 compression ratio for 2.5 years?
Yeup, E85 is magic juice haha.
That's hella impressive for an unopened engine! Which Skunk2 TB have you used on the build?
Thank you! It's the Alpha series for the Honda B series engine, it's worked great for our purposes!
Nice! I know that TB well. Did you need to make up an adaptor for it?
@@garageponies6159 they did and they sell it on their site. I'm thinking of going that route.
What trans is mounted on the engine?
At that time it was the j160, we recently adapted the r154 box and run that.
Hey, the same thing happened to me. Cruising on the highway then there was this loud ticking noise then BANG. You know the rest of the story.
Gotta love it right?
Always and forever
Is there any after market valve available for the 3sge beams?
I've seen some OE replacements. Just depends what you are looking for.
@@omd_sd thank you 🙏 my friend
Turn it into a table 😅
How many kms on the engine when you bought it?
I don't remember exactly. Most of them are 60k-100k
Which clutch and flywheel setup are you guys using?
So we have a Toda Racing flywheel and a California Clutches custom 6 puck clutch. The clutch is available on our website
@@omd_sd thank you
What mods had been done to the motor? Was it a fully stock engine?
Bone stock internals. Only upgrade was the cam gears (fixed timing). and we opened the valve clearances.
@@omd_sd why did you eliminate the vvti?
@@mattmaloy744 Simplicity and reliability more than anything. And since we turbocharged it we wanted to set our own timing anyways.
greetings I have a 3sge beams engine I would like to make it a turbo what pistons and connecting rods do you recommend me to install?

Same shit that happened to your engine is same thing that happened to mine in cylinder 4
Looks like detonation
limit it to 6000 rpm
Just curious but who made, or where do you guys purchase your engine harness?
All made in house.
