  • Imagine going back in time only to realise that WhatsApp has been swapped by letters, and now you’ve got to wait in a long queue just to speak with someone for a few minutes! In hindsight, it may be a frustrating experience for us youngsters since we are so used to being connected with the world 24/7, thanks to the dot com world! In the 6th episode of What The Hell Navya Season 2, I, Navya Naveli Nanda, strike up a conversation with my Gen X mom, Shweta Bachchan Nanda and boomer nani, Jaya Bachchan, on how different the world was for them, without the convenience of the internet.
Stay tuned till the end as we talk about the digital world, and whether it is a development for the better or worse, through the lens of women belonging to different generations. And before you leave, don’t forget to hit the subscribe button and the bell icon, so that you are the first person to know of all the latest updates!

Mrs Jaya Bachchan is absolutely correct & realistic - half the people have anxiety attacks of "FOMO" across generations, predominantly seen among Gen Z.. One has to monitor the time spent on any particular app.. as screentime according to a survey and even Psychology proved isn't Healthy for the Brain.. while it boosts euphoria in one's brain.. it is so short-lived.. Having a Realistic as well as Holistic approach to Internet helps a great great deal - Navya & Shweta

Totally agree with Jayaji about her comment regarding anxiety and the internet/social media usage. I am an academic at the university of London and there is a lot of research linking social media usage to anxiety and depression amongst the youth! Hats off to Mrs Jaya Bacchan....she is extremely clued in. She is very wise, perceptive and speaks her mind and above all uses common sense which is increasingly uncommon.

Hello from the bay area California. Love this! I am a huge fan of Shweta! She has raised both her kids extremely well! They are open but very very respectful. Huge kudos to Shweta for such rich upbringing. I dont think Shweta is disrespectul to her mom at all (per some comments). This is exactly how mom-daughter relationships are and its so refreshing to see something real (versus scripted) here. The beauty of this podcast is that its "real". Please dont change it. Kudos to all of you for the amazing work!! Congrats! Would be great to see Abhishek on the show as a guest. thanks again!

Shweta is intelligent, opinionated & well-read. There's nothing wrong with the pride she carries which others are confused with arrogance. I don't know why a clever opinionated lady comes across as arrogant. She is lovely, look at the way she respects her mom & is instantly sorry when she knows her mom didn't like something at this age too. Most of us wouldn't be this respectful towards our mom.

I am a Gen Z but I agree with Jaya ji. Anxiety was always there but people would experience it rarely. And mostly on big occasions. Now just a small text from our friends, office or family can trigger anxiety. Back in time people would experience it once in a blue moon now we experience it multiple times in a single day! Internet is the reason. We have forgotten how to take things lightly, how to enjoy life without posting it on social media. We are constantly in stress because we are constantly getting information about other people’s success. You are constantly comparing yourself with other people on the net. A 22 year old who’s in college studying about his or her dream/passion is now sad or stressed because the other 22 years old has already bought a house and a car. Internet, no doubt has given voice and platform to talented people and made daily life experience easy, but I feel if you look at it from far, it has done more damage than good.

In today’s generation young people are dependent too much on the internet and sometimes blindly believes whatever they see in the social media. But it doesn’t actually works that way in reality. That’s why they can’t handle any hardships of their lives. They start feeling depressed but just look at the old generation how much they went through their lives but at the end became successful by following parents advises and had huge respect for the older people of their families.

I like Shweta - what she is saying, she is with/without the internet, so she understood the advantages.

Jaya ji is right to "shut up Sweta and Navya"...where they are wrong. Please Jaya ji treat them like "outsider not a daughter and grand daughter" just like you want outsiders to be behave...😊

A big drawback of podcasts is that listening to each other is not enough. When someone speaks, others listen. It is convenient for both the speaker and the listener.

What I love about this is that Jaya ji and Shweta are so candid in these conversations. Despite the fact that this is going to be seen by so many people.
P.s. Everyone has their own nature and personality and I am talking beyond like and dislike. I am talking about being an authentic self.

Shweta Ji, you write well. I read your book and I believe you have a wonderful sense of imagination. You can do better than CGPT, definitely! Please bring your words to us, by means of novellas, or novels! Loved how you had painted Mrs.Mody, the young girl in the book, the Marathi lady in the book....I am sorry I forgot the names. But, you have it in you to paint beautiful stories because you have an eye for observation and knitting characters and stories around it.
