Surviving a Severe Thunderstorm in our 5th Wheel! More great vacation days then...The BIG STORM!

- We continue to have an awesome beach vacation at Pirateland in Myrtle Beach, SC. Then we are hit with a terrible severe thunderstorm with wind swept heavy rains and flooding. We tour the campground to see the storms aftermath.

If you want real good sleep, lay in bed during a rain storm in a camper. You sleep so hard, when you wake up you won’t know what day it is.

Im from the uk and have only ever seen a storm like this maybe twice. I would be panicking but you guys were so calm about it. Loved the video

Yeah pulling the slides might give the storm less grip on the camper
I actually was in my camper during a storm yesterday, oh how i love it. Nothing beats being in a camoer during a storm. Unless you are in a house with a tin roof. I like it too but the camper still beats omit though.

Looking back on that storm from watching your video, it's a wonder that your smoker stayed upright.. I am happy we weren't in transit when it hit.. After all of that, the sun came out with a rainbow.. Awesome..

What a crazy vid, I'm from Australia and it blows me out how big all the cars and caravans etc are over there.... Damn I could only wish I had one of those setups.....🤞👍👌🤔🤣

Yeah, some big rigs eh? I can't afford a big rig, a camper and a boat so I'm building a pontoon boat with a camper cabin on it. Well, it tows itself on the water so that's the big towing rig covered, and it has camper and boat all in one. Aussie ingenuity ;) If you can't buy it, build it.
Where the price of gas is going, you might have a brilliant idea. Wind or water current power to move you along!
That was so relaxing. I'd slept through that entire storm.
If your roof is metal you're pretty safe in a thunderstorm. It's actually the metal roof of your car. Not the tires that protect you in a thunderstorm.
Kinda like a Faraday cage?
Just make sure you don't have loose wires. It will make your car a lightning rod (according to the firemen after I was struck while driving in 1993).

@Marcs-Adventures I gotta a good shock out of it. The lightning forked and struck a tree I was driving under and hit my car, too. It left a huge burn on the hood of my car. I just remember neon flames going across my windshield. I can't remember after that. I was told it most likely knocked me unconscious. My lips were blue, and I had breathing trouble. My back hurt, and my hands and feet were numb. When I could feel them again, they felt severely sunburned. Otherwise, I was okay. Lived to tell about it.

Looks like a typical south florida summer storm. 2 hrs it will be sunny again. no biggie
i got a grandma in lexington,SC and a cousin in Myrtle Beach,SC and a cousin in Ashvieel ,NC always loved the Gay Dolphin Gift shop on the boardwalk in Myrtle Beach

While that was a lot of rain, it was not a bad Myrtle Beach storm. That was relatively mild. No Bad Days!
Winds were crazy too. I would guess the strongest gust was between 50 to 60 mph Scary in a travel trailer.
A lot a cabin and tunnel tents can withstand 100 mile a hour winds
Remember this is an RV we are talking about. LOL
I would have pulled the slides in to protect slide toppers.

Hello Norman. Thank you for watching. Brisket turned out amazing as did thr rest of the food. :) We faired well from the storm. No leaks and no wind damage but others around us were not so lucky. :(
When its storming this bad, we bring in our slide out to reduce the surface areas of our unit, as well as reduce the chance of damage.
Smart thinking! We just went through another hurricane in our 5th wheel and should have thought of that. Thank you for watching.

I know how you feel because I live in an RV and I’m telling you we get bad storms where I live. It feels like a hurricane because the winds are like 80 miles an hour with tornado warnings and everything and we shake and it’s not fun at all. If we have a tornado warning, which means one has been spotted, I will go to the shelter. I am not gonna stay inside That is insane

The storm looks cool, but bring cramped in with so many people in a camp site is not my idea of fun!
It was very tight at those camp sites. Way too tight. Felt like canned sardines. Lol

@@Marcs-Adventures luckily we live in Daytona Beach. We generally don't choose beach locations to camp at since we have access to the beach anytime we want. Myrtle Beach is just a larger version of Daytona Beach. The one thing about Myrtle Beach is that they have huge RV parks right on the ocean. This is something we don't have in our area. There are a few RV parks up and down the east coast of Florida on the beach or Intracoastal Waterway but not to the magnitude of Myrtle Beach.

New to camping. In these situations is it best to bring slides in or leave them out?
Very good question. Probably better to bring the slides in to provide less square footage for the wind to affect. I have also heard it's a good idea to fill your water tanks if you have time.

Just a summer storm. I’ve lived in Florida all my (59 years and hurricanes don’t typically hit the east coast til September. You’ll be fine

@@Marcs-Adventures ok I go a little further, camping in the woods -15 below in the woods with nothing but a bail of hay and fishing for gar just to have something to eat. Have videos and pictures. thats on my property 10 years ago. lol but I rather be in a tent now after that experience. lol

Those waves weren’t that big in the beginning of the video. Trust me I have seen worse there. Also where you were staying is usually a spot where storms coming up the coast tend to strike and or come from the west. Not a bad storm definitely have seen worse in my 40+ years of going to Myrtle Beach.
Josh, yeah I bet. This is our first experience on the beach there. I've experienced some crazy storms in my day as well, including riding out hurricanes...just not in a camper. It was a bit unnerving. Lol thanks for watching and the comment.

I was looking for some good storm stories but all I got was 15 minutes of you guys shoveling food in your faces.
Good morning ronald. This vlog was part of a story of our summer vacation, a continuation of the trip. At the peak of the 2020 summer covid spike we had little more to do then to hang out at our RVs. We enjoyed food with our friends cause we really couldn't do much more Thank you for watching.

Overly dramatic? Geeze, it was a pretty bad storm. I didn't think it would blow over but you could see there was a lot of damage in the campground including ac units being blown off roofs.

Did you watch the whole video? This was the continuation of our summer of 2020 vacation series and it featured a severe storm and it's aftermath.
Wow! Surviving in a 5th wheel and eating fancy food. Some tough surviving skill. Glamping thats all this is. Go do what homeless people do everyday then you can use the word survival! Smh!
We made a video of our first experience in a severe thunderstorm in our camper and shared it. Im a cancer survivor, I think I know a little about survival.
@@Marcs-Adventures did u see the homeless. There survivors. Not all of them are drug or liquor addicts. But they dont have a expansive vehicle or camper. And claim there surviving. That word is overused by vanlifers or 1st amendment auditors using theword tyrant. Being a cancer survivor is not even in the same content of what im saying. Its just when people use that word and they have the stuff u have thats not surviving thats choice. Also if you can't deal with criticism then maybe you shouldn't be on TH-cam.
Of course the word "survivor" is in the same category. I spent a year battling to SURVIVE, to LIVE, to still be HERE. I think you need to reflect on the use of words in the English language. If people didn't use ENGAGING adjectives, nouns and verbs to describe events and situations - books, movies and the such would be flat out boring. Your new title for our video? "We sat in a camper while it rained outside." Not the same effect right? Lot's of people struggle to survive in this world. I guess you don't like it when someone says, "I am just trying to SURVIVE on this meager wage I am making in this horrible economy". Or perhaps when someone says, "WOW, I can't believe I survived that roller coaster. I thought I was going to passout!".

Well, not sure what you mean but we used to tent camp too. My wife and I have worked very hard our entire lives to be able to enjoy things like this. It didn't just drop out of the sky. Have a wonderful day!
I'd recommend a 9mm over that thing. Maybe carry both.
