My Dad is a CHP Officer. He responds to A LOT of fatal collisions. He bought this SUV not because of the status symbol because we are a very humble family, he bought it because he’s been amazed over and over again how many people driving X5’s walk away from MANY major collisions without major injuries. With so many crazy drivers in California we feel safer on the road with this SUV.

I hated the lane assist on my X5 also, one thing worth mentioning is that you can turn that option off as I did. I kept the lane warning which makes the steering wheel vibrate but the lane assist had to go!

There is a P button for park since if you push the shifter forward you go into reverse and pull the shifter rearward you go into drive. Most cars forward is park and all the other functions including reverse and forward are by pulling the shifter rearward. BUT if you are in drive and press the power button the car automatically goes into park. So you really dont need the P button unless you want to put the car in park but leave the engine running. The tailgate can be selected by a menu to open both halves or just the top half by pressing the tailgate open button. Leather is optional because some people dont want to sit on dead animals skin. I have leather in mine. The steering correction intervention effect is variable (mild, med, more severe).

Sadly as a new X5 40i 2019 owner I have to tell that not everything is perfect with this car. I also watch a lot of reviews, get in love with the car, and decide to ask for mine with the offroad package, rear steering, and the msport brakes for better handling; and not talking about that the seller didn't take note that I wanted pallets at the steering wheel, and that the contract said four zone AC and came with just two zones, the important problems come in a lot of ways.
The worst is an strange deceleration with DSC light activation in some bumpy turns at low speed with some trembling and shaking some times, that the dealer and BMW Group itself in letters to me insist that this activation is a normal behavior of the G05 X5, even after I take it for an external diagnostic which report errors CD990B CD990E for front and back axel that correspond to DSC and DME and that maybe this could be the cause; also I had to take the car to repair the voice assistant that give some problems and stop to work in three occasions, and also have been having some external lighting fails to automatically turn off when setting in auto, also some times the system miss the USB connection to the USB stick attached and had to be reinserted to be read again, I had some videos of all that happening and I are starting to share it in a BMW user blog looking for help, imagine that. Also other things happens like really hot air coming out from the AC that was set at 19.5°C and strange sensation of the suspension a couple of times and other thinks but that could not be recorded for obvious reasons. Also there were some mild quality control problems like a mild imperfection in the drives leather sit that could be not found in any other part of the car or any other BMW we own including a G01 and an E70, yes we are buyers of the brand, and that they categorically refuse to fix it with a replacement alleging that this could not be control and could happen in the replacement also, I had the letter with this answer wrote at the mailbox, also the center consol sometimes take three or four tries to open and after that works normal, and also they had to correct the inclination of the gas cap because came a little tilt and verbally said that was common, also the right kidney of the grill was something loose and hat to be tight, and a leftover steering wheel seam thread had to be removed.
Don't take it wrong, I really like the concept of the G05 X5, I belive it is a perfect balanced vehicle, specially when you could get any configuration package, now and not do sure, and when driving the engine and the car transmission feels grate, but when you get out of the local representative of Costco and the car loose acceleration, and no other cars do that, this really feels lousy, the Kirkland nuts and the chocolateis not enough to comfort you, and the worst is not to have this problem, is that the dealer and specially BMW Group itself (I wrote to them), they tell that this is normal and aren't going to fix it, that this is the new normality for then, that this is the ultimate driving machine underperformance; that is more disappointing because you have been left alone with a problem you can not fix. If That would really be the new standard for then they should have tell me that the car would occasionally behave that way so it would be my decision to buy it or not.
Excuse me for venting, but the situation is frustrating.

I just bought the X5 yesterday (upgrade from the '18 X3). It drives incredibly smooth & has a ton of power. Voice controlled temperature controls & ambient lighting were a nice surprise. I agree 100% on the intrusive lane assist, I chose to turn that option off & just keep the warning feature. The only true way to feel the sport mode is to open it up a bit on 355. Just an FYI, the tailgate has a setting that allows both top & bottom to open which I prefer. Keep the awesome review videos coming neighbor!

So I 'm getting a 2021 bmw X3 x40I in a few months. Along with fewer things that come standard on this car I went with the premium package @ $7,314.00 USD because the other two packages offer less than the premium option.
So here is my things I have noticed during my purchase.
    1. As you stated in the video some of the things that used to come standard with the vehicle have now become an additional charge.
    2. Glad the finally added android app because not everyone uses apple devices.
    3. Disappointed those shade screens don't come standard, the key fob I don't like the design it was fine the way it was before.
    4. Since it will be at least three months til I take delivery of my vehicle you would think for the money being spent on this car they would at least give me a free loaner car until mines arrive nope the salesman said we have loaners cars starting at 500 usd per months, 1500 dollars ( in which I don't get back) on top of what I have paid for the car is just outrageous. What they should offer to new car buyers is a loaner car either free or at a reduced rate since you are spending a lot of money already for a new vehicle.

I purchased the 2021 X5. The model I bought has the Driver's Assistance Pro Pkge, Luxury Seating Pkge 2, Parking Assist Pkge and Premium Pkge. I took possession Oct 16th so I've been driving it for one month. There is a major flaw in one of the safety features which has me really mad. The cross traffic alert is almost non-existent. My last car was a Hyundai Azera and my wife drives a Hyundai Tucson. The cross traffic alert in those cars would provide a tone and an indication on the display showing the direction of the coming vehicle before it was close. They would alert me while I was still on my driveway or if at the store, as soon as I put the car in reverse. The BMW doesn't alert me at all. Supposedly it will alert if an accident is imminent but otherwise there is no warning. I took it back to the dealership and was told that the system is working as intended. Considering there are 100's of choices in the menus, there is only an on/off for this feature and no choice as to sensitivity or nearness. While BMW doesn't consider this a flaw, I certainly do and am totally flummoxed why a $71,000.00 car could be bested by cars costing half as much over such an important safety feature. It is a nice car to drive as pointed out by the reviewer but unless this feature can be improved, I will remain disappointed. Also the run flat tires are not as comfortable as other tire choices. The car comes without a spare, inflator or jack so if you get a flat, you drive on the run flat, then throw it away and spend $$ for a new run flat tire.

BMW X5 is a expensive vehicle. The basic vehicle is 60k with only a few options, with that price you expect you should have more options but since this a BMW X5 you paying for the name back by the performance of the vehicle. Top BMW X5 will run you over 100K easy.

ONLY 1 USB port and mostly 12V. What year is this? BMW wanna cream you for all the options but even then you can't get the 2020 packages. 4/10

Porsche Cayenne and GLE drive is much better. Like the engine better than the merc though. Just got a 2021 loaner after bringing in Porsche for service. Although I like the infotainment it feels like a toy on the road while the gle and especially the Porsche Cayenne feel like a tank compared to this. Steering on 2021 x5 feels more like a lexus and less like a german vehicle in 2021. Not as much road feel as in the past. Also you do get sunshades but they do not attach very well. They should also be automatic.

I mean if we are talking about standard... is BMW a “standard” car? If you want it buy it .... if you can’t afford the upkeep or extras get a Honda ... simple

An Acura or a Lexus would make more sense...esp since its a depreciating thing.

Test drive them all and you'll see why true drivers choose the BMW despite depreciation/reliability etc.
If you care more about value over the driveability, look elsewhere.
