what kind of strings is good for knotting the mala? I tried using S Lon but they were too thick for a 6mm bead, so I could only use 1 string. I prefer to use 2 strings to go through each bead.

I am in awe of your ability to tie such short pieces of thread. What a beautiful mala. The maker made an really nice choice of beads. Did you use a guru bead, or just thread straight down through a normal bead? I often do the latter because the guru bead is so hard for me to thread.
    What a nice gentleman. :)

I string my tassel first, bring the 2 pieces of cording through the jump ring, knot then put my guru on.

We do not have silk tassels on our Buddhist prayer beads.
We wear them all time so tassels are impracticable. We also do not have a complete circle then add a tassel. Instead it starts with the guru bead and ends with the guru bead
Mala may have extra beads hanging from the stringing material coming out the guru/mother bead or middle bead. These may be decorative elements, especially when unable to move along the cord because knots hold them in place. They may or may not have religious symbolism (for example, three beads representing the Buddhist Triple Gem of Buddha, Dharma and Sangha) but are not used for counting recitations in any way
    Still not tassel.
Once you finish stringing and knotting the 108 beads, the 2 ends of the mala are knotted together but the ends are not cut off but flow through a guru bead (a larger 3 hole bead that holds both sides of the threaded necklace it’s a respect to your guru or your teacher/s or the teacher within yourself ,as in we do not cross it when counting our mantas instead we turn it around then count again), if cannot afford a guru bead as they are expensive (anything up to £15 fir the 2 bead guru set) then a larger 3 holed bead and a smaller 2 holed bead as the post
Then at the ends of the stringing material can be intricately knotted or they can have 3 beads each side to match the mala beads thus us like a tassel but
    NO silk TASSEL
    Do not wear as jewellery
If around the neck it has to be hidden.
The wrist it has to be covered by sleeve
It’s worn on the right and counted with the left hand
Do not wear in the toilet, sex, put on ground •ᵉᵗ.ͨ
If you put a silk tassel on and not a knotted or bead ending then it’s mala style but not mala
