In this episode we set out via Chinese bullet train (aka 高铁, or gāotiě) and head for Jilin City.
Jilin City is (unsurprisingly) in the province of the same name, Jilin Province. In Mandarin it's written as 吉林.
To be honest, I arrived in Jilin with rather low expectations. Jilin City isn't a place that you often hear people talk about, particularly as a day trip/travel destination. I have to admit, this was one of those times where I turned out to be pleasantly surprised.
One of the best features of Jilin City is that the wide and beautiful Songhua River (松花江) runs right through the city and out in the distance you can see mountains as well.
In this video we take to the streets and see what all Jilin has to offer. Whether it's the majestic Songhua River or the magnificent Jilin Catholic Church, or even the Jilin Meteorite Museum (that holds the world's heaviest meteorite), I think you'll be just as pleasantly surprised as I was!

How do you vet the food? I think eating out would be my biggest concern in China.

Good question. After you've been here a while you sorta stop worrying about the food. If a place looks decent (and sometimes even if it doesn't) you just give it a shot. Every once in a while though... it'll get ya! Food sickness is something we're all very familiar with, for those of us living in China.

I have been here many times. Always like to take long walks. Do be cautious with car drivers there. No courtesy at all.
