Diagnosed ADHD here and have also endured abuse like this. A lot of studies show that ADHD can actually be caused by abuse and chaotic environments. I personally think I was already experiencing ADHD symptoms then, but often predators will seek out children like this . I was very hyperactive and constantly being told I was stupid and I very much wanted to be perceived as smart and obedient . Sadly, a lot of conservative and Republican homes absolutely set their children up to be victims of this.

Labeling anyone older than 4 years old this certainly has underlying connotations.
One time my dad said he still thinks of me as his baby girl, but he obviously meant that sometimes he looks at me and still sees the toddler. This is the one and only time I've ever heard him use that term, and it was a touching moment because clearly he was reminiscing about his actual baby when he said it.
I feel like step parents using that term who were not there for their children's actual baby years is weird af and totally suspicious. 🤢

I think the most insulting part of this whole thing is him “apologizing” to his stepdaughter and saying, “i don’t really know what that was all about,” as if what he did was uncontrollable, like flying off the handle in a rage. After molesting a CHILD. I cannot fathom what that does to a kid’s brain. This is going to stick with her for the rest of her life, though she has a supportive mother on her side and the fact that she spoke up about it shows that she’s a brave kid. I hope she can heal from this and never has to think about him again. That pig on the other hand can rot.

It’s incredible that she had a therapist and felt safe enough to tell her mom and her therapist. I was groped between the ages of 13 and 14 by someone close to me, but I was too afraid of ripping apart family relationships. I’ve just stopped having nightmares a few months ago (after recent extensive therapy), and I’m friggin 28. I didn’t say a word to anyone until once in college, and then I sealed shut for several more years. Mind you, I’ve had multiple therapists and only told one and mental hospital staff. Now everybody knows, and I’ve mended my relationship with that person who probably didn’t realize I still live with it everyday. I’d ask them to visit and look forward to it, but I still had nightmares before they came over for years

Also for 'why does he think he can talk his way out of it?' Dude you have no idea how many times this due HAS talked himself out of shit. I once worked with a serial predator. It took everything in me to report him to 'the appropriate people' to say that the creep was sexually harassing young men in the congregation who were half his age. Turns out most of the time the people who are supposed to hold people accountable get very uncomfortable and will let them off. Turns out the appropriate people were actually the local paper because that's what it finally took to get the guy fired from a church that literally had a daycare in the basement. The whole time I kept telling myself, at least he's only targetted adults. But the longer things went on the more I heard stories about how there'd been teenagers who'd volunteered at the church who stopped coming after he pursued 'special relationships' with them.

And kinda as a result I ended up not being able to Christian anymore. (It's hard to keep believing in God when over and over you keep seeing stuff that suggests that there is no redemptive work of the holy spirit since the worst people you know are the ones in charge of church stuff.) But years later, and after discovering a few things (a technique called brain spotting and magic mushrooms) I'm doing a lot better.

I just watched a video by Psychology with Dr. Ana and she introduced me to the concept of reaction formation. Basically to compensate for their negative thoughts/behaviors people strongly portray the opposite. The context was Justin Baldoni and his pro women activist facade and would help explain why a lot of these offenders are so big on cracking down on offenders. It's a cover and they don't always realize they're overcompensating

That girl is unbelievably brave for coming forward, and I'm saying that knowing just how hard it is. I hope there isn't any animosity between her and her siblings when she gets older. They seem too young to really get what's happening and it might not even seem real to them. There were way too many people in chat at the end trying to pin blame on the mother. Disappointing.

    • @coda3223
      @coda3223 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

It might be because for those who survive this sort of thing and do the work in therapy, there's a realization that the "safer" parent was negligent if not downright complicit.
My mother associates with a *convicted* pedophile and "forbade" me from telling anyone else about his prior conviction because he was "falsely accused" even though she invites him to family holidays with her 10+ grand children (and has not told their parents). I told the people I invited and kept an eye on all the kids - but that's the sort of negligent behavior that's on the mild end of these sorts of situations. Many moms straight up deny and defend the abuse, go to great lengths to hide it, blame their kid, or straight up assist the abuser... just look at the comments on this video. It's not unheard of.
I've heard stories from adult women of many ages who minimize their experiences of childhood sexual abuse/harassment "because he didn't touch me or anything" (Louis CK style abuse) or "it was just words" (catcalling) or "it's not like he raped me" (molestation). We're taught to minimize this type of abuse when it happens to us, and when it happens to others close to us.
It's good to see that this time, this mom took her kid's claim seriously... but depending on how long it's been happening - how many times did she ignore the signs, look the other way, or dismiss her kid's attempts to seek safety from her? How many red flags did she ignore (especially if there were calls re: domestic violence months prior that someone else mentioned here in the comments, or, idk the fact that he's a Trump supporter is a pretty big red flag)?
It's not about shifting blame from the pdf file to the nearest woman, it's about recognizing that people are taught to perpetrate, tolerate, and facilitate these horrific behaviors via patriarchy... that there are MANY accountable parties when something like this happens.... so that we can actually make enough changes to society to prevent it from continuing to happen.
Catching 1 pdf file doesn't do shit in the grand scheme of things. The kid has already been traumatized. Prevention is key and the only way to prevent it is a thorough examination of cultural and environmental antecedents and related accountable parties.

@@thelegendoflivz😅 it is not a pleasant way to go. It is still considered lethal without the drop, but much, much more likely to botch do to neck strength. This eventually lead to the development of the standard drop and the long drop.
:The standard drop involves a drop of between 4 and 6 feet (1.2-1.8 m) and came into use from 1866, when the scientific details were published by Irish doctor Samuel Houghton. Its use rapidly spread to English-speaking countries and those with judicial systems of English origin.
It was considered a humane improvement on the short drop because it was intended to be enough to break the person's neck, causing immediate unconsciousness and rapid brain death.
This method was used to execute condemned Nazis under United States jurisdiction after the Nuremberg Trials, including Joachim von Ribbentrop and Ernst Kaltenbrunner.
In the execution of Ribbentrop, historian Giles MacDonogh records that: "The hangman botched the execution and the rope throttled the former foreign minister for 20 minutes before he expired.
There's a reason it was discontinued, it's both risky in effectiveness and unpleasant. A bad way to go, guillotine was more humane. My argument to be clear isn't for people to get it right, but rather even if you get it right it's not a good way.
