@@oringomakenabasenjitrainin6407 She's almost 2 years old, so she surprises me every day! Just not always in good ways. 😂

Just found you! Love this channel ❤️
Just adopted a "unknown" mix breed puppy.... except for her straight tail, she looks like Basinji mix. Your videos are so helpful no matter what breed. The daily schedule video has helped me set a schedule but, after raising huskies for years, and always on lead unless in fenced areas, I really want to be able to have some off leash walks with this pup...really enjoy your leash training and focus videos so much❤.

hello, thank you so much for your kind feedback 😊 with basenji offleash walks my experience is that it might work with consistent training and lots if rewards BUT it requires so much effort and attention from the owner during the walk that its not feasible to do for long walks - you just cannot relax and enjoy the walk yourself! when I take my dogs offleash, I make sure that I keep them engaged by talking to them, rewarding with food frequently for pretty much every time they look at me, scanning the environment for any risks and trying to preempt the distractions, never taking my eyes off the dog and tracking what they are doing, analysing and scanning their body language to understand whats on their mind and how likely is that they will switch off the attention from me... honestly, its so much work that I only do it for 15-20min, unless its a pretty safe environment like a secluded beach, remote open space rural area far from roads and not much wildlife, but even then I cannot fully relax and make sure I control my dogs. So, even if you achieve a good recall with your basenji, but most importantly work out their habit to stay close to you on offleash walks, it does not necessarily mean you will really enjoy your walks 😄

I’ve read that rat terriers, an intentionally created American breed, have some basenji in their background. Some of them look very basenji-like. :-)

    Genius! I love your channel!
I wonder if you give consultations or maybe remote help with trainings?
I would really love to teach my basenji at least 10% of you have taught yours :)

    Excellent tip. I am
Having trouble bringing Charlie back from barrier frustration (unable to meet other dogs walking by) on our walks, I might try your method getting his attention on me quickly instead of other dogs😀 the hard part is I am not as animated as you 😅

thank you! believe it or not, but group dog training classes help a lot with teaching the dog to be calm/ignore other dogs. They get through a period of frustration and then learn to concentrate on the owner in the presence of other dogs. this is difficult to simulate just on walks as dogs quickly pass by, it is not as controlled as a group class setting. hope your boy gets better! 😃
