    I forgot to add that you should use or fabricate a backer plate to try and strengthen your sliders connection to the unibody. We've used them on aftermarket steel bumpers when adding shackle mounts for extra recovery points used for multi-line/snatched block pulls. Just something to think about when mounting sliders or any structural component to your vehicle. Do it right the first time because it will cost you 4x more to do it a second properly. I understand they are made to be affordable but they should also be effective...of course if they are merely for show the setup is very sound.
    They look good. If you want really heavy duty well made and we'll prices sliders try stubbs welding. My 4runners sliders were under $400 shipped and are stronger than the trucks frame. they are weld on only though. it's expensive to have a welding shop put them on if you don't know how weld or dont have a welder. welding is a good skills to have if your into hitting leaving the pavement with your 4x4.

    Can't wait to buy these! Quick question...I plan on armoring the underside with skid plates (Tank, TC, engine/oil pan). Will these get in the way of doing this? Doesn't most armor tie into the frame rails? Maybe a noob question...

      I know my buddies long arm kit got in the way of him adding sliders...but I don't have that problem

    Are the rocker panels structurally important? My passenger side panel is almost completely rotted away, only the top and a little bit of the front still remains. I'm saving some cash to replace them, and I would do it myself but I don't own a welder nor do I know how to weld. I just want to know if I should rush to fix them or if I can wait a bit to fix them.

    So if you have frame stiffeners would the self tapping bolt be long enough?

    • @bleepinjeep
      @bleepinjeep  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      probably not going to work on 1/4" steel

  • @NytefogNJ
    @NytefogNJ 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    I would have had to add another support in the center to strengthen the sliders....I definitely don't trust only two supports with 4 bolts holding them the the jeep...they could cause more damage to your jeep then without them...same goes for brush guards.

  • @5thgearPINNEDnWHOOPS
    @5thgearPINNEDnWHOOPS 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    you should have made a point to keep the bolt level when installing self tapping.

  • @NytefogNJ
    @NytefogNJ 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    No welding?? I wouldn't trust those on the trail bolted on with those self tapers. id at least put a few take welds any where I could. they make nice looking running boards though.
    I guess jeeps aren't that heavy. I though jeeps had body on frame.?

      If you have to drill ANYTHING to install something as basic as sliders, you bought the wrong vehicle to begin with. Offroad capable vehicles come with the holes for skid plate armor and sliders already built into the frame as well as the nuts welded into those holes so you just bolt these things right on.

    • @lpmresearch866
      @lpmresearch866 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      PatrickNJ. welding is stronger vs DIY BOLT ON SLIDER. You must know how to weld well, or pay for a professional welder to do it.
      Could a great excuse to buy MIG or TIG welder. Just got a miller syncrowave wave 210 inverter TIG.

    can the xj unibody frame take that abuse?

    • @dre04mach
      @dre04mach 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nope... that "frame" is about as thick as a coke can too... That's why everyone welds them on XJs...

    • @dembrowi_n_c.5111
      @dembrowi_n_c.5111 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      its about 100 times thicker than a coke can but either way.

    • @dre04mach
      @dre04mach 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've had to drill through it... it's crap. If you're gonna do that, frame stifeners on the other side would be a good idea...

    • @joe8388
      @joe8388 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Dominic Barile they suck, easy for install for a location like this, but I wouldn't trust em to hold that on with abuse

    • @donaldfafard
      @donaldfafard 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +joe8388 self tapping screws work phenomenally.
      the drill bit at the tip is exactly the size of hole necessary for the following threads to grip. much easier most of the time compared to drilling a hole then switching over to a wrench or nut driver to put in the screws. use them whenever you can, the extra cost is minimal and the convenience is astronomical.
