I agree with others it's nice to hear someone of your caliber struggling as well/might be helpful for us to see some more of those "mistakes" in videos. I hate the hairpin. It's the ultimate Tilke design. "Extend the straight and put a hairpin. That'll force overtakes." Deep Forest has always been my favorite track in GT games, because it's just fun to drive and I always loved the final curve. Throwing your car full throttle into the banked left-hander always felt so good.
You mentioned the physics of the corner, something definitely broken in the middle of the corner in the reverse layout. Somehow there is seemingly no grip at all in the middle of the corner and it's really easy to lose the back end. Really feels like there's a patch of ice there. Thought it was me, but I drove this race a couple of times yesterday and saw others struggle in exactly the same way. Other than that I really like the reverse layout, the whole middle section is awesome. The hairpin and the high speed section before it is a real treat too
I don't play gt that much but it looks like the camber drops off drastically about a car length off the apex which is probably why he understeers if he goes wide and oversteers when he gets it in that groove. Just have to be conscious in your prediction of what line you are taking and adjust yourself accordingly beforehand.
Firstly, awesome battle - it was like a chess game, well done! Secondly, I never played the original layout of this circuit, but I think this corner and the track in general is okay. I think the main problem with the hairpin (I struggle with it as well) is the fact that in order to hit the apex you need to go a little downhill, as a result the rear becomes too light which results in oversteer. I guess we could be able to mitigate this to some extend if we were still able to use break balance...
Literally just got a cheap rig setup this week and getting back into gran turismo - it was nice to see this track and commentary since I’ve been battling that corner all week haha. Love your content brother and hope to see you guys online!
Wow, I stumbled upon your race videos by chance and I have to say, you've got me hooked! Your skill and passion for cars really shine through in your content. You're making me more interested in cars than I ever thought possible. Keep up the great work and I can't wait to see more!
I thought the worst turn was the downhill chicane on Laguna Seca, but when you pointed this one out, it brought back nightmares of trying to do the license tests. You're right... I'm not sure what it is about that turn, but it just feels weird. Maybe because it looks wider than it is, so most people tend to try to keep a more shallow turn to keep speed. It also looks like it dips and changes your grip a little in the middle of the turn.
An oddball turn to be sure, but maybe it's bit like the Suzuka hairpin where if you take a wider, longer line instead of hitting the apex, you can carry a bit more speed through the turn and get a better run on exit.
It was entertaining! One quick tip, looking at the track and your driving [it], felt clear that this race is about gas pedal control, as well as strict braking. I think the main issue you have with that corner is that you cant quite control the gas pedal efficiently. On the times you did poorly were mostly shaky, but the ones you did better at (the latter ones) is much more steady and gradual (which gives you good turning and a nice exit. My suggestion is that you try harden your gas pedal, say.. 10/15%, by doing that you will have better control of the pedal and put it right where you want it at all times. ALSO IMPORTANT NOTE: if you go this route expect to perform poorly for a few days, your head needs time adjusting to the new feeling of a harder pedal and find again the points you had.

6:32 I feel like the original spirit of the circuit is still here with this new corner. If Deep Forest was a real life circuit, it would been possible that the owners thought about upgrading the track by making a new corner.
I totally agree super gt. I don't understand that corner there's just something about it that's not right I don't know what it is I don't know where it's kind of up and down hill that throws us off or what but yeah but there's something about it for sure. Love your channel man as always
It's sad that the track works better in reverse than it does forward. PD clearly doesn't play their own tracks when they make them. This track in previous games use to have 3 passing zones: turn 1, the final turn, and the 90-degree corner at the end of the back straight that they replaced with the hairpin. As a result of the hairpin they elemented passing at the end of the back straight, because it's too tight to race each other in, elementated passing in the final corner because it's no longer a braking zone, and eliminated passing in turn 1 because you can't follow anyone close enough out of the hairpin to make a pass in turn 1. I don't even want to ask what PD was thinking because they clearly weren't thinking at all.
Getting used to the new layout was a bit tricky, but after driving on it with different cars I love the new layout, it’s especially satisfying to get every apex right through the forest parts of the track halfway through the lap.
I'm currently mixed on that tight corner, i like it but at the same time it can be really annoying if you mess it up, especially in the reverse way for me.
The worst part is that this new version of Deep Forest isn't really that bad, but this ONE last corner is just so fucking bad that it just ruins the rest of the track! So much that I make a point of avoiding racing on it altogether, even on the reverse layout where the corner isnt as cancerous to deal with. And I don't even understand why this corner is even there to begin with.
Hey Super GT! Thanks for the advice a little while ago. Since then I've been making rapid progress and am a little more comfortable racing online. So thank you, I'm happy to have had your help.
I kinda dig the hairpin, it's real difficult in reverse but I feel like I got good at it when it showed on launch. Love the middle sector of this track with the ford GT, the one that's red/blue default livery. Like you said, when you get those curves right it's really satisfying
i could be very wrong. but on a classic track like this. i feel the change well, changes the difficulty floor/ceiling. it allows more room for new and older generation to clash. its like that one chicane at spa. it separates the boys from the men to easily. you can tell who "knows what they are doing" and that more or less isnt a fun race.
One of my only two ever daily race first places was on this daily yesterday. I was stoked. (Only c class, but beat a few B clssses). It was one of those rare clean races. Its the little battles though midfield where this game shines. You can have such epic moments - even in the last places. GT7 VR is really a dream come true for an old Atari Pong player.
the way you do that turn is not by following a gradual apex. instead, you come in to the turn fast, brake hard, and treat the turn like a V instead of like a U. yes it means you will reach a lower speed than if you had followed an apex, but it also means youre out of the turning process, faster. its why some of the drivers were seemingly stopping on the apex of that turn.
This hairpin is best navigate on the back tires, not the front. You can't hit it because in reverse it's slightly downhill and you're using the brakes to set your line, keeping the weight and balance over the front tires. This is why you understreer on exit (and oversteer if you hit the curb, because it throws the back around with the sudden balance change). You need to come off the brake on the outside line and turn into it with the weight as balanced as possible. As soon as the left rear is rotated you can get back into the throttle and aim for the oustside exit. Slow in, fast out on this hairpin. Fast in, slow out.
With that tight of a hairpin, you can only either run the inside to save distance, or take a late line, almost a u turn and just drag race through the apex and carry as much speed as you can into the straight, kinda like what Max Power did to pass you the first time
In anticlockwise layout, you really need to pull right onto the kerb and turn as tight as possible, to make it work. I've not done it in a GT3 car yet though and expect it to be harder
Yeah nice. Quality content. Close racing is always lore entertaining 👍🏼 I found the Mercedes to work well on both tyres and whilst not the fastest probably the most consistent 👍🏼👍🏼
I think it has to do with it being downhill directly after a high speed left turn. The inertia of your car is going in the opposite direction of the hairpin and since you take that previous corner on a mildly bumpy downhill section, you have inconsistent amounts of traction in the braking zone for the hairpin as well meaning that the effectiveness of your braking leading up to it will be inconsistent as well with even minor changes in input. edit: after watching a little bit more it felt really familiar, it actually reminds me a lot of corners 7 and 8 on the bahrain circuit which gives me a headache in f1 2022 personally, really similar set up and elevation change
If that wasn't sportsmanship from gotmaxpower in the last corner by throwing the car into a drift just to avoid contact then I don't know what is. Outstanding race!
All corners are good! I used to have pikes peak and the nordshliefe memorized simultaneously. I haven't seen pikes peak in so long that I forgot most of it, but the nordshliefe is burned into brain forever.
@supergt some wheels (including yours I think) don't get the low curb rumble like in gt sport as it's now assigned to haptic engines. Please bring this up in a video as Polyphony left many of us in the dust.
The hairpin is much easier when running in the normal direction. I brake late, make sure i'm in line to hit the bank of the turn at about 45mph or so. as soon as your back tires hit the bottom of the bank area you can accelerate thru.
You need to brake a bit softer and for longer on this turn, and more slowly steer into it until it's about level. I think that's what's getting the job done, consistent steering.
Great video as always. I'm no Super GT, but had the same experience trying to record a good Daily C race. Finally got a solid result today. QUESTION: do you record your replay footage with ray tracing or performance? Performance mode gives me stutters :\
The hairpin is so tight that it pushes the grip to its limit and with such elevation changes as it has, it can easily throw the car off balance. Especially the slightly sharper dip on the inside can throw your rear off quite easily. I absolutely hated it at first but I've kind of grown to like it after learning to manage it better. The penalty lines on the exit are really frustrating though.
that is such a weird corner! youre a brilliant driver so i dont know if this is even good advice, but maybe consider getting the car rotated quickly and early as possible so you are facing the straight quicker and you can boot it in a straightline. another way was a late v (slow in fast out) and out the corner to carry more speed onto the straight.
Not sure anyone noticed, but there is a slight elevation change right at the apex of that hairpin. It is a small drop on the regular circuit...for the reverse it is a slight bump. Maybe that's why it feels so weird?
His mistake wasn’t applying full power and lighting up the rear. He went wide before the entry to try and carry more speed through the corner to pass you but he applied too much brake and turn in and that sudden weight transfer to the front left kicked out the rear, which he beautifully saved but it ultimately costed him the race.
I do think the new hairpin makes deep forest a more robust and well rounded circuit, but I still miss the old version of the circuit to be honest. I really wish that PD had given us the option to do the tracks in both layouts with these redesigns. You could keep the new "competitive" layout in the game for close racing, and still add in the old configuration for old fans who want to drive the track the way it used to be, and it wouldn't take much extra effort at all. It really would only involve redoing a corner or two on each track. Similar to how Barcelona got the no chicane layout added later.
I've pretty much given up on GT7, but yeah, that hairpin is an affront against humanity. Much more so when I loved that last part of Deep Forest in the old games.
Rember how GT6 had the 80s Brands Hatch and whatnot? They could bring back the old Deep Forest and others as throwback tracks. That doesn't mean they have to use them in sport mode, or made for sport mode. The only thing is that Grand Valley has little hope to see something like that happen, and will probably bring down the chances of the others having it done to them.
In Porsche I always have oversteer at the exit. Same can be seen when you bring Porsche 2:20. I guess thats because of some strange elevation difference in the corner, like inside is lower than outside
It’s the fast sweeping kinks just before, that do me in. They make me think I can go faster than I actually can. The corner itself, why, that’s like strawberry jam to top it off.
Watching you makes me a better driver. Also not sure if you already have it or are interested but PSVR2 is magic with this game and a wheel. I find myself driving better in VR because I have a better sense of speed and where other drivers are around me.
To me, the hairpin is sort of replicating an multiple surface deflections which prevents each tire from being plant simultaneously, and especially at an extreme corner, the LSD gets it all kinds of wrong. Atleast thats what I picture in real life.
I think it's a rough corner just because of the fact that there's very little to no bankment along the stretch, In other tracks like Yas Marina or even Suzuka in some instances the sharpest hairpins similar to this one have quite a bit of embankment.

2:17 is the best way to take the corner
Was also practicing the whole week to get a hold of that friggin first corner, but i think the track is fun and challenging - i like it :)
The hairpin of doom 😂. Any race with Max is worth the watch 👊🏻
Not sure anyone noticed, but there is a slight elevation change right at the apex of that hairpin. It is a small drop on the regular circuit...for the reverse it is a slight bump. Maybe that's why it feels so weird?
0:34-0:38 “titanic would turn quicker” 😂
The hairpin is o.k. in the normal direction. Absolutely the Devil's work in reverse.
I LOVE the GR3 Suzuki. It's actually a top 5 on this game for me. So easy to control and very quick.
This corner is sooooo damn tough
In Porsche I always have oversteer at the exit. Same can be seen when you bring Porsche 2:20. I guess thats because of some strange elevation difference in the corner, like inside is lower than outside
Portugal coastguard: Brace yo'selfs , the brits are coming !
I'm pretty sure there was a hairpin very similar to this way back in the first GT on PS1, and it took me an AGE to lear to drive it.
I could watch you commentate on gt7 races all day. So good.
I feel like you've gone through the whole ascending downhills confusion before :D
It’s the fast sweeping kinks just before, that do me in. They make me think I can go faster than I actually can. The corner itself, why, that’s like strawberry jam to top it off.
The inclusion of on-course cameras always elevate racing videos 👍
Super gt ft gotmaxpower videos will always provide us great race
Wow you should make a video cut with the GOTMAXPOWER fight at the end, because it's the best part of the video.
